Old99Farm Market:  Pork Butchering Workshop tomorrow Sat 24th 2pm

Hi y’all, last minute reminder and alert there is still space in our workshop tomorrow afternoon.
Have you ever wondered how the various meat cuts are designated on a pig? Do you prefer butt chops or loin chops? Are they the same? (no)
Come out tomorrow for 2pm start. We’ll be inside the store if it’s nasty weather, or set up in the courtyard if not.
It’s gusty and maybe rain cloudbursts this evening but I just checked its very likely a clear day tomorrow aft.

We did the slaughtering and cleaning on Wednesday so you don’t have to worry about ‘is this kid friendly’. It is.
We’ll be prudent about social distancing and masks please.

I’d like a donation per family to cover the cost of the butcher, Jamie Waldron, formerly of Cumbraes of Dundas "Simply the best butcher in Ontario….which means it’s the best meat, butched perfectly, with great staff. Now he’s on his own as a custom butcher.
Just in case we have a last minute rush, please call or email me your intention to come. Last requests will be declined if we have more than 10 people.
We have pork for sale, but not this particular animal because it was not slaughtered with an Inspector present.

Market stays open from Fridays 9 p.m. until at least 9 p.m. Mondays!

Thank you for choosing Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as a way to support your local producers. This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!

PICKUP TIME is Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m.

If you do not get an email ORDER CONFIRMATION right after you order then your order is NOT complete. Log back in and your order might still be there waiting for you to check out! If you have any trouble or questions at all, we are here to help; simply reply to this email.

COVID19: Northeast Georgia Locally Grown will continue to help bring the best selection of local and chemical-free foods to you and your family as long as our volunteers feel comfortable and safe. Thanks for recognizing we can all do our part in operating in the safest way possible for upcoming markets. We are and will continue to operate under CDC and local guidelines to the best of our ability and knowledge. Be on the lookout for the order reminder email with any changes to pickup or ways you can help minimize risk for our volunteers and each other. Thanks for your support!

Good evening!

Pesticide-free Christmas trees and wreaths are now available to pre-order! All proceeds from these sales go directly to the Market!

Upcoming Schedule Changes and Announcements:

Starting November, 6th, we’ll be changing our Market pickup time to 3-6 pm. (While we do run year-round, things tend to slow down a bit at this time of year and we have decided to condense pickup times as a means of reducing operating costs).

On Thanksgiving week, we’ll have a Wednesday, November 25th pickup from 3-6 pm instead of a Friday pickup.

In December, we’ll have a Market pickup on Wednesday, December 23rd, as opposed to Friday, December 25th.

We are tentatively planning two outdoor Holiday Markets! We hope to be in Town Park Friday, November 27th and Saturday, December 5th with our craft vendors and pre-ordered pesticide-free Christmas trees and wreaths! Stay tuned for details.

Thanks again and happy shopping!

Champaign, OH:  Sweet Thing

And I will stroll the merry way
And jump the hedges first
And I will drink the clear
Clean water for to quench my thirst
And I shall watch the ferry-boats
And they’ll get high
On a bluer ocean
Against tomorrow’s sky
And I will never grow so old again
And I will walk and talk
In gardens all wet with rain…
(Van Morrison)

Probably one of my very favorite of his songs. Off of one of my oldest, and most cherished albums, Astral Weeks.

Van Morrison music is perfect, it’s every moment music. It’s what I usually turn to, early evenings, lighting candles, and getting dinner prep happening, wine poured, a bit of writing accomplished, and as the sunlight fades to dusk, this is my music of that time of day.

It brings about the same easy feeling of comfort, as this market brings to me. And, all of the customers bring to me. Most of you are no longer customers, though, you have become somewhat of an extended family, each week, meeting up for chat time, laughs, tales of sadness, tales of happiness. The ease of sharing in your lives is something I look forward to, each and every week.

As we draw closer to the end of the month, we will see the fade out of much of the produce, but hopeful that the late season items will continue with the fall squash, kale, chard….the Flourish girls think we have seen the last of the fresh florals, but are working on things like houseplants, to continue to bring that little bit of colorful joy.

Comfort items are taking front and center at the market, and holiday shopping will begin.

Our own little local market, our own little sweet thing of joy, all in the form of goodness, and nourishment for your soul…

The market is open, new items seem to be added, daily, and we look forward to your weekly love….

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Martin's Farmstand:  Chickens

There are lots of tomatoes available today including canner tomatoes. (protected from the early frost) The garden is full of all the greens such as spinach, kale, lettuce, Brussel sprouts, etc. The potato harvest is finished. I have about 10 tons here in storage. Anytime now is time to get your winters supply. Today while it is warm we are expecting to finish planting the garlic and to lift the glad bulbs.
The Andy Yoder family is raising a batch of broiler chickens. They will be here at the stand selling them from noon to 4:30 pm today. They are also planning to be here with chicken on Oct 30 and Nov 6. Prices are $2.75 per lb Bulk prices are $2.50 for 10 + and $2.25 per lb for 25 + birds. Larger amounts need to be pre ordered and prepaid.
Summer hours on the stand will continue till Thanksgiving. In December we will also be open with reduced hours. I am not sure what that schedule will be yet. Daniel
