Winnsboro, TX: Weblog Entry
Good morning,
The market is open again through tomorrow evening. I know many of you have hectic weekly schedules & often forget to place your orders. The struggle is real with me too! I hate that I’ve become so dependent on a smart phone but one feature I love is being able to set multiple reminders/recurring weekly alarms. If it weren’t for those, I wouldn’t be remembering to open the market right this minute, lol! So, please remember to shop & shop local!!
Have a great week!
Siloam Springs, AR: Online Market is Open!
www.siloamsprings.locallygrown.net
It seems that spring is in the air! Has winter left or will it return – that is the question. This is the time of year when farmers begin preparing fields and garden beds for planting, taking a risk with the weather. Chicks are being raised, hogs and steers are ready to take to market. Laying hens start providing an abundance of eggs as the days grow longer. The labor of the farmer provides fresh, locally grown foods so we can feed our families.
Our winter market has been going strong but I think we’re all ready to be outside again, in the fresh air, visiting with our community.
Mark your calendars for Opening Day, Saturday, April 18th in Memorial Park by the library.
Be sure to check out all the products available – at the top of the online market page you can scroll through Featured and New items. This week there are turnip greens, and you can find cilantro and parsley under the Herbs category. Create a meal kit for breakfast or dinner – we have eggs, bread, honey, sausage, and ham steaks for breakfast. Pick up a whole chicken to roast that will make you several meals plus broth, add greens and radishes for a salad plus a loaf of artisan bread or buy some brats to grill and pair with a gourmet mustard available here from Tajour Specialty Products. There really are so many options. Don’t forget a dessert item!
Have a great week and see you Saturday!

Market News
This week our town takes a collective pause, what with pretty much all of the schools in town at all levels taking spring break. I know many of you are leaving town for the week, and I hope you have a grand time! Even though spring break is here before spring, the warming weather has our growers working overtime, and they’ve got plenty of items listed for you folks staying behind.
It also looks like it’ll be a decent week, weather-wise, at least compared to the last few weeks. That is to say, it’s only forecast to rain five days out of seven. I’m hoping to get some garden time in this week, pulling out the winter weeds and putting seeds and seedlings down in their place. I’ve had gardens large and small pretty much every year of my adult life, and this time of year I want to spend every moment out in them. My space is much smaller now than it was a few years ago, but it feels just as good with a few raised beds as when I had a full acre under cultivation.
Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!
Other Area Farmers Markets
The Athens Farmers Market has closed for the season. They’ll return in the Spring, and you can catch the news on their website. The Comer Farmers’ Market is open on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon. Check www.facebook.com/comerfm for more information. Washington, GA also has a lovely little Saturday market, running on winter hours from 1-4. You can learn all about them here: www.washingtonfarmersmkt.com. If you know of any other area markets operating, please let me know.
All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!
We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!
