The Cumming Harvest - Closed: Weblog Entry
Good morning everyone,
October is here, with cooler weather to start. We are so excited. Leaves start to fall and new items are hitting the market.
This week, any questions or concerns about Saturday’s market need to be sent to the market manager by Friday at noon. I will not be available on Saturday. Mckenzie, our assistant manager will be running the market on Saturday.
Don’t forget to pick up your items the week you order them, to avoid a five dollar holding fee. This fee will be applied 2 weeks in a row, and if you do not pick up on the second week we will donate the items to Meals By Grace.
And remember the market hours are from 10 AM until 12 noon sharp.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Market News
We are well into Autumn, and the produce in the market reflects this delicious season. This is a time for greens, fresh lettuces, and just a few summer stragglers like green beans and the last of the tomatoes. As we continue through the year, our farmers are beginning to plan next year’s produce. If there were things you loved this year or things you wished we had on the market, let us know! Farmers don’t work in a vacuum – we want to grow what people want to eat.
Please remember as you order that per the POA’s instructions, we cannot leave your food unattended. If you need us to deliver to your neighbor or slip your order inside your house, please be sure to tell us in the comments so we can make sure your order gets to you safely!
If you have other suggestion about how we can continue to make deliveries without being able to leave products unattended, we’d love to hear them. We’re still developing the best ways to get your orders to you, and we welcome any of your ideas.
As always, if you enjoy being a member of Big Canoe Harvest, tell your friends! The more the market grows, the more additional vendors and products we’ll be able to include. As always, your feedback help shapes the market. Let us know what you think about the Big Canoe Harvest products.
Have a wonderful week, and we’ll see you Saturday!

For a meaty main dish you might try making:
- A Melt in Your Mouth Dutch Oven Chuck Roast
- Smothered Chicken with a little hot sauce to warm you up.
- Or an Autumn Pork Roast with plenty of seasonal vegetables
And finally, for dessert consider trying out Fuyu Persimmon Pie with a side of Southern Swiss ice cream!

Champaign, OH: Sun Comes Up, It's Tuesday Morning
Sun comes up, it’s Tuesday morning
Hits me straight in the eye…
(Cowboy Junkies)
Happy Tuesday on this sunshine filled day! A perfect autumn day just waiting to unfold, paint the day golden, and usher in that feel good, deep into October feeling.
I remember these fall days when I was in high school, and all you could think about was the last class of the day, and racing out to the parking lot, taking off for an afternoon of fun and mayhem, until evening obligations brought you home, again.
While you are enjoying this lovely day, the market is rocking and rolling, and will close at 8pm, this evening.
I took a bit of time to clean up more categories in the Bakery Section, including sorting our my own categories to make products easier to find!
Such lovely offerings from the market, and you don’t want to miss out…my Tuesday, today, not only your golden, honey hazed day, but make it your order day!
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
Old99Farm Market: Week of 11 October 2020
Growing meats and vegetables with organic and sustainable ways greatly reduces the carbon footprint of the farm and the products we offer. It also creates healthy nutrient dense vegetables and higher quality meats than conventional agriculture.
We have a good selection this week of beef, pork, chicken and rabbit. We also have sausages made by J. Waldron Butchers available in mild and hot Italian style. We had some on Friday and they are a MUST to serve at your next BBQ meal. Also available is new crop carrots, collard greens, health kick salad, tropeana onions, green frilly kale, red russian kale, chicory, potatoes, squash and many more.
*A Bee Note: the hives have produced well and we have plenty of honey available. If you would like sizes larger than 500ml jar please leave comment in the notes section of your order.
Pork Butchering Workshop
Would you like to see your side cut up just the way you want it? Or learn what cut comes from which part of the animal? Former Cumbreae’s butcher Jamie Waldron will conduct a butchering workshop here at the farm in October. First four families get their meat to take home ($5.50/lb). Cost of workshop is $50.00. Register in The Market. Date to be determined. Small group, social distancing in effect. A great educational experience for the whole family!

Here is a recent testimonial received from a new a customer: “We had the roast beef last week and it was delicious! Fantastic flavor and left overs were great! My wife and daughter made cabbage rolls today with the ground pork and beef. They were outstanding too. I remember when my mother made them and these are just as memorable.”
We look forward to seeing everyone again this week.
Be well,
Nick & Angela
