The Wednesday Market:  We're Open! Stay Cool This Week.

Good afternoon.

The Wednesday Market is open for orders. Please place your order by 10 p.m. Monday. Orders are ready for pick up between 2 and 4 p.m. Wednesday. See the website for this week’s product offerings. Here is the link: https://wednesdaymarket.locallygrown.net/market

Well, this week is going to be a scorcher, according to the weather forecasters. While the actual temperature will not make it all the way up to three digits, the heat index surely will. Take it easy out there, wear breathable fabrics, apply sunscreen, and hydrate!

Thank you for supporting Georgia Grown, and we’ll see you at the Market!

Thanks,

Beverly

P.S. If you need to contact someone about your order, please call Sharon Fox, (404) 569-0582, or email her at [email protected].

New’s from a few of our Grower’s:

RC Farms: Along with a great assortment of produce and BEEF we now have some popular fruit available and more to come. Find Cantaloupes, Peaches & Cream Corn and Peaches this week. We’ve restocked our Beef selections.

Quarter Spring Farm: we have a plethora of plump chickens for your culinary escapades. We just finished processing our first batch of the year, so these are some fine fresh fowl. We also have our usual assortment of skin softening soaps and lotions. And we just introduced a brand new scent of lotion: coconut lime. Now you can smell like the beach, even if you’re actually stuck inland with the rest of us.

Sow’s Ear Piggery: we are back on the market this week with ‘NEW’ Non-GMO pork products, including pork tenderloin, cutlets, and chops, as well as roasts, ground pork, and mild pork sausage (no MSG).
You will notice some packaging changes with the ground products, as our butcher was unable to source the typically tube-like sleeves we are accustomed to getting. Also, this order was from a pig with a higher fat percentage due to its heritage breeding. In the past, if you have needed to add a little oil to fry our sausage or ground pork, this will not be necessary. In fact, you will be able to drain a couple of tablespoons of oil from your skillet. This rendered lard is excellent for sauteing garlic, onions, mushrooms, or cooking eggs. Studies have shown that outdoor, pasture-raised pigs have higher omega 3 and lower saturated fat than commercial pork raised in warehouses on concrete with no access to foraging. As always, Sow’s Ear Piggery pork is non-GMO fed and USDA inspected.

Carole’s Herbs (CS3 Farm): We’ve got onions, radicchio, and giant red mustard! Also check out our pestos, gourmet mustards, and our beautiful wildflower arrangements.

Bean Man: It’s baking time again for the market! We will have our Gluten Free Cassava and Coconut Shortbreads this week and we will also offer a taller loaf for each one. Each is listed under Gluten Free in the Baked Products section of the Market as either a Short Bread (approximately 4.5 wide x 8.5 long x 2.5 high at the crest) version or Standard Version (approximately 3.5 wide x 8 long x 3.5 high at the crest) with each giving you 10-16 slices depending on your preference. BTW, the Coconut Bread is considered low carb (2.4 g net carbs at 10 slices per loaf).

Of course we have our full selection of Fresh Dry Beans and Mixes available along with our Scottish Oatmeals, Gluten Free Flours and Ready to Mix products covering a broad range of healthy dietary needs that you can truly enjoy. If you follow us on social media, we have been planting our next crop of beans and our last plant of oats is working its way to harvest. Remember, we are a Gluten Free farm and we grow or make all of our products that you see offered so everything is fresh, without chemicals and only offered in the same season of harvest.

Spring Meadow Farm: this week Bacon Cheese Quiche, Brussell Sprout Leaves, Cauliflower Leaves, Garlic Bulbs, Shallots, Yellow Onions.

Flying S Farms: This week we have our Fresh Farm Chicken and EGG BUNDLES-3 dozen, great savings! Green Garlic Bulbs and Garlic Scapes still available, Curly leaf lettuce, Several different varieties of Kale, Kohlrabi. Yellow Straight neck Squash, Cucumbers, Onions and Potatoes, Sour Dough Breads, Plain and the our Wheat Bread is Back. Few popular Jams are back with more to come this week – Just Strawberry, Seriously HOT Strawberry, Habanero Peach, Muscadine Grape Jelly and more!

Thank you and have a wonderful rest of your weekend!

Middle Tennessee Locally Grown:  Welcome Back; New Items

Middle Tennessee Locally Grown market

will be open for your orders till Tuesday evening at 10 pm.

