2020 is coming to a close quickly. With Christmas right around the corner why not give a unique gift – a gift gard for Old 99 Farm. To order one or for more info please email [email protected]

Winter greens are hold well in the greenhouse with the colder temperatures. The sides have been closed down for winter and the row cover is keeping things even warmer.

It was a full market last week! Thanks everyone who ordered. I sold out of Health Kick Salad and I will announce when I have more. Theres plenty of delicious tender green kale, red kale, collard greens, Swiss chard, parsley, choi sum, butternut squash, acorn squash, turban squash, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, cooking onions, turnips, and more! Check the market to place your order.

We cooked an amazing pork roast here at the farm last weekend. It was tender and juicy, full of rich flavour. With warmer temperatures leaving us its time to move cooking indoors and we’ve got you covered. Whether its a pork roast, a pork hock, a cross rib beef roast or a sirloin roast it is sure to be a hit at your next family meal.

Please remember to place your order BEFORE 7am Thursday. Orders placed after this time may not be processed. Pickup times are 4pm to 6pm Thursday and Friday. Special arrangements can be made for Saturday pick up by calling or texting Nick at 519-755-0577. Have a great week everyone!

Be well,

Champaign, OH:  Tapestry

My life has been a tapestry
Of rich and royal hue
An everlasting vision
Of the ever-changing view
A wond’rous woven magic
In bits of blue and gold
A tapestry to feel and see
Impossible to hold…
(Carole King)

Good morning on this bit of a dreary Monday morning, local market lovely customers! I hope that the weekend was kind to you, and you are ready to face the week with us, and the market!

At Thursday’s pick up, as I was loading a customer’s trunk with market orders, I could hear that they were playing Carole King, and ever since, I’ve been revisiting my love of her, her music, and the lovely lyrics to this song.

Life is a tapestry for us all. If we all painted, and pieced together all of the colorful mosaics of our lives, what a rich tapestry each of us would have. Every color, every design, every thought provoking inch of our tapestries would offer such an amazing look into all of the roads we have travelled.

I feel like this market would have such a unique tapestry with all of the different customers, vendors, products, the paths that the market has taken…a lovely little local tapestry of market love.

Today is Monday, and you are really showing the market so much love! You have until tomorrow evening to get your orders in! The market will close at 8pm, tomorrow night!!

Take on the day, painting it in vivid and rich colors…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Athens Locally Grown:  ALG Market Open for December 10

Athens Locally Grown

How to contact us:
Our Website: athens.locallygrown.net
On Twitter: @athlocallygrown
On Facebook: www.facebook.com/athenslocallygrown
On Thursdays: Here’s a map.

Market News

The big ALG news this week is Doug was finally able to return home from Alaska, and Friday he brought a load of fish over to the freezer he keeps at my house. It’s just a partial first delivery, so it’s likely we’ll sell out of the current stock very quickly. He will be returning soon with more, so if you miss out on this first batch, more is on the way!

We’re still working out the details of our holiday market schedule, but right now it looks like we’ll be closed the week of Christmas and open again on the week of New Year’s. Both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve fall on Thursdays this year. I’ll let you know for certain soon, but right now that’s how things look.

It’ll be cold and dark again for order pickups on Thursday. It gets super dark out there on Tallassee, but I’ve been buying some rechargeable lights so you can more easily see us and the driveway. Each week I’ve been bringing more, and I have another shipment arriving tomorrow. Just a few weeks more, and the days will start getting longer again!

We are still getting new customers every week (and we love seeing new masked faces!) so for all of you you can find a detailed run-down of how Thursdays go on our website here: https://athens.locallygrown.net/faq#7

Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you at our brand new home on Tallassee Road!

Other Area Farmers Markets

If ALG doesn’t have everything you need, please support our growers at the other markets that are now back up and running, or at their own locations. The Comerian takes online orders for Saturday pickup at the bakery here: https://www.thecomerian.com/online-ordering. The Athens Farmers Market is holding their Saturday market once again in Bishop Park. It’s not anything like it was before, so you’ll want to read up on all the changes on their website, http://athensfarmersmarket.net. The West Broad Farmers Market is back too, holding a drive through market just like us (and using my software too, so it’ll be nice and familiar). You can join them at https://wbfm.locallygrown.net. And of course Collective Harvest is going strong over at https://www.collectiveharvestathens.com.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Champaign, OH:  Happy Sunday Evening!

Hoping that your weekend was a super one!

It was busy with a small catered event with Hippie and the Farmer, and now I am getting back in the groove of sending out your weekly love note!

Also, tonight, we welcome the addition of one of our younger vendors who has listed his woodworking!

I’ve known him since he was young, and many of you remember him as Honey Boy Honey, to his mother’s, Homecomer Traditions business! Together, they would bring her pretzels, and his honey to the area farmers’ markets, and as he has gotten older, he has become so skillful in his woodworking skills, and now, brings his talent to our market!

Following is a write up about him!

John Comer is a fifteen year old woodworker who lives near Mechanicsburg, Ohio. He began scroll sawing 7 years ago, and enjoys making puzzles, toys, word art, portraits, and just about anything else someone can imagine. He’s the youngest member of the Heart of Ohio Scroll Saw Association. He has shown his work, competed, and won awards at the Champaign County Fair, The Ohio State Fair, and The Wood Show (a national woodworking expo.) He has been selling his products for about 5 years at the Mechanicsburg, Champaign County, and Plain City Farmers markets, as well as at area gift shops. He has a passion for intricate detail, and loves to incorporate images of his interests in his work, especially history and animals. He does occasionally take on custom order requests, on an as-available basis.
