We’ve got Cheese! Check out the varieties of cheese just listed by White River creamery. We will have lots of suet cakes on the extra table this Friday for one dollar each. Feed the birds.
This Friday will be our last market in December: No market Friday, December 25th. Breaking news: We will have market the following week with pick up on Friday, January 1!
Have you tried the incredible lion’s mane mushrooms from Wye Mountain mushroom farm? Simply slice them 1/3 of an inch thick and sprinkle with Beaverfork Blend. Sauté in a little olive oil or vegetable oil turning once after about five minutes. Remove from pan and drizzle with Honey. You’ll thank me!
Garlic plants are now available from Cedar rock Ridge. Plant 5 or 10 in your garden for your family. Even if you have a very small area, you can tuck in three or four garlic plants. They like full sun and rich soil. Plant now at harvest in early June. I’m making waffles!
Be sure to SEARCH for your favorite items using the search field. For instance, type in the word “sale” or “pork” and see what pops up. We have over 500 items available now!
Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!
And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)
In accordance with the current guidelines, we will not have more than 10 people in the lobby at any time. We have four volunteers who can bring your order to your car if you prefer, just call or text 501-339-1039.

Magney Legacy Ridge Farm: CSA #40
Dear CSA-ers,
This week’s preassembled bag will contain Brussel Sprouts, Kale, Tatsoi, Beets, Power Greens, Chives/Garlic and Dill. For those of you placing custom orders, you may do so between now and Tuesday evening on the website at: http://magneyfarm.locallygrown.net/market
We have reached our last delivery of 2020! We have delivered 43 weeks of veggies this year, including bonus markets in January and February. Though this past week has brought some lovely days of bright sunshine and warm weather, but the season of winter looms just 8 days away. Though the farm remains ever full of life, the sheer lack of daylight hours brings vegetable production to near stand-still. Even the chickens experience a decline of egg-laying during the winter months, which can make numbers difficult to predict (our apologies to those of you that had egg orders refunded last week). Nevertheless, we have a solid market listed and expect to finish the season well.
Once we are through this week, we will resume main season CSA in March. It is possible, that we will have a couple “Winter Interim” markets in January/February like last year, but these are largely contingent on weather and how it affects the crops we planted in Late Fall. If you have any remaining balance on your account after this week, it will roll over to next year as always. We will be in touch regarding winter markets and next year’s CSA through facebook and email; if you have any questions you may always contact us!
Though we say it every week, we want to thank you for being a part of our CSA. Perhaps this year more than ever, the resilience of the farm has been tried by both global and personal circumstances. Despite all, we are finishing the season in a good way. We are grateful to be part of a community that is adaptable, supportive, and strong. You enable us to pursue our passion of growing and delivering healthy food. Already we are ordering seeds and planning the planting maps for the year to come. We hope you will join us, again in 2021, supporting local agriculture through the Magney Legacy Ridge Farm, and sharing in the abundant bounty of the fertile soil of West Kentucky!
Sincerely,The Magney Legacy Ridge Farm Team

Dothan, Alabama: Dec. 12, 2020 Last M@D Newsletter of 2020

ROS’S RAMBLINGS
What a Year! Nobody knew at the beginning of 2020 what a wild ride the whole world would experience but here we are – looking over our shoulder and hoping for better days ahead.
With this being the last newsletter of 2020 it just seemed appropriate to express my deep gratitude to both our vendors and customers for sticking it out this year. Any of us could have been paralyzed with fear with the first covid lockdown and just quit.
Just thinking about some of the stuff that has gone on behind the scenes I thought I’d share a bit. Some of this you will be familiar with, some maybe not. Mid March when everybody expected to die (of course I’m exaggerating, but maybe not much) we made the counter intuitive decision to stay open with some procedural adjustments.
It wasn’t very long afterwards I got wind that the State Farmer’s Market Authority was recommending procedures similar to ours – very interesting considering that they monitor our Facebook pages! About the same time Wendy (Avalon Farms) and I shared the M@D business model and our and safe pickup practices in a Zoom meeting for farmer’s market managers from other Alabama cities. Between the two of us we were able to explain both the technical and practical aspects of M@D that keep everything working. One of those managers actually visited us and got the Friday morning experience!
Thinking about it, to me the technical and procedural aspects everybody was so interested in merely provide a framework for what’s really important – serving each other. Because what makes Market at Dothan special is GOOD PEOPLE. And the longer I open & close the market, print reports, answer emails, write checks and send out newsletters every week, the more I realize that at the end of the day it’s about serving our fellow man. And each of you, in your own way whether as a customer or vendor, do your part as we serve each other. I am SO GRATEFUL. I could have never dreamed of a job that I would love so much, and the reason is getting to work with and be a little part of your lives.
So Merry Christmas and I hope that with all the troubles and trials and sorrows you have endured this year that you find and experience true JOY this beautiful season.
Ros

Our COVID protocol is still in place for everyone who wants curbside service.
I. Order Payment:
1. Voluntarily prepay by 6 pm Thursday if possible using this PAYPAL link. This eliminates passing paper currency back and forth or handling debit/credit cards on site. Your invoice will be marked PAID and pickup is fast and easy. In the event of undelivered items you will be issued a Market credit that will apply to your next order.
2. Debit/Credit – One of us will briefly step within 6 feet for you to put your card in the chip reader. We do our best to avoid touching your card or you touching the equipment which means we sign an “x” for your signature.
3. Cash and Checks – You may hand them to us. Exact change is preferred if using cash to prevent a lot of passing back and forth. If you choose curbside pickup you are welcome to put payment in your trunk/tailgate as that would eliminate the need to come near your window.
II. Order Delivery:
1. Curb Service: Please pull up next to the Market Shed. We will direct traffic a little bit if needed. Have your trunk/ hatchback open and we’ll load you up!
2. Walk Up Pickup: Please do not come inside. When we see you coming we’ll put your order near the entrance and step back for you to claim it. This system works really well for those of you wishing to get extra veggies that may be available.
3. Regardless of how you choose to accept your Market order please know that we make every effort to practice safe distancing and ask that you do the same.
We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!
