Champaign, OH: Tuesday Love Note
And…your reminder that the market will be closing for weekly orders, this morning, at 8am!
Also…so far, no trivia answers for the week…
My question was what downtown Urbana restaurant did I bake in, and help get off the ground, years ago?? I know you know it…a cute little cafe, and later, I opened up my own shop, right across the street from the cafe…give me your answer for a free Cosmic product of your choice…

Statesboro Market2Go: Order Before 10pm Tuesday!
Order before 10 on Tuesday night!
This week at Market2Go we’re appreciating some of the many uses of sweet potatoes, a nutritional All-Star – one of the best vegetables you can eat. They’re loaded with carotenoids, and are a decent source of vitamin C, potassium, and fiber. Cook and then mash in one or more of your favorite spices – sweet (cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, allspice) or savory (cumin, coriander, paprika, chili). Some of our suggestions include:
- Sweet Potato Pancakes are the perfect cozy breakfasts to warm you up on a chilly morning. Be sure to get some pecans for a crunchy topping!
- Whether your burgers be beef, turkey, or veggie, Curried Sweet Potato Wedges make a quick and tasty side dish.
- Sweet Potato Hot Cocoa is easy to prepare, and its toppings can be customized to your heart’s content!
- This Sweet Potato Hash with Ground Turkey is equally healthy and delicious as breakfast or as dinner.
SPECIAL THIS WEEK!
4 & 20 Bakers food truck will be back on site this week, featuring WHOLE pizzas as well as their popular popup combos. Order online and select your choice: Cheese, Pepperoni, Dixie Pig or Garden Party (vegan). You can pick up your whole pizza or pizza/cupcake combo at the food truck — we recommend that you stop by and let Chad know you’re here so your pizza will be ready when you exit the drive through.

Lathemtown Farm Fresh Market: This Week at the Market
Happy Monday! We’ve decided to move ordering to start Monday through Wednesday evening. Look for your newsletters on Monday from now on.
Our seed order came in this week! So exciting! There will be lots of planning going on for the next month as well as soil preparations in the garden. We can assure you there will be plenty of good, fresh food on the way this spring and summer :)
We will be introducing someone new to the market soon. Our goal is to provide our community with great natural, sustainable local products. This new vendor will be a great addition to our market and offer natural cleaning products! Stay tuned!
We’ve added new soups, and baked items this week. Stay warm and healthy!

Good morning on this very cold, icy morning, little local market customers! I hope you are all warming up with coffee, tea, and staying safe if you need to be out and about.
The weekend was a quiet one for me. I had an afternoon with an old friend, on Saturday, and a long conversation with another long time friend, that evening. I had text messages from other longtime pals. I guess it was my weekend to hold onto connections. Catch up. Laugh, chat, remember…I treasure my friends, so much, and I think from childhood to adulthood, those who have withstood, are like my own bookends. Keeping me together. Grounded. Remembering that no matter who I am, today, I owe so much to all of them in helping to make take the steps on life’s journey.
Maybe that is why this market, and you, the customers, are so very dear to me. You make up a very important part of me, in this last decade. Through this market, I have built businesses, served on boards, committees, fought for the survival of this market, used my loud mouth to get the message out there about local food, the local landscape…building networks, new bonds, new friendships. This market, in these past ten years, has given me a new set of bookends for this chapter. And, yet, maybe just one bookend, because we are still growing, still groovy, and nowhere ready to have the second bookend put into place. We all still have much work to do in our next ten years with the market.
A lot of wordiness on a Monday…but, also, a simple reminder for us all to cherish each chapter. And, the market is open until tomorrow morning, taking this week’s chapter of orders…
I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday.
AND…Thursday is to be very cold, so if you do not want to be out in the cold, we can deliver to you, for a small fee, on Friday!! Keep that in mind…
Have a lovely day…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Market News
Our little spot out on Tallassee road has its quirks, and I know it takes you a time or two coming out there to know where to turn, what loop to drive, and so forth. I’ve been trying to make things a little easier by investing in a lot of rechargeable weatherproof LED lights, but last week one of our members, high school freshman Julia Trail, made things even better by revamping our sandwich board sign on on the road. She used reflective letters, painted the lumber bright white, and made other improvements to what we had. Thank you so much, Julia!
We’re going to get a brief look at spring this week, followed be several days of deep freeze, enough to bite back some of the thinner leafy greens. Most of our growers will counter that with row covers or keeping the hoop houses closed up tight, or even providing some external heat. I know a few growers have wood heaters they deploy in weather like this, just to keep the ice away from the more sensitive crops, or the summer crops they’re managing to keep going under protection. You’ll notice that gradually our farmers are coming back from some time off and the product list is once again growing. This week we welcome back Green Acres Farm.
Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you at our market’s home on Tallassee Road!
We are still getting new customers every week (and we love seeing new masked faces!) so for all of you you can find a detailed run-down of how Thursdays go on our website here: https://athens.locallygrown.net/faq#7
Other Area Farmers Markets
If ALG doesn’t have everything you need, please support our growers at the other markets that are now back up and running, or at their own locations. The Comerian takes online orders for Saturday pickup at the bakery here: https://www.thecomerian.com/online-ordering. The Athens Farmers Market aims both taking a few weeks off, but they’ll return soon. The West Broad Farmers Market is back, holding a drive through market just like us (and using my software too, so it’ll be nice and familiar). You can join them at https://wbfm.locallygrown.net. The Culinary Kitchen of Athens has started a socially distanced winter market, Saturdays from 11am to 2pm at Hendershots on Prince. And of course Collective Harvest is going strong over at https://www.collectiveharvestathens.com.
All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!
We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!
