Lathemtown Farm Fresh Market: This Week at the Market
Looks like we have a wet week ahead! The garden is loving it! We’ll have lots of fruits and veggies thriving in the spring rains and coming sunshine.
For those of you that have placed orders, we ask that if you can return containers, we would appreciate it very much! We try to reuse and recycle as much as possible so plastics and glass don’t end up in the trash. We take egg cartons, glass jars and containers and plastic containers from our food products sold. This also keeps product costs down as well! Just return when you pick up your order in a bag and set under the table.
The featured vendor this week is Springwood Cashmere Farm. Joanne and Mike have a farm in Milton where they produce 4 main products: Cashmere, soap& lotion , eggs and pinecones.
They have a breeding program of the endangered “Wood’ Bloodline of Spanish Goats which produce hand sheared cashmere.
Handmade Luxury soap and lotion produced in small batches using high-quality Essential and Fragrance oils, The tallow in these recipes has been rendered at home from fresh tallow. creating their own scent combinations. Cold Processed and air dried for 30 days in the traditional method for a high-quality product.
Eggs – they have 24 Golden Buff Comet laying hens that have been fed only organic feed since the day they arrived from the hatchery.
They sell large pine cones that drop from the plentiful pine trees on the property for the artsy people who like to create their own natural art work. Their philosophy is that if it can be used we should find a way to use it instead of throwing it away and clogging up the landfills with yard waste.
Check out their farm and more information on their history and animals at:

Have a great week!

Champaign, OH: Monday Morning
Monday morning you sure look fine…
(Fleetwood Mac)
It looks like a full day of rain, ahead, but that doesn’t need to dampen your spirit, or squash your excitement for ordering!!
Happy Monday, lovelies…I hope you had a lovely weekend!! The weather was so nice, even with the winds. I worked on flower beds, planted in containers, at my house, and got herbs ready to plant for Hippie and the Farmer, at the farm, where you can begin seeing them in their herb boxes at market pick up. I spent time with one of my best pals from high school, baked for customers, and enjoyed a free weekend of nothing.
I hope you are feeling recharged, and ready to face the week. And, I hope that this little local market of love can provide you with the ease of ordering all the local goods that you have come to love without the hassle of shopping inside the stores.
Have a great start to your week!
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Market News
It’s a week of transitions, what with UGA done for the semester (and Maymester starting up) and the public schools starting to wind down for the year. With sudden changes in schedules and routine coupled with beautiful warm evenings, it’s also a time that more people that usual tend to forget to pick up their orders. It’s a good time to check the phone number on your account, over on the Your Account page, to make sure that it’s current and preferably a cell phone. I start texting people within a half hour of them missing their chosen pickup slot — and a bit after 7 for those few that choose the 7-8pm slot — and every week there are folks I reach who completely forgot it was Thursday. There are also usually people I’m not able to reach at all, because I have a number for a land line or if I get a chance to call they don’t answer and don’t have voice mail set up, and 8 o’clock rolls around and their food is still sitting there. When that happens I have to give the food away and charge them anyway, because the growers deserve to get paid. I’d much rather you get the food you order, even if we have to work out an an arrangement when I reach you with the reminder call, and that’s much easier if I can reach you before we leave for the night. I’m not allowed to keep the items for you to pick up another day, for several legal and liability reasons, but if I can reach you and I know you’re on the way, I can leave the bag sitting out for you when I leave.
Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you at our market’s home on Tallassee Road!
We are still getting new customers every week (and we love seeing new masked faces!) so for all of you you can find a detailed run-down of how Thursdays go on our website here: https://athens.locallygrown.net/faq#7
Other Area Farmers Markets
If ALG doesn’t have everything you need, please support our growers at the other markets that are now back up and running, or at their own locations. The Comerian takes online orders for Saturday pickup at the bakery here: https://www.thecomerian.com/online-ordering. The Athens Farmers Market is holding their Saturday market once again in Bishop Park. They’re still operating under pandemic rules, so you’ll want to read up on all the changes on their website, http://athensfarmersmarket.net. The West Broad Farmers Market is back, holding a drive through market just like us (and using my software too, so it’ll be nice and familiar). You can join them at https://wbfm.locallygrown.net. The Culinary Kitchen of Athens has started a socially distanced winter market, Saturdays from 11am to 2pm at Hendershots on Prince. And of course Collective Harvest is going strong over at https://www.collectiveharvestathens.com.
All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!
We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!
