Locally Grown Market CCF: Figs are ripening and fall class starting
*The loaded fig trees are beginning to ripen their luscious, juicy fruit and we have some this week. My mother’s favorite is fig preserves with lemon, so that will be simmering on the stove as the volume of fruit increases.
It is the peak of tomato season and the large, smooth, red fruit we have to offer this week will look great on a tomato and Swiss cheese sandwich, lightly toasted, another favorite.
I will be offering an organic growing class starting this month on putting in a fall garden. This hands on class will be from 9-12, every other Saturday for 3 sessions. The first class is August 15 and the cost is 150 dollars. Contact Lynn to register.
Hope to see you picking up veggies Friday,
Lynn

Champaign, OH: You've Got A Friend
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you’ve got to do is call
And I’ll be there…
(James Taylor)
Song Implant from customer: Susan Schuster
Last week, at market pick up, Susan pulled up, as usual, smiling, as always, but admitting to having a bit of a time, on her drive into the market. She told me that this song came to mind, because of how she had been feeling on the drive.
And, what better song to fall back on when we all have those little melt downs, those cloudy days, those sad tears that sometimes need to fall?
James Taylor is one of my favorites, and I’ve been humming this song, ever since Susan’s market pick up.
I hope that this market is that friend, to you, for whatever you need, whenever you need it. I hope that we have helped to ease things for all of you, ever since March.
I feel like each week, we all, collectively, as a little united market front, are able to absorb and pass through yet another week of information overload, fear, unrest, and need for comfort.
Today is Tuesday, market customers, and we close for the week, this evening, at 8pm.
Let us be the friend, who gets you through another week…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Grumpy Goat: Edamame, Green Beans, and Cabbage
The garden has been keeping us busy this week as the edamame and green beans are ready for harvest! We should have a lot of both for a while…so think about preserving some for winter! You have options for your green beans of either those from our Zorro (black beans) or a purple/green mix (of the Royal Burgandy and Provider varieties).
We will also be harvesting our green cabbages this week. There aren’t a lot of them so I would suggest pre-ordering if you would like one.And the tomatoes, peppers, okra, eggplant, keep increasing their production!
We are going to be giving our greens a break this week. There is the possibility we will be able to cut a few on Friday so you might find some in the store or at the market Saturday but I don’t think we will be cutting much. They have been a bit slow to recover this week.
Shelbyville, TN: Market closing
Dear Shelbyville,
Due to poor customer interest, we have decided to close the locally grown market for the remainder of this year. We opened the market with the intention of providing healthy local produce and other items to the community, however with low participation it is simply not worth the effort this year.
We apologize to our growers and loyal customers. If you would like to continue to purchase produce from specific growers, you can contact them directly and I’m sure they will help you out. We will leave the website active which has contact information. We can be reached at [email protected]. We hope to re-open again next year and we will let everyone know.

Growing Together : Last Week of Online Marketplace - Order by Wednesday!
Dear Growing Together customers,
Thank you for your immense support this year as we pivoted our market to this online platform. Your purchases have made this change in our program possible, and we are so grateful for your support.
Alongside this shift from an in-person farmers market to our online marketplace, covid-19 has also pushed our program to adjust to increased need in our community for high-quality, locally grown vegetables. In the spring, we piloted a program led by Growing Together’s Burmese interpreter and community leader, Lu Lu Nhkum, to share Growing Together vegetables for free with members of the Burmese community impacted by covid-19. This program was so successful, that we are transitioning our fall outlets to expand this program with the Burmese community as well as start a new partnership with Trap Garden, a nonprofit organization who’s mission is to help build, sustain, and empower low-income communities by assisting in the creation of community gardens and the promotion of healthy eating. These new initiatives are clear steps forward towards The Nashville Food Project’s vision of community food security, and we are excited about the ways that the Growing Together farmers can be paid for their work in support of this.
Because of these changes, this will be our last week of the online marketplace. Saturday, August 8th is the last pick up day. We have so many summer vegetables on the market, so make sure to get your fill in this week!
Again, thank you so much for your support of the Growing Together farmers over the last several months. Your purchases have supported them with income in a critical time. We will continue our CSA program in the Fall and in 2021, so there will still be ways to get Growing Together produce! The Fall CSA is sold out, but stay tuned for more information about the Spring CSA in the coming months.
With gratitude,
The Growing Together team
