Champaign, OH: Heart Of Gold
I want to live,
I want to give
I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold.
It’s these expressions I never give
That keep me searching for a heart of gold…
(Heart Of Gold…Neil Young)
Well, here we are on a sunny, sort of chilly Monday morning, still in this time of oddness, the quiet, the madness, all mixed in with this new normal.
I’m listening to a set list of Neil Young, this morning, especially his harmonica playing, because in my moments of solitude, I am teaching myself some of the different instruments in my collection.
And, this song…Heart Of Gold…it’s what I have for all of you. The lovely customers, the lovely vendors, this lovely market.
You all are making it golden. This weekend has now crashed all records, flying higher and higher. You are amazing, you make me cry more than you could imagine, and you rally. You bring me you spirit, your smiles, your kind emails and texts. The vendors are working round the clock to make sure we all stay on top of product, and to say that I feel we are all creating a golden bubble to float through all of this, is an understatement.
My gratitude is deep, my love is real, and my heart is full from all of you…
*Notes:
I added a another egg vendor…Happy Chickens!! We are so thankful for their addition!!
If you are a dog treat customer from The Barkery, please get your orders in, today, by say, mid afternoon!
The rest of you, the market closes tomorrow night, at 10pm. How high can we go, how gold can we get?
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Market News
Hi there! We’re still taking things week by week, day by day, but right now it looks like we can keep going another week. Getting farm fresh food in your hands is more important than ever and we’ll be doing everything we can to safely get it to you. Last week was the most amount of food we’ve ever distributed at our Ben’s Bikes location. We made some tweaks to our organization in the back, and having the hour-long blocks for you to choose when to arrive really helped a lot. We’re going to keep doing that for the foreseeable future.
The live plants will continue to be self-service. Organizing the food will be our first priority, and if we have hands after that to organize the plants by customer, we will. All the pots are labelled, just like your food items, but it’ll be up to you to get the right ones. Bringing a list or your order confirmation email will help out a lot there, and we’ll point you to the general area where we think your plants are. Be sure you grab the right ones! Some of you have the same last name, so take a look at the full name on the pots before you grab them to be sure they’re yours. Last week we had some people go home empty handed because someone else grabbed their plants by mistake.
We’re still not accepting in-person payments unless absolutely necessary. We’ll have a drop box for checks or labelled envelopes of cash, but we greatly prefer Venmo payments to @athenslocallygrown or online payments through a card tied to your account. That last option has a 3% fee, and Venmo is free. We can not accept any recycling, we cannot take your own bags or bins, and we ask that you keep yourselves separated. I will have three tables up front so you can form three separate lines if you choose.
Keep in mind that conditions are still changing rapidly. We’ll notify you as soon as we know if anything happens to affect where, when, and if you can pick up your order.
Finally, a reminder that while the parking lot there is decently sized, it’s still no shopping center and there are a lot of you coming and going. Take it slow, give yourselves lots of room to get around, and be patient with everyone. This is new territory for all of us, and we’re having to adjust on the fly. Last week saw several times the usual amount of sales for our growers, which would be logistically challenging for us in normal circumstances. Please be patient with us on Thursday if things don’t go the most smoothly, and if you see something we could be doing better, please tell us. We don’t know how long we’ll be able to do this, but we’ll keep it going as long as we possibly, and safely, can.
We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Foothills Market: The Market is Open!
Sorry for the delay in opening Foothills Market this week. We’ve been talking about ways we can adjust what we do with the market to meet the best practices suggested by the Arkansas Farmers Market Association and the Coalition for Obesity Prevention.
To meet those guidelines, we are planning on implementing the following policies, starting with next week’s market:
- We will have a drive-up market. There is no need for you to get out of your car; we will bring your order to you and place it in the car.
- We will be setting up an online payment option for the market, and we encourage you to use it. To cover the cost of the online system, we will include a surcharge on your order (We are trying to decide what percentage that surcharge should be – we are thinking somewhere between 5-8%). Our farmers currently cover the cost of using the online market software as well as the sales tax for your order, so we are asking customers to cover this surcharge as a convenience cost. (This option may not be available until next week.)
- For this week, we will be accepting only checks or exact change as payment. If you pay with more cash than your order costs, the amount over your order will be applied to your account as a balance you can use on future orders. Checks need to be made payable to Jeff Marlow, since he is the treasurer for the market and the bank won’t accept checks made out to Foothills Market.
These times are challenging, but we are glad to still be available as an option for providing fresh, local food. We want to do everything we can to protect the health of our community.
Browse the market between now and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, make your selections, and press the “Place your order” button. We’ll have the order ready for pickup between 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursday on the west side of the courthouse square in downtown Clarksville.
Stay well, and eat something fresh this week!
