CLG:  Opening Bell: Tamales, Pumpkins, Honey, Flowers!

Good afternoon!

We all know how delicious and healthy our organically produced food is at Conway Locally Grown, but what do folks outside our market think? Well, we got some feedback this week when I entered 4 items from Cedar Rock Ridge in the Faulkner County Fair. Many other items from area residents were entered to be judged by a panel of Master Gardeners. When all the dust finally settled, all four of our entries had won the coveted blue ribbons of first place in their categories! We are very happy to share our award winning Jalapeños, Banana Peppers, Garlic, and Cherry Tomatoes with our CLG family!

The fall flowers at Bell Urban Farm are beautiful! Get a bouquet this week.

Get ready for fall decorating with some mini-gourds and pumpkins from Drewry Orchards. They have pie pumpkins too. We will also have lots of mini-gourds on the Extras table on Friday.

Back the truck up! Grass Roots has their delicious Smoked Bacon Ends & Pieces for only $6. Fill up the freezer with Bacon because you will need it with your Purple Hull Peas when it’s cold outside. :-)

This Friday, Doña Estela and her amazing homemade Tamales! She will make them Friday morning and have them at market Friday afternoon. They will be 5 for $7 in 3 flavors: Pork, Chicken, or Jalapeño & Cheese. To get an idea of how many she should prepare, please add a note to your order, or text me at 501-339-1039. If you do that, she will have your Tamales labeled for you. She may bring extras too. Delicious with sides of refried beans and rice, topped with a bit of salsa. They freeze very well so get some for several meals.

Be sure to SEARCH for your favorite items using the search field. Over 650 items available now!

Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!

And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders. Click here to start shopping:

Please check your email a few minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thank you!

Farm News of the Week

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has several really pretty fall-blooming perennials, but the stars of the show in fall are the reblooming azaleas. Reblooming azaleas reliably bloom in the spring and fall, but they are never covered with a complete carpet of flowers as you might see on traditional azalea varieties.

During the months that directly follow planting, give your azaleas plenty of water. Reblooming azaleas will perform well with extra water during hotter days for the first year till roots are established. These azaleas thrive in areas with partial sunlight. Areas with morning sunlight and afternoon shade are ideal.

Blooming now (with more colors to follow):

(L to R): Salmon, Double Pink, and Pink with Throat Markings.

Wayne Diller has added Cut-up Chickens to the market, in addition to several other cuts added last week. His broilers were raised on organic pasture with non GMO grain; no hormones or antibiotics. USDA approved processing.

Knottynuffacres items are unavailable on the market this week, while Debbie is entertaining hurricane evacuees. We hope to see her back next week, as we pray that her family’s belongings are all safe from the storm!

Important Ordering and Pickup Information

Ordering will be open until TUESDAY at 10 p.m., and your order will be available for pickup on THURSDAY between 4:00 and 5:30 at the pavilion across from Manchester City Schools administration building, 215 East Fort Street, Manchester.

We offer a great variety of local farm products, and our items will be in your hands in time to plan for the weekend. Wonderful local products are available for ordering from the comfort of your own computer.

More new farmers are considering joining our market, if they can expect enough sales to help pay their transportation costs.
