Martin's Farmstand:  The Farm stand is open today,

The farm stand is open from 12:30- 5 pm today. (This is the last open weekend before Christmas) We will also be open on Friday and Saturday afternoons. This morning Phillip cut a nice tub of swiss chard from the greenhouse. The stand is stocked with this along with kale, lots of squash, and other storage vegetables. We received another shipment of goodies for the bulk food room last evening so the bulk food room is also stocked.
This is the time of the year that we are planning for next year and doing the seed and plant orders. I enjoy growing flowers and we are thinking to offer the free u-cut flowers again this coming year. The plan is to do a little more onions, maybe 60-70,000 plants instead of 50,000. Many of the crops will have hardly any change but I am thinking of less of the oddball and specialty crops that normally sell mostly to the restaurants. Of course all planning is just that- this is assuming that God continues to give us health and energy and that the world does not get too bad turned upside down. For us 2020 was a wild year and a hard year in some senses with the drought etc however in the end the finances look ok and in general it was a good year. Thank you Lord for your mercies to us.
Winter schedule: In the month of December we will open the farm stand on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays from 12:30 pm till 5 pm. We will be completely closed from Christmas till New year. After the new year till spring the plan is to be open every Friday (12:30pm – 5pm) weather permitting. (If the weather is very stormy or cold call ahead before coming during those midwinter days).

In early May when the asparagus comes up summer hours will resume ( Mon-Sat 10 am -6 pm.

Foothills Market:  Looking for Last-Minute Christmas Ideas? How About Gift Certificates and More?

Foothills Market may just be able to help with those last few gifts. If someone on your list likes sweet things, maybe you could build your own combination basket from our selection of jams, honey, and sorghum. If you know someone who likes reading or has an interest in local history, we offer a set of books from local author Greta Marlow. The books are available individually or as a set (with a price break). Maybe you would like to create your own craft, like a bird house – check out the selection of gourds in the “Farm Crafts” section of the market.

Maybe you’d like to give a gift that will give healthy, local food in the new year. How about a Foothills Market gift certificate? You can get a certificate in any amount, and we’ll apply it to the account balance for the gift recipient. If you’d like to order gift certificates, email the market at [email protected] with the name and the gift amount, and we’ll create a card you can give to the recipient, with instructions about how to create an account.

Shop the market until 5 p.m. today. We’ll have your items ready for pickup Thursday from 4:30-5:30 at the Chamber of Commerce building.

Remember this is the last week we’ll be holding the market until after the New Year.

Merry Christmas!

Statesboro Market2Go:  Market Help Needed

Can you help tomorrow?

Our season finale — the last market pickup for the year — will be a big one! We could use a few more helping hands to ensure everything goes smoothly and customers don’t have to wait in line too long. We need two or three volunteers in the morning, 10:30 to 12:30, to help unload vendors and sort products into customer orders; and another two or three volunteers in the afternoon, 4:00 – 6:00, to assemble orders and take them out to customers in the drive through.

If you can help, text Relinda at 912.481.2263 with your name and available hours. Thanks for whatever you can do!

Washtenaw Organic Collaborative:  Weblog Entry

Dear friends

Just a reminder that today 12/16/20 is the last day for ordering from the Washtenaw Organic Collaborative. The final no-contact pickup of the year at Slow Farm will be this Saturday 12/19/20 from 9am-11:30am. We are shortening the hours because it is going to be cold!! Porch pick up all day at Brines Farm.

There are still some lovely things to order for year-end festivities, including greens, live trees, and herbs, along with absolutely beautiful dessert treats (like maple syrup marshmallows!!) and sustainable wild caught fish from our newest producers including:

- Warda Patisserie – a small Detroit based pâtisserie making sophisticated, hand-crafted seasonal pastries influenced by travels and life in Algeria, France and Asia.

AND

- Shoreline Wild Salmon – wild Alaskan line-caught salmon and fish (*order with them directly for pickup at Slow Farm).

Wishing you the best for the holidays and thank you so much for all your support this year!

Kim, Shannon, Kristen, Jill and all of us at the Washtenaw Organic Collaborative
