Lathemtown Farm Fresh Market: Winter Wonderland
I hope you all are surviving this winter storm! We still have signs of snow on the ground this morning – just enough to be pretty. Though the snow and ice were not damaging, those hogh winds continue to get us. Lots of branches down, panels gone from the greenhouse, and plants knocked over and frost bitten. Winter is not for the faint hearted, even in Georgia! We don’t have anything from the garden this week, but the kitchen still producing some good food, as well as our coops.
Have a great week and stay warm!

Champaign, OH: Winter
And it sure been a cold, cold winter
And the wind that ain’t been blowin’ from the south
It’s sure been a cold, cold winter
And the light of love is all burned out
It sure been a hard, hard winter
My feet been draggin’ ‘cross the ground
And I hope it’s gonna be a long, hot summer
And the light of love will be burnin’ bright
And I wish I been out in California
When the lights on all the Christmas trees went out
But I been burnin’ my bell, book and candle
And the restoration plays have all gone ’round
It sure been a cold, cold winter, Lord
My feet been draggin’ ’cross the ground
And the fields has all been brown and fallow
And the springtime take a long way around
Yeah, and I wish I been out in Stone Canyon
When the lights on all the Christmas trees went out
But I been burnin’ my bell, book and candle
And the restoration plays have all gone ’round
Well well well
Sometimes I think about you, baby
Sometimes I cry about you Lord
Well well well
Well well well
Yeah, and I wanna wrap my coat around you
Yeah, I wrap my coat around you
Yeah, I wanna wrap my coat around
Baby, sometimes I wanna keep you warm
Sometimes I wanna wrap my coat around you
Sometimes I wanna but I can’t afford you
Sometimes I wanna wrap my coat around you
Sometimes I want to burn a candle for you
Just how I wanna keep you warm warm warm
Sometimes I wanna wrap my coat around you, Lord I cry
(The Rolling Stones-Goat’s Head Soup album)
Well, happy Monday, lovelies! And, well, as this song implies, we have officially seen the magic of winter drop in on us, this fine day.
It’s such a good day for your market manager to stay inside, coffee in hand, working on the market, adding product, and urging you to also take care of this snowy day, and get your orders in.
I’m bringing you one of my favorite Stones songs…yes, I know, picking your favorite Stones song is like picking your favorite Grateful Dead song. It’s hard! But, I tend to groove to the late 60’searly to mid 70’s Stones, and rounding it all out with Some Girls, in the late 70s. I have a Stones vinyl collection, loving collected from my junior high days, onward, from dusty record shops, kept from old boyfriends’s collections (whoops, totally forgot to return, post break up) and handed down from friends.
In high school, I was all about the Stones, I self cut my hair to resemble Anita Pallenberg, and I played this song, along with it’s “sister” song, Moonlight Mile, a whole lot, over and over, contemplating life, my future, etc.
Today seemed like the perfect day to toss on some old Stones, and start my work.
Just like all the old comfort my music brings to me, the market does the same. So many products, it’s hard to choose which is a fav. Like a classic rock song, so much to choose from, and depending on your mood, time of season, your needs at the time, will dictate which products you will groove to…
And, when we kicked off this new year, I told you that this year will be marking our 11th year as a market, and that I would be reliving things, from this market’s past, as we go.
One of the fun things that I am bringing back from say, Season 4, is the Market Of Local Love cd contests!! Back in the day, I would compile 10 market weblog songs, in succession from the posts, burn a cd, and pick a customer name, of that week (an ordering customer), and surprise them with the cd, in their order!
So, we begin…who will be the first market customer to win the Market Of Local Love 2022 cd? I’ll let you know when we have reached the first 10 songs!!
Now, go, order, and enjoy the beauty of the day…
Winter…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
Foothills Market: The Market is Open!
It may be the “dead” of winter, but Foothills Market is still going! Our offerings of vegetables are reduced, true, since we’ve hit that January-February stretch when all that’s still growing are the hardiest of greens under cover. But we still have plenty to offer for your menu!
Check the market for beef and other meats, as well as sweet spreads and honey. Shop between now and Wednesday at 5 p.m., and we’ll have your order ready for pickup on Thursday afternoon.
Eat something fresh this week!
