Spring officially arrived today at 11:33 a.m. According to the website Almanac.com, in the Northern Hemisphere, the March equinox (also known as spring equinox or vernal equinox) occurs when the Sun crosses the equator line, heading north. This event marks the start of the spring season in the northern half of the globe. After this date, the Northern Hemisphere begins to be tilted more toward the Sun, resulting in increasing daylight hours and warming temperatures.
Yesterday our family spent the day fencing in a garden spot at my parents’ homeplace. Living out in the country as they do, my folks fight a constant battle with deer. Mom did not plant vegetables last year, so the deer turned to her yard and munched on hostas and hydrangeas throughout the summer. This gardening season we hope that the deer will be foiled by the fence! I am looking forward to a summer of tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, green beans and other fresh veggies.
Thank you for supporting Georgia Grown. We’ll see you at the Market.
Have a great Sunday.
