Dothan, Alabama: Time for Your M@D Order! April 17, 2021 Newsletter

OOPS and OK
Have you ever experienced an accident that there’s simply nothing you can do to fix it? That’s what happened to today’s newsletter. A great piece about the 2021 Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen (commercially grown) food list simply disappeared into cyberspace. Fortunately the image is still available for our educational purposes, but with the text gone and grandbabies on the way here, our comments will simply have to wait till another time. Priorities, you know.

GROWER & MARKET NOTES
![Spring open house](https://i.ibb.co/kMTP594/Spring-open-house.jpg)
Excited to finally offer some fresh vegetables! It’s been a slow spring here at Avalon but things are popping along now. Listed a small supply of asparagus, red and white russian kales, senposai and tokyo bekana greens. I also have several other pac choi type greens(and reds!) growing, but will have to wait till I get back home and find my notes to tell you about them because I can’t remember their names. Ha Ha
CASABLANCA RANCH is taking a few weeks off from the Market as their permanent day to day operations transition to another generation. Mr. Paul has seen this day coming for a long time and the family is well prepared to continue serving their customers. There’s also the issue of the young calves needing to fatten up a bit more . . . they send greetings and will be back soon.
We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible! `

Thank you for choosing Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as a way to support your local producers. This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!
PICKUP TIME is Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m.
If you do not get an email ORDER CONFIRMATION right after you order then your order is NOT complete. Log back in and your order might still be there waiting for you to check out! If you have any trouble or questions at all, we are here to help; simply reply to this email.
COVID19: Thanks for recognizing we can all do our part in operating in the safest way possible. Be on the lookout for the order reminder email with any changes to pickup or ways you can help minimize risk for our volunteers and each other. Thanks for your support!

Martin's Farmstand: Garlic scallions and chives
The farm stand is open this afternoon from 12:30- 5 pm. Spring is here and we have received some much needed rain! We harvested fresh garlic scallions, overwintered spinach and chives this morning from the outdoor gardens. Next I will head over to the greenhouse for more greens and to our sugar bush to harvest ramps (wild leeks). This will all be at the stand along with assorted root crops from winter storage. The bulk food room is stocked with spices, beans, rice, oatmeal, flour and more. Asparagus harvest is coming soon. In 18 out of the 20 years I have been growing asparagus the first significant harvest was in the first week of May. This year feels like it could be on the early side but I would not bet on it.
