Statesboro Market2Go:  Have you ordered yet?

Have you ordered yet? Help keep the market going. .

Even as we anxiously await the results of our national election today, there is another important issue that needs your attention. The Market2Go, which has offered a safe haven for grocery shopping since the pandemic began in March, is now in need of your help. We’ve invested heavily in a system that links you, our customers, directly to local farmers and makers, offering online ordering and easy drive-through pickup or home delivery of your orders. At current order levels, the Market2Go is no longer economically sustainable.

How can you help?

  1. Order regularly from the market, so we can return to “break-even” levels of sales.
  2. Encourage your friends and family to place orders.
  3. As often as possible, while you’re on the market site, go to the “Market Contributions” category and donate what you can to help sustain the market.

Many of you are helping already. Thank you to all our loyal customers for your orders and your generous contributions.

Old99Farm Market:  Week of 1 November 2020

“We cooked the Cross Rib roast we bought last week and it was the best beef we’ve ever tasted. So much flavour and it made great sandwiches for work the next day. We will definitely be coming back for more!”

“We did up those pork chops on the BBQ for Sunday dinner. They were so flavourful and moist! How did you guys do that? By far the best pork I’ve ever had!”

Hey folks. Have you tried our pasture raised, grass fed beef and pork yet? The quotes above are from two of our new customers who did recently.

We also have plenty of veggies available like kale, collard greens, Swiss chard, tropeana onions, bulb onions, health kick salad mix, choi sum, beets, turnips, sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, carrots and much more! Also available are our delicious free range eggs (white and brown mixed) that we get too many compliments about to list here. You will have to try them for yourself to taste the difference! And yes, the white eggs are exactly the same as the brown eggs. They all live together, eat the same food and scratch the same dirt for bugs and worms.

We also have plenty of pastured chicken available in whole, halves and quarters which are perfect for any size family or feast.
Grass and hay fed rabbits are now available, please check quantities in the market. If you’re wondering how to cook rabbit or what it tastes like; think of chicken. Yes, rabbit has very similar texture to chicken with a lighter, more delicate taste and significantly less fat and cholesterol. Any recipe for chicken is totally interchangeable with rabbit. Cooking temperature and times are the same and will result in a meal sure to please everyone.

Please remember to place your order BEFORE 7 AM Thursday morning. Orders placed after this time may not be processed.
Market pickup times are Thursday and Friday from 3PM to 6PM.
Special arrangements for pickup can be made for Saturday; please contact Nick at 519-755-0577 to arrange a time.

Thank you all for supporting your local organic farm. We look forward to seeing everyone again this week.

Be well,
Nick & Angela

This week we’re excited to announce our two new vendors, Mill Creek Farms and Nutty H Pecan, who are bringing a southern favorite to the market — pecans!

If you’re going nuts trying to think what you can do with pecans, then consider trying:

  • Putting them in a salad
  • Using them as a topping on your yogurt, ice cream, or oatmeal
  • Making Pecan Butter
  • Mixing them into waffle batter
  • Adding them to a breading mixture to give your chicken some extra crunch

(The Mamas and The Papas)

For as long as I can remember, this song has always ushered in November for me.

When I was very young, you could hear this song playing on one of the older brothers or sisters, or even a parental stereo. When I was in college, and stepping out in November, to walk the campus, all day, going class to class, this was always in my mental playlist.

One of my oldest, best, and lifetime of adventures friend since 3rd grade, used to ride bikes with me, all over the countryside part of the West End. We would talk music, life, and always had a plan that we would trek off to California to open up some sort of communal living place, follow the Grateful Dead, etc. We got older, he went off to the coast guard, I went off to college, we both went our own way, and for a super long period of time, never even chatted. Years and years later, we all reconnected at one of our West End pal’s wedding, and my childhood pal was there, and we began laughing it up, like no years had passed. He is still my very best of pals, and this song still reminds me of those California plans of starting our own community.

Maybe that’s why I love this song so much. It reminds me of this market, building it’s own little community of friendship, sharing, food, and bonding.

I actually did move off to the California dream, right out of college. I was determined to keep my part of the plan. I lived in apartments in Venice Beach, Westwood, and for a short stint, Malibu…and, along the way, collected the most eclectic cast of characters, making for an extended family of friends.

Enjoy this brisk November day, on this first Monday of November. This month is about sharing, drawing in on your own circle of family and friends, and giving thanks for all that has come into your life.

The market is seeing a record week, only on a Monday. You are all catching that same market feeling that I have. Keep the orders rolling in, and you have until tomorrow evening, at 8pm.

California dreamin’ on such a winter’s day…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

So here is how this will work: prepay the total cost now, and reserve a delivery date. Note: it will be easier for me to fill your order on a later date. I promise I will not run out of wreaths and kissing balls, but it’s hard to make as many as are wanted early in the season. They should last about a month if outside, and will be just as beautiful after Christmas as before. Delivery will begin the first Wednesday of December and continue till all orders are filled.
