Weblog from some of our Grower’s:
Dogwood Valley Greenhouse:
I am back this week with limited quantities. I’ve missed you folks so much while my broken hand healed, but have been unable to prepare orders or even to drive for much of the past two months. But spring is peeping round the corner, relentlessly insisting that I make some daffodil bouquets available. I’m not really sure how many of the first blooms will be open by Wednesday, but I will fill as many orders as possible. Any that I am unable to fill are welcome to prepay for next week when I will be sure to have more. It seems to me as though they will be a bit shorter stemmed this year, but I might be wrong by the time they open.
I also have a very limited number of Pansy Planters and a few of the very early spring perennials – woodland phlox and some very special Lenten roses are in bloom. I also have several nice green & white striped spider plant baskets in the house.
I also have several nice green & white striped spider plant baskets in the house. And a few Christmas cacti are blooming a second time! They just help to make winter shorter.
Coming very soon: elderberry bushes dug from my own yard, creeping phlox in various colors, hens & chicks and other sedum plants. Spring is on the way!
Bean Man:
We now have our Fresh Gluten Free, Yeast Free, Vegan Sourdough Bread Mix available for you using our fresh flours – it’s a denser loaf but that taste will surprise you. Each package comes with 2 packs of Sourdough Dough Mix, 2 packs of Natural Starter Mix, Directions and 2 Brown Bags for our recommended storage method for 2 loaves of bread. You supply the wet ingredients including water, olive oil, honey, apple cider vinegar and ground flax seed (you can alternate ground chia seed for the flax if you prefer). The recipe makes a 2+ pound loaf which clocks in at 29 carbs, 4 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein per slice based on 12 slices per loaf (you can slice more but this is our basis) versus the normal 35 to 41 grams of carb per slice for other gluten free or regular sourdoughs. Always check the loaf weight and math when comparing carbs on bread – you might be surprised.
As always, we have our Fresh Beans, Mixes, Gluten Free Flours and Scottish Oatmeals as well as our other Ready to Mix products available including Buttermilk Pancakes, Pizza Crust, Refried Beans and Black Bean Dip with more to come.
Sow’s Ear Piggery:
We have added new pork cuts this week: Top Round and Bottom Round Roasts make the perfect meal for cold weather. Pork tenderloins have also been added. Pork stew meat, chops, ribs, pork sausage, and ground pork are always in stock, too. As always, this pork is from free-range. outdoor pigs fed non-GMO, non-corn, and non-soy diets. No antibiotics ever.

