Martin's Farmstand:  We are open on Labor day. Overstock on grape tomatoes and watermelon

At the moment we are overstocked on grape tomatoes. I have them on sale @ $1 pint for any quantity. There are also several extra bins of watermelon and cantaloupe priced @2.50 each mix or match. Last evening I was in the lettuce field harvesting some of the nicest lettuce I have ever grown. The heads are big, sweet and tender. There is getting to be a nice selection of winter squash here. (best selection in late September)The boys weighed a few of the biggest butternut squash- over 10 lbs each! The next planting of beans are ready to pick. ($15 per box) My Dad makes a really good homemade vinegar. This is made with pure apple juice from our no- spray apples with nothing added. It is still raw so you get all the benefits that God has put in living vinegar. The new batch from last years apples is 12 months old and ready for your table. This is the time of abundance.
On the disappointing side it looks like there will not be organic beef available as we expected. There was a problem at the USDA plant that the cows were sent to with no inspector being available on the day we were scheduled. They called us and said to come pick our cows back up. It appears that there are no replacement openings available till sometime next year. This is a really bad deal for us with us paying for the trucking twice. We are not prepared to feed them for another winter so they got sent to the sale barn with us having little expectation of getting any reasonable price for them. Some aspects of the the food system are just broken. Daniel

Champaign, OH:  Flourish Update

As colder season is amongst us we are losing some blooms and trying to be creative with what we can add to the market as we move forward including plants.

However for this coming week we have a few updates we were hoping could be sent out!

This will likely be the last week for our zinnia bundles and lavender bundles. However we have added some more speciality flowers for a limited time including dahlia and astrantia bundles.

Thank you to Flourish!

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Champaign, OH:  You Ain't Goin' Nowhere

Morning came and morning went
Pick up your money and pack up your tent
You ain’t going nowhere…
(Written/performed by Bob Dylan)
(My favorite version is performed by The Byrds on their, Sweetheart Of The Rodeo album)

Looking for a bit of feel good twirly music…here you go!

Just like this market always makes me feel, I always feel like dancing around, when I hear this song.

So, we’ve got a holiday weekend happening, and if you find yourself with a bit of time, why not get your market orders in? Put on some tunes, look through the offerings, and get all groovy for the week upon us!

Your market manager has another day of work, ahead, and then I am slipping into two days of nothing until I start baking, again, next week.

Go ahead, start your Saturday with a feel good song, keep that song in your heart, and sing it out…

Much love to you all…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!

Champaign, OH:  Friday Announcements!

Good morning, lovely customers, and, once again, thank you for an amazing market, last night!!

While you are looking at the market site, this weekend, and placing your orders, there are a few announcements!!

First…we will soon be saying farewell to Burns Bakery and Fudge, and I am posting a note from Karen, to explain:

Hello Burns Bakery and Fudge customers, I want to let you know what Bill and I are up to. We sold our house and the last week of September we will be moving to Kentucky for 9 months. We have accepted positions at a small rural school where Bill will be cooking, I will be doing some school nursing and we will be staff mentors, along with other responsibilities. It is a very poor county with a lot of challenges, but we feel that this is what God is calling us to do. We are on vacation mode next week because we are going down for a few days to tie up some loose ends but we will be taking market orders September 17th and 24th. So get your goodies while you can! We aren’t sure where we will land when the school year is over, but if we end up back in Urbana, we plan to be market vendors once again. Thank you for being such wonderful customers! Karen and Bill Burns

We wish them well in their new adventure, and will welcome them back, should they return to Urbana!!

Second….we welcome a new vendor, Gourmet Fibers, Cottage Alpaca Creations!! Under the Growers tab, you can find their name, and click on their website to read all about them!!

Welcome aboard the market!!

Also…a note from Champaign Berry Farms…due to circumstances beyond their control, they had to take yesterday off from their sweet corn stand, at the market. They hope to be back, next Thursday, and will keep us posted! On the good news front, they should be with us, way into the fall, with their supply!! They appreciated all of the kind words, last night, and the fact that they were missed!

Customers…if you failed to pick up your orders, last night, and did not make prior arrangements as a Friday pick up, please take care of that!! I want to close out my reports, and cannot do so until your orders are picked up!!

One more note…August seemed to be the month for a lot of credit card expiration dates!! If this was the case with your card, please phone me with updated information, if you have not already done so!

Thank you for being a part of this lovely market family!

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