Well, not exactly “new.” More like “returning,” but I don’t have a banner for that (yet.) Triple B Farm, welcome back. Natasha writes:

Triple B/Pickleweeds is back up on the market. We have raw goats’ milk to offer right now while the milk is flowing so plentiful! Along with the milk we also have raw goat cheese available. Our goats are fed non-GMO feed with no corn or soy. They also get alfalfa and hay! They browse on 3 acres of land and are on field rotation to help with parasites. We try and use natural methods to keep them parasite free but in the instance we have to resort to chemicals, the milk will be taken off till the appropriate withdrawal time has been observed. Give it a try!

On another note, sorry we don’t have our yummy non-GMO eggs at this time. We had a predator issue that impacted our egg production. We have since taken care of that! As soon as we have eggs again, they will be back on the market! Thank you for your continued support!

(Top, L to R) Non-GMO Raw Goats’ Milk, Raw Goats’ Milk Cheese, Crusader Coffee.
(Row 2, L to R) Teas, several Dried Herbs and several Fresh Herbs.

From CS3 Farms:
We’ve got onions, radicchio, and giant red mustard! Also check out our pestos, gourmet mustards, and our beautiful wildflower arrangements.

GROWER & MARKET NOTES

We may be a few days shy of Summer Solstice yet but our temperatures sure don’t know that! It’s a reminder of how blessed our Market is to have a great place for order delivery and pickup every Friday morning! We are always indebted to JD Boone and Dothan Nurseries for hosting Market at Dothan. Between the curtains and the fan and opening the refrigerator and freezer all along it’s reasonably comfortable in the Market Shed. And we greatly enjoy serving our growers and customers with the best local food to be found in the area!

We still have lots of healthy goodies for you to order and pick up on Tuesday – ordering closes tonight at 9.

Today was the first day of the Cherry St. Farmers Market in downtown Troy. I hope a lot of you were able to come out and enjoy the beautiful day and support our local farmers.

What’s nice about our Virtual Market is that farmers only need to harvest what they’ve already sold, and they don’t need to take a large hunk of time away from their farming work to man their table at a traditional farmers market.

So…let’s support both! If farmers are set up at a market, come buy your food from them, and also order your food ahead of time by shopping Miami County Locally Grown – it’s the best of both worlds!

Martin's Farmstand:  U-pick strawberries Saturday starting at 7 am

We are opening for u-pick for the first picking of the season tomorrow morning Saturday (June 11, 2022) starting at 7 am. Some sections of the patch have quite a lot of berries that are ready and in other areas there are just a few. (I estimate 2-400 quarts ready) Be expecting somewhat slow picking as there are also lots of green tips berries to work around. Peak season is still 7-10 days out yet. It is fairly likely on the first picking that the patch will be all picked fairly early in the day so call before coming if you are coming later.
Hours for u-pick are Monday starting at 7 AM; Wednesday, start 2 PM (no morning picking on Wednesdays); Saturday, start 7 AM. This repeats through out the whole season. The patch closes when the berries are all picked or at 6 PM.
When you arrive you do not need to stop at the stand to weigh your containers if you know the empty weight already. Also you do not need to stop if you are picking into standard Quart or gallon containers.
You have the option of bringing your own containers or buy empties from us.(Quart boxes 25 cents each. If you are buying empty containers from us please pay when you get them rather than after you are done picking to minimize confusion as to what is going on.
We will do our best to spread groups apart in the field. I expect family/friend groups to stay together as much as is reasonable to allow for social distancing where it matters. NO DOGS in the field or stand areas. We will be using the same random picking pattern that we did last year. This means that you may start anyplace you wish in the patches that are open as long as you are not cutting in front of someone. It is mandatory that when you are picking that all the ripe berries are picked as you move ( No roaming or grazing type picking. A section of row must either be picked or not picked when you leave. We will be scouting the patch and keep suggesting where you will find good picking.
Pricing (u-pick) $4 per Quart if less than 8 quarts and $3.25 per quart if more than 8 quarts; $26 for 8 quart tray and $12.50 for 4 liquid quart buckets, water pitchers, bowls and other similar sized containers. All containers are expected to well filled but not heaped. We will adjust prices up or down as needed for over or under-filled containers. By the pound price is $2.20/# (limited to bigger containers or larger amounts); By using volume rather than weight when it makes sense we can bypass the stand for most of the berries and reduce congestion. If you pay by credit card there is a 3% surcharge added to the above prices and you will need to use the inside checkout station rather than outside express options. Daniel
