Stones River Market: Market is OPEN -- See you Wednesday
Welcome to the October 17th and 18th Stones River Locally Grown Online Farmers Market!
-
New Fall and Winter Hours:
As the days get shorter we are adjusting our pickup times on the porch to 5-6:15. Please adjust your schedules accordingly! If you can not make the new hours, please let us know before closing, we can make your orders available with Quinn’s Mercantile so you can stop by and pick them up.*
Please share our market web address with your health-conscious friends, via text, email, or social media (and/or forward this message). https://stonesriver.locallygrown.net The more healthy members we have, the more variety of produce and product we can provide!
The Market opens at 8:00 am on Sunday morning and closes at 10:00 pm Monday evening. Order early before we run out of that one item you “must have!” You can always come back to order more (and some growers may identify added produce while the market is open).
We look forward to seeing you on the Porch this Wednesday from 5-6:15, with deliveries following. Know that our growers have the hour prior to get their products organized so things might be a bit hectic (and crowded) if you come early.
Please comment to the Manager when you checkout if you require curb service, and include your anticipated time of arrival so we can have your order ready and watch for your arrival.
Delivery Service is available for $10 within a 10 mile radius of Murfreesboro, outside areas additional $1.00 per mile is added. Delivery is also available to Woodbury at a host location. If this is the first time you’ve requested delivery please put your address in the comments before you check out. Methods of Payment are Cash, Checks or Credit/Debit Cards or we can email an Invoice including a $1.00 Invoice fee. We have a Venmo account. Let us know if that would be something you would use. For Delivering Invoicing please make sure your account information is current.
- FROM THE MARKET….Calling ALL CRAFTERS: The Market is looking for Crafters that would be interesting in selling items through the upcoming Holiday Season on the Market or be added to the Market full time. These items would be made by you – no resellers. This is a great opportunity to showcase items that you make or build. Example: Jewelry – necklaces, bracelets, earrings or Pottery or Rugs or Scarves or Woodwork or Metal Work etc. Please contact us through the market email – or leave a voice message for the Manager and we will get back in contact with you.*
Blogs from a few of our Growers:
Oakview Farm: will have fresh okra, arugula, mustard and kale greens this week as we gear up for cooler weather. We are excited to announce that we will have a dried herbal tea blend (with lavender, chamomile, red clover, bee balm and mint) from herbs we have been drying in our greenhouse all Summer! It’s a perfect time of year for some soothing, hot tea!
Bean Man: Most requested Almond Flour, Cassava Flour, Brown Rice Flour and White Rice Flour is now available, the response has been awesome. Several folks who visited on Wednesday were made aware of the roll-out and we also reference recipes in the product descriptions on the our site as well as provide those recipes on the backs of the packages. Not to worry on the Almond Flour as an allergen, we have a separate facility where all processing, milling, testing a packaging is performed so those customers at risk are safe as that is a priority. All first time buyers will receive a copy of our recipe sheet in case they are looking for quality cooking ideas.
Quarter Spring Farm: we have a full selection of pasture raised chickens and chicken cuts. Our birds are grown in pasture, making them healthier and tastier than mass-produced, commercially raised chickens. We also have goat milk soaps and lotion bars available on the market. And we have updated our selection of reusable cloth napkins this week. Happy shopping :)

Sing Bee Honey: Fall is in the air! It is time for fall festivals, warm sweaters, and backyard fires. But, are you ready for cold and flu season? Honey has been shown to lessen symptoms of sore throat and suppress cough. Several studies have shown the benefits of honey when used for respiratory symptoms. You can read more with a quick search of WebMD or Mayo Clinic online. Recommended methods of taking honey include eating a spoonful of honey and allowing it to trickle down your throat as you slowly swallow or adding honey to a warm cup of tea. As a reminder, honey is not recommended for infants under 1 year of age. While honey is not a cure for the cold or flu, it can sure help make the symptoms more bearable. Honey is available in a number of sizes in both jars and convenient squeeze bottles. Stock up so you are ready for the winter season!

WE ARE SO BLESSED!!
There are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes every week to keep Market at Dothan going. I want to tell you about one of them this week.
Writing Checks
We choose to pay our farmers on delivery Friday mornings rather than wait a few days till all the payments have cleared (like the original locallygrown.net market in Athens, GA still does!). Doing it this way does have it’s risks but by God’s grace nothing has ever happened that we weren’t able to navigate.
This week I smiled because it’s the first time we’ve ever wrote checks to FIVE meat farmers in one week. FIVE.
How blessed are we to have that much clean nutritious protein available to us??
I hope you’re taking advantage of all the choices.
GROWER & MARKET NOTES
This & That: It was good to get away but it’s good to be back! It was a treat seeing Market regulars and some new faces yesterday and we were especially pleased to hear that the Fall Festival at Dothan Nurseries went so well in our absence. A hearty Thank You to our own
Dianne Herring who saw to organization and to all the vendors who participated and helped each other out.
On that note now would be a good time to announce some upcoming things:
1. First of all:
![2021-Thanksgiving](https://i.ibb.co/9bhxh6m/2021-Thanksgiving.jpg)
Our Thanksgiving week order cycle will run from Saturday Nov. 20 to Monday, Nov. 22. Pickup will be Wednesday, Nov 24, the day before Thanksgiving. This schedule was set so that those who have ordered fresh turkeys from Grows in Rows can pick them up, fresh and unfrozen, within 24 hours of butchering. You just can’t get fresher than that!
That being said, if you placed a deposit on one of Kathy’s turkeys, that’s the day to claim it!
2. (Drum Roll Please . . . .)
![2021-christmas-open-house](https://i.ibb.co/YZvqJZZ/2021-christmas-open-house.jpg)
Ordering Tip: Our vendors typically update their market inventory quantities every Saturday before 5 pm when the Market opens. Ordering right after opening helps you get those items with limited quantity. Once in a while however something will be listed during subsequent days. Some growers announce these additions on our Facebook Discussion Page. We encourage you to take a second look at the Market Page before closing on Tuesday at 5 pm just in case something’s been added that you would use.
Along the same topic, every once in a while a vendor will delete an item from your order after Market closes. Most of the time it’s weather related crop damage but other times it may be something that requires communication between grower and customer. We encourage this type of interaction and love it when issues can be worked out in advance of pickup.
