Martin's Farmstand: Help wanted at martins Farmstand for this summer
The farm stand is open today (Saturday, March 26) from noon till 5 pm.
Canning jars and glass loop jugs like we use for vinegar and syrup are still somewhat scarce and expensive. One of the better ways to recycle is to reuse. Glass is very easy to sterilize. We here at Martins Farmstand appreciate donations of your used canning jars and loop jugs if you have more than you need. Do not just throw them away.
We are looking to hire more help (part time or full time) for the stand this spring, summer and fall. The job consists of customer service and checkout along with all the other jobs that keep a stand stocked and orderly. This includes helping to wash and trim incoming produce, pack orders as needed, refill displays, sweep floors, etc. If you or someone you know is interested tell us about who you are why you would like this job. On farm housing is a possibility. Daniel
Champaign, OH: Saturday In The Park
People talking, really smiling
A man playing guitar
Singing for us all
Will you help him change the world
Can you dig it?
(Chicago)
What a great song to start out this day, on this snowy morning in March. But, no matter the weather, you can still have all the Saturday vibes in your soul. And, I’m choosing to hang on to the warm weather waves that I am still riding from vacation.
The market is open, it’s always a sunshine, Saturday kind of feeling when you order, and you don’t want to miss out on one minute of market fun!!
Go ahead…dig through your vinyl, or pull up your playlist, and blast this song while you order. Your vibe will be riding high…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!

Champaign, OH: Cool Change
Lots of those friendly people
They’re showing me ways to go
And I never want to lose their inspiration…
(Little River Band)
Good evening, all of my very favorite people!! My market people!!
I hope you are well, and I hope that the market went well for you in my absence!!
I am now home from the most lovely, most relaxing, most beautiful weather of a vacation. I didn’t realize just how much I needed the time away. My schedule has been crazy for so very long, and, I’m not going to lie…my champagne days, poolside, and visit with the newlyweds, and soaking up the peace, the love, and all the seaside vibes gave me all the super powers that I needed to kick it all off, again!!
Hence, this evening’s song pick. Cool change. It was needed. And, I appreciate all of you for continuing the market love while I was away.
I open the market, this evening, and am including a special Cosmic note…I have added new items! I added an additional spring soup! AND…you will also see the return of ALL the Cosmic Classics that are emerging back into the spotlight!!
Cool change, babes…it brings on the best vibes…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Poised…is a good description of an ideal early spring. Of course it doesn’t always happen this way but the present spring is one of the best since starting the business in 2018!
Two hallmarks of success are early planning and collaboration with important resource people. I’ve been on the phone with suppliers and browsing websites for the best deals. The weather (and dry enough ground) coincided beautifully last week, and I was able to get all that good compost hauled to the flower beds for what should be a wonderful production season for flower bouquets at the market. Each of the six raised beds is now heavily covered in straw to preserve moisture and deter weeds. This is the first season I’ve tried germinating seeds on wet paper towels in covered flats in a temperature-controlled grow rack. Careful what you wish for! They’re all germinating so fast that I had to start making up flats with soil blocks today. Gonna need more flats…and it’s only March 24th :) This is a first!
Plans are in place to rent a spreader and purchase a ton of organic fertilizer for the hay field, to be applied after the first cutting in May; I’m waiting to hear from OEFFA (Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association) on a grant toward a new hay baler that will automate picking up harvested bales in the field; 60 bare root seedling raspberries are ready to ship from Norse Nursery to replace one fourth of my plant stock (with a planned sequential replacement for the other three rows); an irrigation upgrade is in the works, with a timer and four valves that will allow for automated irrigation for short intervals many times per day. This will be a much-improved regimen for these plants that live in porous grow bags, and a huge savings on my time. This year I plan to start a small you-pick enterprise.
Whew! I could go on ad nauseum – but you, dear supporters of MCLG, get the idea, I hope. The more you understand about what goes into producing the food and farm products you buy, the more you are connected with your local community and the more you foster relationships toward that end. And we all benefit from that.
