Champaign, OH:  Love Potion #9

She’s got a storefront
At Thirty-Fourth and Vine
Selling little bottles of
Love potion number nine…
(Love Potion Number Nine-the Clovers/The Searchers)

Just another fun little tune to add to our Halloween playlist, right here, on this little local market of love. We have so much love to offer that we don’t need a magical potion, but we certainly do have a lot of magic in our little place in the community!!

And, you know, I just can’t go anywhere, these days, without people asking about this market, wanting more info, loving that they already use the market, and complimenting it!!

I even was at a party, last night, and chatted up a girl who works at Old Souls Farm!! She was showing me pictures of their very impressive operation, and all that they do, beyond our market!! It was fun to randomly fall upon another connection to this market. A love connection…and, one that doesn’t require a magic potion…it’s already magic!

It’s a rather chilly Sunday morning, and perfect for taking some time to get your orders in!!

XOXO,

Cosmic Pam

CLG:  Tamales! Opening Bell: Honey, Ghost Peppers, Buffalo, Sweet Potatoes!

Good afternoon!

Fall weather signals the near end of summer vegetables, but just the beginning for others. This afternoon I finished planting 700 garlic cloves that will become 700 large organic garlic bulbs in June 2019! I also planted 36 cloves in 2" pots so you can grow some garlic in your garden or flower bed. I have grown over 20 varieties of garlic over the years, but now I only grow this variety because it does so well in our climate. Very hardy and tasty!

Buffalo items have just been listed by Ratchford Farms. There’s also a good supply of beef bones for bone broth.

Thanks a lot to Strack Farm for being the extra tomatoes, lettuce and turnips on Friday!

Now is the perfect time to plant perennial flowers that will bloom for years, starting next spring. We have plenty of old-fashioned Hellebores, Shamrock, Red, Yellow, Purple, and Cream Coneflowers, beautiful magenta-flowered rose Campion, white Bee Balm and others. Search PLANT to see everything that’s available now.

This Friday, Doña Estela and her amazing homemade Tamales! She will make them Friday morning and have them at market Friday afternoon. They will be 5 for $7 in 3 flavors: Pork, Chicken, or Jalapeño & Cheese (Organic Jalapenos from Cedar Rock Ridge). To place an order, please add a note to your CLG order, or text me at 501-339-1039. Delicious with sides of refried beans and rice, topped with a bit of salsa and sour cream. They freeze very well so get some for several meals.

Be sure to SEARCH for your favorite items using the search field. About 500 items available now!

Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!

And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders. Click here to start shopping:

Please check your email a few minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thank you!

Farm News of the Week

Molly Cornelison of Kountry Vittles Baked Goods writes:
Fall weather has peeked its head, so now it’s time to introduce a new item. This is my Flavorful Herb Bread. This yeast bread also contains onions, parsley and oregano. It goes great with any pasta dish, soup or stew. Give it a try this week!

Andra Martens of Sow’s Ear Piggery sends this note:
Deer hunters! Do you need pork fat for making your venison sausage? Sow’s Ear Piggery has 4-6-pound packages of pork back fat available. Our heritage breed pigs receive no antibiotics, hormones, or animal by-products. We use this fat for our household cooking oil, which renders almost pure white. USDA inspected. Comes frozen.

Also for sale, we have bratwurst sausages, which are perfect on a cool fall night. Or maybe a pot of chili using ground pork! Have breakfast for dinner with a package of pork breakfast sausage. We also have beautiful belly sides, in two sizes. Check out these and other cuts in the Market pages.

(L to R) top:
Back fat, Bratwurst sausage.
middle:
Whole side (belly), medium breakfast sausage.
bottom:
Ground pork, tenderized pork cutlet.

From Dogwood Valley Greenhouse:

We’re a bit disappointed that no one seems to know the answer to this riddle. Come on, give it a try. You may know more about insects than you think!

Riddle: What will this caterpillar grow into?
Bonus: What kind of plant is it on?

All correct answers will be acknowledged in the next edition of the newsletter.

This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!
