Miami County Locally Grown:  Holiday Wreath Making Class from Honey Creek Farm!!

Save the date! Sign up for a 5pm Holiday Wreath Making Class, Saturday October 24th, that May from Honey Creek Farm will teach and host in the barn of her lovely Tipp City farm!!

We’ve adored May’s gorgeous wreaths she’s sold on the Market at Christmastime – with her class you’ll be able to make yourself a beautiful wreath in time for Halloween, Thanksgiving, AND Christmas – at a steal of a price!

Here’s her description of this new opportunity!!

“The Holiday Wreath Class will begin with a demonstration on how to make a wreath out of grapevines. There will also be premade wreaths ready for each participant to decorate!

Participants may bring anything they have collected (pinecones, dried seed pods or flowers, any small decorations, or ribbon) if they choose but it isn’t necessary. There will be greens, dried grasses, pinecones, and other little treasures available, collected from our farm!

We will discuss what items can be collected for wreath making. Participants will learn how to secure greens and other items to their wreath and how to spruce up some of the dried decorations. We will even learn how to make bows from loose ribbon for the final touch!

At the end of the class you will have a beautiful wreath, that you made, to take home and enjoy!"

Look under the Classes and Workshops section on The Market to sign up today!!

Champaign, OH:  My Favorite Things-Part 3

Tonight’s entry comes from one of our longest loyal market customers, Laurie…

And, these are some of her favorite things! Thank you, Laurie Cuddington!

Okay, here goes :-)
I have been a customer since January 2014! One of my longtime favorite items that I can’t do without is ELM Tree Essentials Soap. Some of my favorites are the Peppermint, Lemongrass, and Thieves Blend varieties. Another favorite product each year is Harrigan’s asparagus. I try hard to take advantage of that short season! In addition, I love JC Growers garlic in several forms, and my newest favorite item is the 8-pack of 1/3-pound beef burger patties from Oakview. We have fallen in love with smoking those. <3
Thanks for all the work and love that go into the market!
Laurie :-)

Champaign, OH:  Where Rainbows Never Die

Waste away the sunsets
Where rainbows never die…
(The Steeldrivers)

Happy Thursday eve, lovely little market customers!

What a lovely market pick up, this evening. I loved being able to chat with each of you. It brought a smile to my face, and a song to my heart.

I’ve had a tough couple of days for me, after my cat of 17 years passed away, yesterday. My heart is just hurting, and today, I focused on baking, making all of the Cosmic soup, getting orders organized, tried not to cry too many times, and then looked forward to seeing all of your smiling faces. I guess I needed the chats more than I realized because while my sadness is still there, you each gave me a little bit of love, with each of your chats.

This song has been on my repeat of late. It’s beauty, it’s words. And, just like in all parts of my life, music gets me through the sad times.

I open the market, tonight, with all love and light…the market does that for me, and I hope for all of you.

Have an amazing evening…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Appalachia Mushrooms:  Basic Prep for Delicious Lion's Mane Mushrooms

Basic Prep for Delicious Lion’s Mane Mushrooms

Lion’s mane mushrooms are very dense and have a high moisture content. Preparing them using this method helps make them more tender.

First, heat a small frying pan on medium heat without any additives.

Slice mushrooms into 1/2 inch medallions.

Place in pan and dry saute for 4-5 minutes on each side until a brown crust develops on the edges.

Remove mushrooms from pan.

Add butter, olive oil, or coconut oil and any other ingredients you’d like to use (such as shallots, garlic, white wine, any seasoning, or just a little bit of salt and pepper).

Place medallions back into pan for 4-5 minutes and brown both sides.

Serve with the main dish or as an appetizer.

If you would like to add the lion’s mane to a dish that will be cooked, just dry saute.

You can also peel the mushrooms apart like lobster or crab meat and use the same dry saute method.

I’ve found that they make an excellent substitute or additive to crab cakes when prepared using the method above.