Oakview Farm:
We are welcoming Spring by offering you lots of fresh produce: salad greens mix (kale, spinach, mustard and lettuce); small white turnips; easter egg radishes; and, mustard greens! We also have our jams available this week, which go really well on toast: green tomato marmalade, apple butter, and cranberry port ginger jam. Be sure to check out our garlic-rosemary foccaccia bread; a perfect accompaniment to your favorite pasta dish.
Rus-T-Acres:
Along with our Delicious Farm Raised Eggs and Cuts of Beef we have added something a little different on the market – Bundles of Fire Wood!
Good sized bundles of mostly seasoned oak fire wood, split and wrapped. Sticks are cut approximately 24" long and the bundles weigh approximately 15-20LBS. Great for a bon fire, camp fire, or your fireplace.
A&J Naturale:
We have luxurious, whipped, Unscented moisturizer and also Lavender, these are hand crafted with locally sourced tallow. Tallow closely resembles the skin’s natural sebum so it can aid in the sealing in of moisture. Will replenish extremely dry, cracked skin. Can oil cleanse with it as face wash and remove make up safely and toxin free. I began making this product because my son had terrible diaper rashes and no prescribed or over the counter product seemed to be healing it or easing the pain caused by it. I began researching techniques of our ancestors.
Tallow has been used for centuries and with the exploding cosmetic industry it was quickly forgotten and traded for synthetic ingredients which saved money but ended up lacking all the healing properties you can only obtain from natural, toxin-free products. Ingredient list: 100% grass fed & finished tallow, organic coconut oil. Product is incredibly stable and does not need to be refrigerated Traditionally used to treat skin ailments – dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, rashes, warts, toe/foot fungi, etc.
Terry’s Treasures:
I have been making hand painted glass vases in a variety of colors. I can make any custom vase if you need a special color. They make a perfect gift filled with fresh flowers. Willing to ship for added cost.
Succulent and cactus gardens make great gifts for so many occasions. Birthdays, anniversary, office coworker, or just because. I have many different sizes and plants. So easy to take care of. Prices vary from $12 and up. Thank you for your support. It is well appreciated.
Barefoot Acres Herbs:
We are keeping busy, even in the winter. That’s the beauty of storing those dried herbs immediately after harvest. Our CBD with Anti-Inflammatory Herbs Salve is super fresh, along with the Healing and Respiratory Salves. Check out our other products. Glycerides have a shelf life of up to two years, while tinctures have been known to last 10 years under proper storage conditions. There are lots of yucky things going around right now; help support your body with Vitamin C Tincture and Elderberry Syrup.
Quarter Spring Farm:
Cold weather is hard on your skin. Protect your body’s largest organ with goat milk soap or lotion from quarter spring farm. We also have lots of delicious chicken to warm your belly on these cold winter days.
Body & Soul Teas:
I made a batch of Shoo-Flu this weekend. This blend combines, elderberry, hibiscus and red raspberry leaf, ginger and mints.
Whenever I am sick, I like to prepare several servings at a time and pour it into a thermal bottle so that the tea stays hot and I can sip it throughout the day. I also like to enjoy broths or soups; my favorite is Tom Yum soup (spice level 2 with extra ginger)
Pat’s Sore Throat Tea
Juice of half a lemon
1-2 dried sage leaves(can also use fresh, but maybe use just 1 leaf)
Fresh ginger, about 2t, chopped
8-12 oz water
Honey
Cayenne pepper(optional)
Add the water to a pot along with the above ingredients. Bring to boil. Cover and simmer 15-20 minutes. Strain and add honey to sweeten.
This is made to taste, so adapt ingredient accordingly. If I am using organic lemon, I will add chop up the lemon and add it to the mixture as well. I like ginger, so I add a little bit more than 2t. I add cayenne for it’s numbing effect. Just a dash will do ya! I like honey as a sweetener, not just because it taste good but because it has its own healing properties. Its soothing to the mucous membrane of the throat and fights germs. Did you know it was used in WW1 for wounds? And, when it comes to honey, local is best, so be sure to check out the Singing Bee honey available here on the market.
Everybody is different so if you are a person that is more warm/ natured, I would omit the sage, ginger and cayenne and add peppermint to the lemon and honey.
I also have herbal steams available. These are great for nasal congestion and coughs. Steep herbs in a Mason jar or pot or add them directly to hot water and drape your head with a towel to inhale the steam for 5-10 minutes.
May you be blessed body & soul! Pat Greene
Ewe and Me Creamery:
We have launched some new products for the market. We usually focused on sheep milk and dairy products, we now have sheep milk soap.
Currently we are starting Spring off with Sheep Milk Soaps.
Scents like Dusty Rose,
Kentucky Bourbon,
and Sensuous Sandalwood.
We also provide unscented soaps for those with sensitive skin. The soaps that are dotted have coffee grounds that make it very exfoliating. We will be milking in April. Hoping to have on the market for sheep milk around then.
Flying S Farms: Fresh Farm Eggs, Music Garlic, Jams and Jellies, and our popular 10" Cast Iron Skillet Yellow Cornbread. Stay tuned, more Jams and Baked items ‘COMING SOON’

WELCOME SCRAPPY CHIC!
If you’ve seen the beautiful fabric items in the What’s New box of the Market Page they are from our newest Vendor. We’re glad to welcome Vickie aboard and look forward to more of her creations.
“A lot has happened to bring us here and we are so thankful! First we moved close enough to be buyers from this wonderful market, then the opportunity came to be a vendor! I am a “Repurposer.” I love taking things headed for disposal and making useful items for home and family. I crochet rugs and baskets and bags primarily from recycled, repurposed fabric remnants. Thank you for the opportunity to show you my treasures!”
GROWER & MARKET NOTES
GOOD NEWS! Avalon Farms has relisted some of their products. They will be back in Alabama sometime next week and will be able to list available fresh products (hopefully to order next Saturday!) after they’ve returned and checked to see how everything is growing. Please continue to pray for their son as he recovers.
A very special Thanks to SHERRIE T who has covered our Enterprise deliveries in Wendy’s absence. SO BLESSED to work with such great folks!
Egg Notification: Chickens are Laying again! The ducks actually never stopped. Regardless, as the days have lengthened the girls have ramped up production and those of you who enjoy fresh eggs from our Growers know how good they are! Please be mindful when you order of the quantities available. If a listing says there are 2 dozen, don’t order 3 because you can’t squeeze more eggs out of them! Please email us ([email protected]) if you need more than is available as there’s a good chance someone in our Market family will have them. We’ll find them if they’re available!
We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

I’m sending this email out as we wait for the first sled dog teams to arrive in town from Marquette. They were expected earlier, but a blizzard warning last night slowed them down.
And on an entirely different note, we still have some microgreens, romaine, and even kale available to order this week. Grab these fresh greens before they run out!
