Miami County Locally Grown: POSTPONED - Spring Farmer's Market
Although Virtual Market pickup will continue to run as normal, we sadly must postpone the Spring Farmer’s Market that was scheduled for this Tuesday, May 5th.
Although no part of me wanted to have to say that, we must not only continue to put the health and concerns of our vendors and customers first, but also respect both the steady communications from our diligent Health Dept, as well as the Methodist Church’s continued cancellation of activities.
We’ll look forward to hosting another series of night markets in the future, and thank you for your patience and continued support!!
On a happy note, I heard rumblings of asparagus ready to go on the Market Tuesday!! A sure sign of spring and all the good things to come ;-)
Champaign, OH: That's The Way
And yesterday I saw you kissing tiny flowers…
(That’s The Way-Led Zeppelin)
Beautiful lyric to a beautiful song to start your lovely Saturday morning…
The market is so on fire, already, with your love, and your orders, and your excitement…just as the season is about to spring into action, we are here, making it all happen for you!
Just like all of the songs, lyrics, and artists that I find inspiration in, I find that same inspiration in you, the customers, the market, and it’s vendors. I’ve always called this collection of vendors, Rock Stars…The Rock Stars Of Local. Our own band of local greatness, singing to your souls…
The market has taken off, once again, quite quickly, and is open until Tuesday evening. Won’t you join in on the local scene?
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Thank you for choosing Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as a way to support your local producers. This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!
PICKUP TIME is Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m.
If you do not get an email ORDER CONFIRMATION right after you order then your order is NOT complete. Log back in and your order might still be there waiting for you to check out! If you have any trouble or questions at all, we are here to help; simply reply to this email.

Good evening,
We had another great Market tonight, thank you to everyone who participated!
Barbara Moncrief has sewn some beautiful masks and donated them to the Farmers Market! Thank you Barbara! If you are in need of a mask, let us know on Friday when you pick up your order.
We have some new vendors with products available this week, welcome Simple Creek Farm, The Cowgirl Way and Pendle Alpacas!
To those that are new to the Market, you can always place more than one order. Sometimes our vendors do not list their products when the Market opens on Friday night. It’s totally fine to check back throughout the week and place multiple orders. Everything will be ready for your scheduled pickup time on Friday.
To Shop: Independence Farmers Market.
Please remember to schedule an appointment time to pick up your order using this link Calendy.
Be sure to let us know if you need to cancel an order due to illness. Thank you all for working together to keep each other safe and healthy.
Thank you so much for supporting the Independence Farmers Market!

Martin's Farmstand: When will the asparagus be ready?
Asparagus season usually starts (and the farm stand opens)somewhere around May 4th to May 12th. This year we are on the late side of normal. Currently the soil temperature is still cold and the asparagus is hiding down below until we have some warmth and sun or even better yet a good warm soaking rain. When the conditions are right asparagus can grow over 1/2 inch per hour!
The fields are exceptionally dry for the time of year. The big pond over at the old farm has not filled completely full over the winter. I have never seen it not running over in the early spring since I built it in 1999. We had a bit over 1/10 inch of rain last night. The fields are saying we need more. The farmers boys did not express much enthusiasm to the idea that we need to start pumping water already.
Yesterday we finished setting the last of the onions plants out in the field. With Gods blessing we anticipate harvesting lots of good red, sweet and hot cooking onions in about 100 days. The strawberry plants look good. (strawberry season is in the later part of June.)
We are preparing to open the farm stand for the season as soon as the asparagus is ready for harvest. I do not foresee major changes from the covid issue. We will not have any special rules beyond whatever the general expectations the government is saying such as stay home if you are sick, wash you hands, maintain distance between people etc.
Besides the normal physical stand we are taking online orders at https://martinsfarmstand.locallygrown.net. I have been researching ways to take online payment. They add significantly to the cost and for the moment we have chosen not to pursue it. We have brought the old drop safe out that we had at the old self service stand for people to place there payment in. (This helps minimize cross contamination issues from handling money and then produce). You can bring a check, cash (we can give change) or a credit card to the stand. You can also pay on account ahead of time.
For now we are not taking used bags. Bring your own bag and plan to bag the produce yourself. If you forget to bring your bags for any reason though we do have new bags in hiding and they are willing to give you service.
We plan to open for u pick strawberry season as normal. There will be a few changes in traffic patterns and check in and out areas to increase safety
We are changing the stand hours. The old hours were 10 AM- 6 PM. The open hours this year will be 12:30 PM- 6 PM Monday- Saturday. Closed Sunday These changes are to give us more time in the forenoon to get things harvested and online orders packed. This also should allow my wife to get the house in order in the morning and for us to eat lunch as a family. The advantage to you is that we should be less burnt out and be ready to give you all good service with a bit of love mixed in. Daniel

Champaign, OH: Rivers and Roads
Been talking ’bout the way things change…
(Rivers and Roads-The Head and the Heart)
The song that I chose for this dreary Friday, while I wake up with coffee, and readying for another day of baking, is a song that is just so beautiful, and speaks so much about these times…just missing things, people, places…rivers and roads…
Anyway, thank you for all of your kind emails, last night. They warmed my soul.
And, the orders already pouring in are amazing! This market loves you! We are seeing the gift of life in the market with all of the live plant offerings, flowers, beauty…
Our vendors go above and beyond, and my outpouring of love, goes out to them, always.
Old Souls contacted me, early this morning, and will be reaching out to yesterday’s customers. Again…the love for them, is great.
I will see all of you who are picking up, today, at the greenhouse, between 10am-noon. Please, call me, 937-926-4833, when you arrive, and I will head to the greenhouse, to grab your order, and bring it out to you.
With news of now extending the stay at home, the delay of some businesses, reopening, and the general concern for health, happiness, and safety, we are so very, very, very glad to bring all of that, to you, each and every week.
Go, enjoy your day, turn on some music, and be kind to yourselves…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
