Dogwood Valley Greenhouse: It’s Christmas time in Tennessee! Well, not really, but it is time to put in your order for decorations from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse. This year I will be selling at Wildwood Christmas Tree Farm in Woodbury, and I want to be sure to reserve enough decorations for all my local friends.

So here is how this will work: prepay the total cost now, and reserve a delivery date. Note: it will be easier for me to fill your order on a later date. I promise I will not run out of wreaths and kissing balls, but it’s hard to make as many as are wanted early in the season. They should last about a month if outside, and will be just as beautiful after Christmas as before. Delivery will begin the first Wednesday of December and continue till all orders are filled. Order and pay now, pick up and enjoy in December. Coming in a month or so: Christmas cacti and African violets, both with foil florist pot wrap.

Honey has been shown to lessen symptoms of sore throat and suppress cough. Several studies have shown the benefits of honey when used for respiratory symptoms. You can read more with a quick search of WebMD or Mayo Clinic online. Recommended methods of taking honey include eating a spoonful of honey and allowing it to trickle down your throat as you slowly swallow or adding honey to a warm cup of tea. As a reminder, honey is not recommended for infants under 1 year of age. While honey is not a cure for the cold or flu, it can sure help make the symptoms more bearable. We primarily grow and harvest live plants during the warm, growing seasons and as the cold season returns, we dry and process the herbs, using the dormant period to create our herbal products. Time of year may affect what is readily available, but we will keep our list updated.

Lathemtown Farm Fresh Market:  Weblog Entry

This week we are trying to support a local talent. Ashley Griffin submitted herself in a talent competition and is trying to raise money for travel expenses. If you would like to help a young, local talent try to realize her dream you can purchase her family recipe pie and the proceeds go to her fund.

Our sweet potatoes are ready this week. they vary wildly in size and shape so orders may not be the perfect ovals! We will get as close to the 1/2 pound you desire.

We have added a third soup to the rotation from now on. Thanks for your feedback! If you have one you’d like to see offered, don’t hesitate to send requests!

Also, I will be heading to Buffalo next weekend for a wedding so there will be no market on 11/6.

Thanksgiving is on the horizon as well! I will have pies, appetizers, sides soups, and salads for preorder soon.

Thank you for your orders!

Champaign, OH:  Rainy Days and Mondays

No need for the lyrics…you can add your own song implant from the title…

It was definitely a rainy mess, yesterday, and now, looking out my windows, appears to have more of the same, in store, for today.

While the gloominess is a downer, it does help me with getting things done. It makes me stay in one place, inside, light candles, play music, and get some much needed tasks accomplished.

This song also brings back all those 70s vibes, with me singing into my hairbrush, pretending to be a famous songstress, up on her stage. I’ve had 70s vibes, all weekend, I guess, after a group that I am a part of, on social media, girls from my high school started a girls group, to always bolster, and empower, and encourage…quite nice, but ANYWAY, we also will post things like…remember this?

This weekend was about remembering our childhoods of the 70s, and playing with our Barbie collections. Sweet memories, funny to think about, now, but it was just such a feel good moment to think back to those carefree, rainy days, when Barbie was my best friend, and my entire room would become a technicolor playground of Barbie and her fashions and houses.

Feel good throwbacks are what I like to call these. So often, so much is forgotten, until something unlocks the fun memory.

This market, to me, is that feel good part of the week. And, while it’s only 10 years old, I do have all the early days of memories of this market, thinking that it would never get off the ground. But, here we are…thriving like never before.

It’s Monday, as my weblog title has stated, and you have all day to get your orders in, to begin your own feel good week.

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Market News

Fall seems to be the traditional time for wanting to go visit a farm, maybe to pick apples, or to find a good pumpkin, or to get lost in a corn maze. It’s true that most if not all of the agro-tourism spots nearby are conventional farms, but don’t let that stop you from safely paying them a visit, especially if you have children (or can borrow some for the day). So many kids think that their food supply begins at the grocery store, and farms are just something that they read about in picture books. Take them out and show them that farms are real things, that they’re worth visiting, and that they are near where they live. Farms shouldn’t be exotic places, relegated to storyland places like “The Dell” and “California”.

Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you at our market’s home on Tallassee Road!

We are still getting new customers every week (and we love seeing new faces!) so for all of you you can find a detailed run-down of how Thursdays go on our website here: https://athens.locallygrown.net/faq#7

Other Area Farmers Markets

If ALG doesn’t have everything you need, please support our growers at the other markets that are now back up and running, or at their own locations. The Comerian takes online orders for Saturday pickup at the bakery here: https://www.thecomerian.com/online-ordering. The Athens Farmers Market is holding their Saturday market once again in Bishop Park and Wednesdays at Creature Comforts. They’re still operating under pandemic rules, so you’ll want to read up on all the changes on their website, http://athensfarmersmarket.net. The West Broad Farmers Market is back, holding a drive through market just like us (and using my software too, so it’ll be nice and familiar). You can join them at https://wbfm.locallygrown.net. The Saturday market in Comer has also returned. They’re small, but sometimes an early Saturday drive to Comer is just what the soul needs. And of course Collective Harvest is going strong over at https://www.collectiveharvestathens.com.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!
