Weblog from some of our Grower’s:
Quarter Spring Farm: We have all the delicious pasture raised chicken you need to kick those late winter blues. Our laying hens have gotten back to work for a change, so we have beautiful blue and brown chicken eggs on the market this week, too. And we have our usual selection of skin soothing soaps and luxurious lotions.
Bean Man: We trust everyone is safe and warm with the wild weather we’ve had this week. There’s nothing like a healthy, hearty breakfast and we all need options. New this week is our Oat Flour Pancake Mix – each package contains 3 packs – each of which contains the dry ingredients to make 9+ six inch pancakes (or you can make them larger). All you need is milk and an egg. We have also suggestions for a vegan alternative using almond milk and an arrowroot substitute for the egg. This Ready to Mix offering compliments our Scottish Oatmeals as well as our Buttermilk Pancake Mix to give you three great choices. If you follow our social media, this week we showed a picture of the Oat Flour Pancakes as well as one of our Scottish Oatmeal with sliced bananas as a different twist on breakfast. All of these are quick and easy to make.
As always, we have our Fresh Dry Beans and Mixes (don’t forget the Chili MIx for the cold weather), Gluten Free Flours and our Gluten Free Ready to Mix products including Black Bean Dip, Refried Beans and Sourdough Bread (all three of these are vegan as well). Don’t forget our Pizza Crust Mixes for some great gluten free alternatives including one which is vegan.
Oakview Farm: We have plenty of fresh items on sale this week: Hakurei turnips, Easter Egg radishes, and Salad Greens Mix! We also have our sourdough pretzels back on the market; they are delicious eaten by themselves or dipped in stone ground mustard. Don’t forget about our unique jam flavors: Green Tomato Marmalade, Cranberry Port, and Rum Raisin. Our favorite is the Green Tomato Marmalade; the acidity of the late-season green cherry tomatoes and lemon zest and rind is complemented by the fresh thyme and brown sugar; perfect for toasted bread or on a grilled pork chop!
Dogwood Valley Greenhouse: I am back this week with limited quantities. I’ve missed you folks so much while my broken hand healed, but have been unable to prepare orders or even to drive for much of the past two months. But spring is peeping round the corner, relentlessly insisting that I make some daffodil bouquets available. I’m not really sure how many of the first blooms will be open by Wednesday, but I will fill as many orders as possible. Any that I am unable to fill are welcome to prepay for next week when I will be sure to have more. It seems to me as though they will be a bit shorter stemmed this year, but I might be wrong by the time they open.
I also have a very limited number of Pansy Planters and a few of the very early spring perennials – woodland phlox and some very special Lenten roses are in bloom. I also have several nice green & white striped spider plant baskets in the house.
I also have several nice green & white striped spider plant baskets in the house. And a few Christmas cacti are blooming a second time! They just help to make winter shorter.
Coming very soon: elderberry bushes dug from my own yard, creeping phlox in various colors, hens & chicks and other sedum plants. Spring is on the way!
Sow’s Ear Piggery: We have added new pork cuts this week: Top Round and Bottom Round Roasts make the perfect meal for cold weather. Pork tenderloins have also been added. Pork stew meat, chops, ribs, pork sausage, and ground pork are always in stock, too. As always, this pork is from free-range. outdoor pigs fed non-GMO, non-corn, and non-soy diets. No antibiotics ever.
Mama D’s Bakery: Hi everyone! We have everything available this week…

