Foothills Market:  The Market is Open!

The frosts we’ve had lately have brought an end to some of the summer favorites, but Foothills Market still has fresh vegetables. This is a good time to be picking up the items for your Thanksgiving feast, whether it’s a traditional favorites like sweet potatoes to candy or summer squash to make a casserole. Maybe you could cook up a pot of collard greens or make a salad with spicy young arugula to provide some variety from all the sweet dishes. Maybe you would like to put fresh cherry tomatoes – yes, in November! – on the table alongside the turkey. Maybe you would like to have someone else do the baking so you can enjoy some relaxation with family.

You’ll find all this and more on the market this week. Browse the listings between now and Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., fill your cart and remember to click the button to place your order. We’ll have it ready for pickup on Thursday.

Because the pickup day next week would be on Thanksgiving, Foothills Market will be closed next week. If you want something next week, contact the individual farmers to make arrangements.

Eat something fresh this week!

AVALON FARMS:

Wanted to highlight the salad turnips we are currently offering. These aren’t your standard turnips. They are smaller, with sweet tender crisp flesh. Cook as you would any turnip. As a crunchy addition to salad. Or, I like to roast the roots and saute the greens.

Scarlet Queen, a beautiful red salad turnip.
These slightly flattened turnips have sweet, crisp white flesh and spicy red skin. Internal red splashes of color add to the appeal when sliced. The dark green tops with attractive red stems may be used in salads or lightly cooked.

Hakurei, a white salad turnip sets the standard for flavor.
The smooth flat-round, white roots mature early, and are best harvested young up to 2" diameter. Eaten raw, the flavor is sweet and fruity, and the texture is crisp and tender. The tops are useful raw or lightly cooked.

CLG:  Wickles! Opening Bell: Nuts, Cheese, Pork, Squash!

Hello friends!

Salad turnips are available!!!

This Friday will be our last market before thanksgiving. Be sure to look around the site for little gifts for your neighbors and friends: jelly, soap, honey, Beaverfork Blend, garlic plants, lotion, etc.

People always ask me: Angus, when are you going to make another batch of those life-changing Wickles? It’s my pleasure to create a product that will be the focal point of your next sandwich: A crunchy, zesty dill pickle that speaks of my minced organic garlic and hot peppers. These are refrigerator pickles, like the expensive pickles in the glass jar that you find in the refrigerated section at the supermarket. Crunch, crunch, crunch! It’ll change your life. You’ll want to plan now to pick up early on Friday so you can grab some from the extras table. I made pints and half pints.

Cheese! Check out all the varieties of cheese listed this week. The Greek marinated feta is my favorite.

It’s time to put some garlic and elephant garlic plants in the ground for harvest next June. All you need is a small site that gets about 6 hours of daylight. You CAN grow garlic. Try it! Limited quantity available. Try Egyptian walking onions too!

Please wear a mask when you pick up your ordered items. Thank you. We will also continue contactless delivery to your vehicle on Fridays for those interested, just call or text 501-339-1039.

Bar C is having a special on pork sausage: 5 pounds for only $25. Makes excellent sausage patties or sausage gravy.

Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!

And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders. Click here to start shopping: *https://conway.locallygrown.net/market
