Stones River Market:  REMINDER -- Market is OPEN until 10pm

Sending you a reminder you still have time to place or add to your existing order for the Stones River Locally Grown Online Farmers Market Market closes tonight at 10pm.

Here is some news from our Growers:

C&M Valley Farms
We have a new item in our inventory.
QUAIL EGGS
Have you ever ate a quail egg, you don’t know what you are missing! Delicious in an omelet, egg salad, pudding or over easy.

Quail eggs are small, so three to four of them roughly equate to the serving size of one chicken egg.

For being so small, these eggs are surprisingly rich in nutrients.

One quail egg (9 grams) contains a significant chunk of your daily vitamin B12, selenium, riboflavin, and choline needs, along with some iron — all in a serving that contains only 14 calories.

Selenium and riboflavin are important nutrients that help your body break down the food you eat and transform it into energy. Selenium also helps ensure healthy thyroid function.

Meanwhile, vitamin B12 and iron promote healthy nervous system function and help maintain optimal energy levels through their roles in red blood cell formation).

In addition, choline is vital to helping your body make acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that sends messages from your nervous system to your muscles.

One quail egg contains only 14 calories but is rich in a variety of vitamins and minerals, including selenium, riboflavin, vitamin B12, and choline.

Champaign, OH:  Monday Cosmic Trivia!

Good morning!! Ready to get that Monday groove going? It’s supposed to be a sunshine day moving us into a sunshine week!! Yay!!

Don’t forget to get those orders in!! You have until tomorrow morning, at 8am, to get all of the market goodness!!

And…an update reminder…if you are ordering Cosmic soups, and/or frozen dinners and pizzas from Hippie and the Farmer, this is the last week for this month’s menu! Thursday will reopen with the new menu for March! Don’t miss out on any favorites, this week!

And…I cannot let a week go by without a trivia question to win a free Cosmic product, as we work our way into May’s celebration month of our 10 year anniversary!!

Ok!! Way, way back in the early days of Cosmic Charlie, I kicked off my bread journey with debuting at area farmers’ markets. Like…I was the queen of multiple farmers’ market, all while also baking for retail locations and the first coffeehouse gig.

But, one of the area markets was my favorite! I co-managed it, first, with JC Growers, Carla Miller. I then took over as manager when her term was over. Which outdoor farmers market was it?

One winner, this week!! And, you must be an ordering customer!!

I’ll be excited to see the answers!!

Now, go, order, and have a great start to your week!!

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

On Thursdays: Here’s a map.

Market News

Today was just beautiful, a brief respite before we get another few days of rain. If you, like me, took advantage of the blue skies today to do some gardening, don’t let the balmy afternoons we’ve been getting fool you. There are several more frosts ahead of us, no doubt, starting with possibly a bit of a freeze this coming weekend. Garden centers will be happy to sell you tomato plants this time of year, but keep them indoors for a while. There’s nothing outdoors they like right now.

Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you at our market’s home on Tallassee Road!

We are still getting new customers every week (and we love seeing new masked faces!) so for all of you you can find a detailed run-down of how Thursdays go on our website here: https://athens.locallygrown.net/faq#7

Other Area Farmers Markets

If ALG doesn’t have everything you need, please support our growers at the other markets that are now back up and running, or at their own locations. The Comerian takes online orders for Saturday pickup at the bakery here: https://www.thecomerian.com/online-ordering. The Athens Farmers Market aims both taking a few weeks off, but they’ll return soon. The West Broad Farmers Market is back, holding a drive through market just like us (and using my software too, so it’ll be nice and familiar). You can join them at https://wbfm.locallygrown.net. The Culinary Kitchen of Athens has started a socially distanced winter market, Saturdays from 11am to 2pm at Hendershots on Prince. And of course Collective Harvest is going strong over at https://www.collectiveharvestathens.com.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Champaign, OH:  Sunday Evening Tunes

Just about a year ago
I set out on the road
Seekin’ my fame and fortune
Lookin’ for a pot of gold
Things got bad and things got worse
I guess you will know the tune…

Oh Lord, stuck in on Lodi up again…
(Creedence Clearwater Revival)

Good evening, lovely market customers!

I just lit candles, poured a glass of wine, and have had this song on my brain since I woke up, this morning.

Maybe it’s the first verse that made me stop and think that just about a year ago we started down this pandemic path. Right when all of my directions and paths and business plans were headed for that pot of of gold, we all got thrown a complete curve ball. Things quickly went from bad to worse. They went from easy street to what the bloody hell???

But, also in this year, I really do think we all hit a pot of gold, when we reinvented this online market, so many of you lovely friends joined the market journey, and look at us all now. We continue to see this market get stronger and stronger! We are celebrating our 10th year! You all have become family to me! And, the vendors have built such tight knit bonds, that some weeks, I am moved to tears.

So, when the times got tough, we got tougher…and here we are…but, not stuck in Lodi, we are thriving in Champaign!

Go ahead, take some time, and get your orders ready! I’m ready to see all of you, again, on Thursday!!

And, check out new vendors, and new favorite products from old vendors! We’ve got it all, just for you!

Also, I will be tossing you a Cosmic Trivia Question, tomorrow!! Get ready!

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