Hummingbird Cake (with a gluten/dairy free option too),

Rus-T-Acres: Along with our Delicious Farm Raised Eggs and Cuts of Beef we have added something a little different on the market – Bundles of Fire Wood!
Good sized bundles of mostly seasoned oak fire wood, split and wrapped. Sticks are cut approximately 24" long and the bundles weigh approximately 15-20LBS. Great for a bon fire, camp fire, or your fireplace.
A&J Naturale: We have luxurious, whipped, Unscented moisturizer and also Lavender, these are hand crafted with locally sourced tallow. Tallow closely resembles the skin’s natural sebum so it can aid in the sealing in of moisture. Will replenish extremely dry, cracked skin.
Terry’s Treasures: I have been making hand painted glass vases in a variety of colors. I can make any custom vase if you need a special color. They make a perfect gift filled with fresh flowers. Willing to ship for added cost.
Succulent and cactus gardens make great gifts for so many occasions. Birthdays, anniversary, office coworker, or just because. I have many different sizes and plants. So easy to take care of. Prices vary from $12 and up. Thank you for your support. It is well appreciated.
Barefoot Acres Herbs: We are keeping busy, even in the winter. That’s the beauty of storing those dried herbs immediately after harvest. Our CBD with Anti-Inflammatory Herbs Salve is super fresh, along with the Healing and Respiratory Salves. Check out our other products. Glycerides have a shelf life of up to two years, while tinctures have been known to last 10 years under proper storage conditions. There are lots of yucky things going around right now; help support your body with Vitamin C Tincture and Elderberry Syrup.
Flying S Farms: Fresh Farm Eggs, Music Garlic, Jams and Jellies, and our popular 10" Cast Iron Skillet Yellow Cornbread. Stay tuned, more Jams and Baked items ‘COMING SOON’ did a bread slicer overhaul, it is almost put back together – now where did this bolt go?? LOL The Sweet Bread Starter is getting very bubbly and happy and Our Sour Dough Starter is doing the same, today is feeding day! FEED ME – Seymour – FEED ME! (Little Shop of Horrors, 1986)
Quinn’s Mercantile: We have SPECIALS on several of our Clothing Items. We are always receiving new items each week, we have several great Spring clothing items and gifts. Many of our local products proudly represent Murfreesboro and Tennessee.
Bluhen Farm: We will be in taking a brief break for this month of February. We hope to be back early March. The cold weather and lack of sun have hit us hard this winter.
Five White Oak: I was hoping to back on the Market with my items but unfortunately still requiring more rest and healing time. A quote from her Dad…this is just for now not forever!

Locally Grown STT: Market Member Benefits this week!
Want to recycle and just haven’t been able to so far?
Well it just so happens we partnered with a volunteer group who collects them at the market pick up on Thursdays for our market members!
We paused it due to the Omicron wave a few weeks ago but have resumed.
So you can now bring your plastics and aluminum to Market on Thursdays. One major request this time though: you have to follow the guidelines or they will not be accepted. The volunteers have expressed some are still not following the rules so here they are again. We want to make sure this works for them as well as us so they can keep doing this with us. So thanks in advance for re-reading these.
Here are the guidelines of what they can accept:
-We accept all plastic drink bottles:
sports, water, soda, juice, milk.
-All caps must be removed from bottles, it is ok to place caps in same bag but must be removed from bottles.
-NO black plastic containers, caps, or bags accepted.
-NO plastic food containers or wrappers.
-Kindly rinse bottles especially milk and soda containers.
-Kindly bring your items in clear plastic bags.
We also accept all aluminum for recycling.
And on another note: we are now accepting kitchen food scraps for some of our livestock farmers. If interested in this feature, message us because we are only able to take a few buckets. You can pick up your free small kitchen scrap buckets at the next market pick up day.
What can we take?
- pieces of fruits, vegetables, greens, cooked rice, cooked veggies.
What we CANNOT take?
- definitely no meat, eggs, raw potatoes or potatoe skins, dairy
So when you are cutting up that cabbage or Bok Choy or carrots, etc, toss them in the kitchen scrap buckets and drop off at the farmers market.
If you chose to keep bucket out of fridge, only start collecting one day before the market.
If you chose to keep scraps in fridge, then you can start collecting 3-4 days before market day.
Thank you for using the market!

This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!
PICKUP TIME is Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m.

Miami County Locally Grown: Last day to order for the week!
Shop from our Virtual Market where you’ll find some microgreens and Swiss chard still available to snag for this week!
Last weekend my family headed north to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, to a small town on Lake Superior, to watch the sled dog races. It’s a whole different world up there, especially during winter. Everybody looks prepared for the weather, and the few tourists that have never experienced this event stand out with their hoodless coats and slim-fitting pants and boots. Most people wear snow pants and you see a lot of fur hats and even mittens made out of coyote fur. Snow drifts are as high as one-story houses.
As we drove up north, we watched the temperature reading on the car drop degree by degree. The Straits of Mackinac were frozen all the way across, which was a sight to see. As we drove over the bridge we could see where an ice breaker had gone through, presumably to make a path for cargo liners.
And ice-fishing! Some fishermen even have tents and fires surrounding their fishing holes in the town bay. How is feet and feet of snow and ice cozy? I don’t know, but it is.
It’s also a huge hub for snowmobiling in this part of the U.P. I could do without the incessant vroom of all them in town, but boy are they fun! A quieter, electric snowmobile would be ideal, since one of the magical qualities of all that snow is the cushioned silence that envelops you.
And then of course, watching the races! It’s fun to see and listen to the mushers as they talk to their teams. We stay at a friend’s house as our place isn’t winterized (although my sister and her husband braved it, melting snow to flush the toilet…), and the teams come down a hill and into town right in front of her house. There are three races over the weekend, with names that sound as fun as being up there: the UP200, Jack Pine 30, and Midnight Run…and that’s a little glimpse into a different world for you!
