Welcome to what was another weather night for market pick up! There was wind, and cold, and rain, and then the freezing started…
Our new market slogan is, it’s Thursday, so it must be a weather day!!
Thank you, to all of you, for being so timely with your pick ups, those of you who took advantage of the early pick up, and to your constant support of this little local market endeavor.
I hope that you are all safely at home, curled up, warm, and enjoying your evening. I was able to get home, early, pour a glass of wine, turn on some tunes, light a few candles, and start dinner.
Thank you, always, for being the most amazing market customers!
I am now opening up the ordering for a new week of market fun!!
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
Miami County Locally Grown: Where does health begin?
Place your Virtual Market order here and enjoy being able to get fresh, local food all month long. (Actually all year long!)
Health begins in the mind—and the gut! As already described in the February 3rd post, the microbiome of the intestines, as in diversity thereof, is key to long term health. And of course what kinds of food we consume definitely affect the trillions of bacteria living in our gut. But ultimately it is our mind that decides what kinds of food we will consume. Not that food access and affordability are not serious social and economic problems—but that topic is for another post.
For those of us with the means, we do have choices about food. Having good information and being educated about nutrition and digestion is the starting point. But it is also about time management (e.g., for preparation and cooking), and many of us are on the verge of ‘time bankruptcy’. That’s probably the biggest impediment to eating right.
And so, understanding nutrition and digestion, along with good planning and time management, are prerequisites. But even before that, it seems there needs to be a great desire for good or better health, and the belief that it is possible—that we do in fact have some control over our health. The focus here is on preventable chronic diseases, such as diabetes and other digestive disorders, and to some extent cancer and heart disease. Not that genetic heritage is not a factor, but so too is food—for better or for worse.
A great many factors in addition to food affect long term health: genetics, stress management, physical activity, sleep and rest, social and family relationships, mental health and attitude. Some of these factors we have more control over than others, and perhaps the main one is food. My premise is that a quality diet is foundational and helps us manage the other factors a little better.

Champaign, OH: Market Reminder! Please Read!
Happy Market Pick Up Day!!
And…it looks like there could be some dicey weather moving in, right about pick up time, today!!
So, today, if you would like to get to the market, early, so that you can get home, you can text or call me, at 3pm, to see if your order is ready for pick up, and I can let you know to come on out!
If you cannot get there early, or by 4pm/5pm, and the weather looks like you don’t want to make the drive, there is the Friday pick up or the Saturday pick up!
But, today, with the weather, you can even come early, and that would be so groovy!!
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Miami County Locally Grown: We're open every week starting tonight!
Order here!
The Market is now open for ordering for the week. From now on, we won’t close the first week of the month – we’ll be open all month long.
Mardi Gras is coming up on March 1st, and Farmhouse Bakery is offering a limited number of King Cakes for the occasion. They look amazing!
Also, Bair Trax Dairy now has their certified organic beef (non-GMO, grass-fed, and soy-free) available in 28oz cans. I see an easy vegetable beef soup in my meal plan next week…

Grumpy Goat: Weblog Entry
We continue to wait on goat kids . I think they are just testing to see how many times we’ll wake up in one night to check on them. Luckily we have the barn camera hooked up so we don’t actually have to get out of bed to take a peek at all the mamas!
Besides anxiously waiting we’ve been busy with the 2022 syrup season! 3 fresh gallons have been bottled with more to come in a couple days. Last year we got 33 gallons bottled so we have our work cut out for us!
My mind is blanking on other farm news… probably because Matt just walked in with freshly made pizza off the grill! Time to eat! The market is open for orders. Get the greens early because we had to give some of them a rest this week- they are growing slow this time of year!
