Caldwell County, KY, Farmers Market:  Opening Day for Caldwell County ONLINE Farmers Market

Good morning! Thank you for becoming an online market member! We’re excited to experience this new adventure with you!

With the out-of-ordinary events due to the pandemic, we are not opening our on-site farmers market at City Hall at this time. Our plan is to have the on-site market up and going by Memorial Day weekend. We will keep you posted on the progress!

As a market member, you will receive an email each Tuesday morning letting you know when market opens. Market will close on Thursday at 5pm. You have between Tuesday and Thursday to shop the items that our growers have made available for order.
To see what products are available for the week, you will use the link The Market at the top of the page.

Pick-up for the online market will work similar to a drive thru. On Saturday mornings from 9-11am, you will pick up your online orders at the market location at City Hall.

PLEASE PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THESE PICK-UP DIRECTIONS.
You will ENTER on E Main Street between Newsom’s and City Hall and EXIT on E Market Street in front of Franklin Street Apartments.
We appreciate your patience as we work to make the traffic flow smooth and easy.

To be able to place an online order, you will need to connect a debit or credit card to your account. At this time, we are only taking debit or credit card payments at the time of your order. There will be NO cash transactions or payment at the pick-up site.

If you have any questions about the ordering process or general market questions, please feel free to message us on our Facebook page (Caldwell County KY Farmers Market) or send a message to this email address [email protected].

We look forward to serving you!

Champaign, OH:  The Pretender

And when the evening rolls around
I’ll go on home and lay my body down
And when the morning light comes streaming in
I’ll get up and do it again…
(Jackson Browne-The Pretender)

Jackson Browne…one of my favorites. A market customer suggested this song, and this lyric for a market reopening song, after the long evening of running to and fro with market orders…I think it’s pretty perfect…

Now…tonight…well, there are nights, and there are nights. Once again we had the winds, but now mixed with sleety rain, and cold temps. Even clothed in my warm rain boots, hat, Sherpa poncho, I was freezing!!

But, you, the customers, with your kind words, smiles, waves…you make it all worth while.

I love that we are able to bring you the loveliest of local, but I dislike it, so much, when some things don’t go as they should.

Let’s start with the lettuces and basil…yes, the delivery did not happen until the market was concluding, customers were sent away, me apologizing, taking the extra time to refund money, credit accounts, try to work out if a delivery, over the weekend would be possible, but not knowing where the driver was, because there was no communication. It’s hard, at times, to depend on things beyond your control. So, to the first part of the alphabet, I had to make a decision in the second time slot, as I was explaining to upset customers about no lettuce, that we would just credit all cards that we have on file, and if you had paid with cash or check, we will just credit your market, for next week or next time you order. Tough call, tough explaining, and tough waiting, and not knowing.

Second…there may be times, especially in these very trying times, that the meat supply may need to play catch up with the demand. This is not a farmer’s fault. They are all in this, together, and the sudden demand is pushing them to have to wait, and wait, and wait to get worked into all of the processing places. It’s not the farmer’s fault. We are in very serious times, seeing things that we have never had to deal with, before. Some weeks, there may not be the supply, but in the following weeks, there will be. They are all waiting, watching, and worrying, and bring us all that they can. Let’s all be patient, and applaud all of the hard work that they, and all local producers are enduring, right now….

Ok…other than that, the market was lovely, your market manager is still thawing out with wine, music, and blankets…

And, oh, the loveliness of one customer offering the gift of wine…how very super nice, and sweet…you all just make me cry, at times…

We begin with a new slate, this evening, the market reopens for the weekly ordering, and I am headed to dreamland…

Also, please remember that when you order, you need to make sure you hit the Pay Later button, and make sure you get an order confirmation…

Much love to you…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Duluth Cottage Kitchen:  week 18/2020

time flies!

only one more day of April.
We here in the garden barely notice the lock down, we work, work, work,
weed and seed, transplant and harvest in our own little bubble, getting plenty of workout without ever leaving.
a big THANK YOU to my garden helpers Judy, Aki & Erika, and my mom, of course
one should think this is all about getting work done, but it is not,
it is much more about human contact, however socially distant, in times of human isolation,
about chatting the time away while we get things done,
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU

biggest news this week:

we will attend Suwanee Farmers Market Saturday  May 2nd, 8-12

please remember Suwanee Farmers Market does not allow sales of cottage food items.
If you want to pick up jams, jellies or dehydrates at the Suwanee market,
please pre-order “for pick-up only”.
Is it OK if I am excited and scared at the same time?
This will be my first time and I have no idea what to bring, how much to bring, how to keep my greens from wilting,
please bear with Mom and me thru this learning phase.

not much else going on this week,
I finally put one of mom’s favorites on the market

suppengemuese

she puts this powder in everything she would use veggie broth in, like bread dumplings, Gulasch, stir fries, … or plain water to make veggie broth

at home ‘Suppengemüse’ is a common item you get in every supermarket as a mix of fresh vegetables, containing a piece of celeriac, celery, lovage or parsley, a piece of leeks or onion greens, and always a carrot, tied together with thread into a bundle
usually not as pretty and fresh as this:

IMG-2968

think you would want such bundles of mixed veggies for cooking broth?
I will offer for a while and go from there, fair enough?

what else is new?
more tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash planted
kales and collards are on their last leg, if you are a kale or collard lover, stock up now, both freeze well when blanched, for smoothies, soups, pancakes I keep offering kale powder.

looking forward to seeing you in Suwanee

your humble veggie gardener

Miami County Locally Grown:  Mother's Day Giveaways!!

Whew, you’d think being the mother of five, a resourceful farm wife, and the very Blessed manager of this wonderful Market, that I’d be slightly more adept at change and going with the flow – obviously not, as it’s now Friday and I’m just managing my first weblog of the week! What the heck! :-)

But at least it’s full of good news, right (if being a mother and a farmer have taught me anything, it’s the need to be positive)?!

Thanks to my own talented Mother, we have THREE beautiful bouquets to give away for Mother’s Day, to three lucky customers!! They’re pints of wooden flowers she dyes, paints and arranges with perfect TLC – and this stubborn daughter finally convinced her to let me buy these beauties for our next fun giveaway!!

Check out the pictures of the bouquets on The Market tab under the MCLG category, and enter to win your favorite – or enter all three drawings to better your odds! No double winners, don’t worry ;-)

Any customer who has placed an order with us in the month prior to Mother’s Day (from April 14th to May 10th) is eligible to win!

We’ll draw the winners on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 10th, and they’ll be able to pick up their bouquets during regular pick-up hours the following Tuesday, May 12th – 4:30-7:30pm!
