Champaign, OH: Dancing Days AND Cosmic Trivia!
Dancing days are here again,
As the summer evenings grow.
I got my flower, I got my power…
(Led Zeppelin)
I don’t know about you, but in the time frame of my growing up, this song just always signaled sunshine weather, driving around with windows down, 70s stereos blasting, house parties when parents were away…and, just the anticipation that fun, sun, and party were on the way.
Last night’s market, while on the brisk side, had the hint that sun and fun are on their way, again!! You could just feel that dancing days are on the way.
Another sign of spring, if you were part of the pick up line, last night, is the addition of the large, vintage windows in the expansion part of the greenhouse. In true local, community, brotherhood spirit, the windows were donated to the market via Dr. Dave, at Freshwater Farms, in exchange for a bit of Oakview bacon! The market is like that…helping hands, some trading, some community love. The market continues to grow, as does the spirit that binds it all together!
Also, next Thursday will be the one year point where we completed our last market at the YMCA. The world then closed up, dancing days were sadly put on hold, and we quickly had to regroup, rethink, and regroove the market.
And…look at us now. So big, so bright, so strong…all things to dance about!
Now…for my Cosmic trivia! Last week’s answer to my question about which area farmers’ market did I used to manage, along with this market, was…The Mechanicsburg Farmers and Artisans market! Back the in day. Good times! The trivia winner was Marcia Cope!
This week’s Cosmic trivia question is this….
My very first concert was when I was in 7th grade. What band did I see? The concert was part of our grade school’s very fun, many field trips, from the West End. I’m still unclear how our parents let us all head off to a concert, but hey…it was the 70s!
All answers are fun guesses!! It’s so fun to get all of your attempts!!
And…the Hippie and the Farmer March menu, along with the Cosmic soup menu will all be posted, this evening!!
Have a great dancing day…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Martin's Farmstand: Farmstand open this afternoon
It is wonderful to see tiny plants sprout and grow. It is wonderful to smell thousands of little plants in a greenhouse. The onions that were planted last week are all coming up and growing. If you come out to the stand in the next month or so take a peak through the curtain. The produce washing area to the side of the stand has become a greenhouse full of plants. For those of you that like numbers there are 175 flats of onion seedlings. There was about 725 seeds put in each flat with an expected population of 500-600 plants that will get transplanted out to the field at the end of April. Normal yield potential is about 200-250 lbs of onions per flat. I expect to put about half or 2/3s of these onions into my garden. (some are being started for other growers)
The farm stand is open this afternoon from 12:30 pm till 5 pm. We just received another pallet of bulk foods (oatmeal, flour sugar, spices, peanuts etc.) so come and get it. There is also a normal late winter selection of produce. Daniel

Grumpy Goat: 2021 Syrup is here!!!
We’ve finally been able to add the first of our 2021 maple syrup to the market. 4.375 gallons have been bottled this week with more to come tomorrow. I don’t think we will reach the 33 gallons bottled in 2020 due to the extended cold in February and what looks like might be a quick warm up in March. Time will tell.
Along with manning our sugar shack we have also been prepping our seed beds in the garden and have been glued to our barn cam awaiting the arrival of our goat kids. Still none yet but they can’t hold out forever!
We’ll make sure we let you all know when the store front is open again (we haven’t made much progress yet). Hopefully in April, but for now please continue to pre-order and pick up on Tuesdays! Thanks for your patronage!
