Foothills Market:  Market Reminder

Foothills Market will be open for another couple of hours, so you still have time to place an order. Order by 5 p.m., and we’ll have your order ready for pickup tomorrow between 4:30-5:30 p.m. on the west side of the courthouse square.

The Cumming Harvest - Closed:  Weblog Entry

I hope everyone is staying safe this week and in the near future. To reiterate what was said last weekend:

We will open the market this week and our pickup on Saturday will largely be the same as previous weeks. In response to concerns over Covid-19 we will disinfect and sanitize all shared surfaces before and after business is conducted in the market. The iPad and card reader as well as the cash box will be wiped down after each customer. We ask that if you are feeling under the weather that you please refrain from placing an order this week or send someone else to pickup for you. Please follow all sanitary precautions put out by the CDC as we are following those guidelines as well and we want to keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible.

We hope you all are staying safe and we appreciate your continued support in these trying times.

Thank you, Happy Shopping!

Champaign, OH:  My Heartfelt Thank You

Your morning weblog comes from your very grateful, and proud market manager…

As I closed the market, last night, the last orders were still coming in. Each week you’ve been propelling us, to new levels. This week, we skyrocketed to a place that has no words. We love your support, we love your dedication, we love the new customers, over 20 this week, who will now get to know the market love that has been happening for 9 years…

I just wanted to take this moment to thank you, and to tell you to please watch your emails, because I will be sending a weblog explaining how we will be doing the market pick up, tomorrow, to streamline the event, to get you on the road, quickly, and to keep you all in your cars, safe and healthy.

If the sun is shining, tomorrow, during your wait, bask in the warmth, take in the view, and get ready to experience the total local farm experience.

And, if you would like to pre-pay, you can call me, today, to give payment information! If we have your information, no need to call, we will run your payments. If you used us, at the YMCA, and had a card on file, we need you to call us with card information. We brought nothing of their systems with us!

Again…my heartfelt thank you, and if you feel so inclined, in your day of solitude, turn on some John Prine, and pay tribute to his sad passing. Your market manager is feeling it, deeply, today…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Recipes

Roger’s Black Bean Dip

A hearty, filling, and addictive bean dip acquired during one of my parents diving vacations. From Cook’in Little Cayman

Serves: I’d like to say 4-6 people….but I could probably eat it all myself!

30 oz cooked black beans (~1 1/2 c dried beans)
1 cup medium/hot salsa
4 oz cream cheese, softened
2 tbs minced garlic
1 bunch fresh cilantro
1 tsp fajita seasoning

1. Cook your Grumpy Goat black beans. I use the instant pot on high pressure for 20 minutes. If you don’t have one soak your beans overnight and then boil for about 1.5 hours or until soft.
2. Combine all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth.
3. Serve with tortilla chips and a margarita

You can’t go wrong with black beans! It’s not pretty but it is delicious.

Market News

So we will be having a market pick up in Sidney in front of Vin & Joy on Saturday, however there will not be any pick ups next week (sorry no Tuesday pick up). We’ve been slammed with bread orders the past few weeks so have decided to align our week off with the Miami County Locally Grown Vacation in which we also participate.
We appologize for any inconvenience.

Besides baking life continues to be busy on the farm. Matt has been continually starting seeds some of which will soon be put in the ground. The kale, chard, brocolli, cilantro, cauliflower, dill, chinese cabage, and pac choi are all nicely sized and the tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and okra aren’t far behind. We have also been spending amply time with our 13 goat kids. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it. We are trying to make sure they are nice and friendly for their new homes come June.

We have also seeded the clover (can never have too much hay) and will reseed some of the hay field this week. This 70 degree weather makes us feel like we are behind on our planting…but then we remember it is just April. We hope that you are all enjoying some ‘down’ time and are staying happy and healthy.

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Champaign, OH:  A Word From Stoll/Vernon Family Farms

Vernon Grass-Fed Lamb

It’s Easter soon and what a treat to serve Leg of Lamb Chops for your family dinner this year!
These chops are cut from the favorite part of the lamb. They are a thick cut and dense with a natural sweet flavor. If you like beef rib eye, you will love the similar taste of these chops. Use your favorite seasonings and an au jus if you like with roasted vegetables!
Remember to use a little good olive oil while cooking as these grass fed cuts are very lean and packed with meat!
We raise only Grass- Fed animals on our farms to capture the best nutrients and natural grasses for our animals to graze all year long!
2 per package with approximate weight of 2 lbs per package for $21.00.
Enjoy and have a blessed Easter!

Linda

Champaign, OH:  Thank You

And, so today, my world it smiles…
(Lyric from Thank You-Led Zeppelin)

Today, my world, the market world, the vendor world, the customer world…it all smiles, as each and every order comes in.

It’s Tuesday, and well, the orders and sales have been staggering. We still have until this evening, at 10pm, to take orders, and then we will all get to work to bring you the best of the best, the best local has to offer, the best spirit, the best soul, the best market…

Let this serve as your reminder, and I will then give you a last call reminder, this evening, before closing.

Thank you…the words bear so much meaning, and yet not near enough, for this market manager to express…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Locally Grown Market CCF:  Veggies need another week

Hello farm community,

As spring moves in with us, everything has a different look because of the suffering of the world. Yet, the spring comes, anyway, and plants grow and flowers bloom.

The plants are growing, but not yet ready for harvest. I hope by next week there will be arugula and green onions and romaine lettuce and maybe some green garlic. Please check back in then. I will send out another email on Monday night to let you know.

Please be safe and keep others safe.
