Miami County Locally Grown:  Spinach, Eggs, and Monarchs, oh My!!

My kids loved it, and were then inspired, when we were harvesting Milkweed pods, to offer the seeds to their “Market friends” :-)

Beautiful favorites of many pollinators, including the American Monarch, we’ll have Milkweed seeds available for anyone interested at pick-up!!

This week the Market sees the return of Simple Living Farm’s Spinach, and next week their sweet Carrots will be back!!

More Eggs are available this week, even though the hens’ production is dropping, whether from the cold, the diminishing sunlight, or this being the time for them to molt (and when they lose their feathers, they don’t lay eggs!! Ah!!

Lake Placid Online Farmer's Market:  October Market

Hello everyone,

I just returned yesterday late evening from my grandmother’s funeral, so apologies for not sending a message sooner. Friday was supposed to be the day the market opened, but I have not heard from the farmers about continuing, so I did not want to open it without knowing for sure that we would have it. When I hear back from them I will send out a notice.

Foothills Market:  Foothills Market is Offline This Week

Since the University of the Ozarks (the home of the Food for Thought garden) is on fall break during our regular pick-up time, Foothills Market is also taking a break this week. We’ll be back next week, though!

GFM :  Final Seasonal Markets

Halloween is just around the corner.  And so is the farmers market.  Located at the Doak House Museum.

October 20 will be a big day at The Doak House Museum. It’s their “Autumn Harvest Day Celebration” Come learn how to make Corn Husk Dolls, write with a quill pen, how to make butter, Optical Illusions Toy Tutorial, and more.

The Greeneville Farmers Market will also be open on October 20, with produce, baked goods, crafts and more available.

Our final physical market of the season will be October 27^th, “Our Halloween Bash”

There will be contest for the kids. Enter your handmade Scarecrow, Painted Pumpkin or just enter the costume contest.  You will find the application online at our website.  All entries must be received no later than 5 pm. October 24.

We will have a wide range of vendors, artisans, farmers, bee keepers, direct sales vendors and more available at the October 27 market.

Still time get some early Christmas shopping done at this market. One of a kind, unique gifts for that special someone.

Champaign, OH:  Intro to new vendors, Kennedy Farms?

Kennedy Farms is a small-scale farm run by two people, who are dedicated to growing, and raising food in a sustainable humane way. The farm is solar powered, and off grid. Over the past 3 years we have lovingly built a flourishing farm eco-system that includes our animals, bees, flowers, vegetables and wild inhabitants. We go beyond using organic methods in our quest to build an example of a sustainable agriculture system that is kind to the environment, and works with the existing eco-system, rather than trying to change it to suit our purpose and needs. If you see it in our market booth, we raised it with our own two hands without the use of heavy machinery.

Your support is what we depend on for the future of our farm, and the planet we all share. Recently, we have received lots of questions about our farm, and thought that you the consumer would like to know more about what we do, how we do it, and how that compares to other producers. If you buy from us at market you are getting the very best that we have to offer, and we are always working to do better!

At Kennedy Farms all of our hens live a life in the sunshine on green pastures. We rotationally graze our ladies using two large mobile chicken coops. They are an important part of our farm eco-system. Pecking and scratching through our pasture helps maintain the area for our other animals, and their rich manure is about all the fertilizer our plants need. They get up to 25% of their diet from our pasture, and we feed them a NON GMO supplemental feed to keep them healthy and happy.
