The Wednesday Market:  The Wednesday Market is Open for Orders

Good afternoon.

The Wednesday Market is open for orders. Please place your order by 10 p.m. Monday. Orders are ready for pick up between 2 and 4 p.m. Wednesday. See the website for this week’s product offerings. Here is the link: https://wednesdaymarket.locallygrown.net/market

What comes to mind when you hear the word “farming”? I think of my grandparents’ farms. They were both small family farms using traditional planting and harvesting methods to grow their fruits and vegetables. Beyond Papaw’s tractors and hay baling machinery, the most sophisticated tools my folks used were tillers. Nearly all of the work was done by hand, even milking the cows.

Today, I am sharing links to two articles that discuss innovations in farming. The first article focuses on a Virginia-based company which has worked with a cruise ship company to install a vertical farm on one of its ships. This farm produces microgreens, lettuces, and herbs to supply the ship’s restaurant. Here is the link to that fascinating story:
https://richmond.com/business/local/scotts-addition-firm-brings-micro-farming-to-mega-cruise-ship/article_67aaf810-942f-11ed-b9c3-1fc057696845.html

I am also sharing a post regarding the concept of controlled environment agriculture. The use of CEA methods has increased the variety of crops that can be grown in Georgia. Here is that link: https://www.georgia.org/center-of-innovation/controlled-environment-agriculture-georgias-fastest-growing-agribusiness-sector

Thank you for supporting Georgia Grown. We’ll see you at the Market.

Thanks,

Beverly

P.S. I can’t figure out how to make the links listed above as “hyperlinks” so that you could just click on them and your browser would take you straight to the information. You’ll need to copy and paste the https:// address into your browser’s search feature to access these articles. Anyway, I trust that you’ll find these articles interesting and inspirational.

Champaign, OH:  The 59th Street Bridge Song

…lookin’ for fun, and feelin’ groovy…
(Simon & Garfunkel)

Happy Thursday evening, lovely little local market customers!!

If you ordered, this past week, and picked up, tonight, thank you for braving those crazy winds and rain!! Once again, just brutal weather!! But, it was fun to see everyone, have a quick chat, and get you on the road to your destinations!

Such a groovy feeling, each week. Greeting you all before you head home, or out, or wherever life takes you. I just love being a part of your day.

You know what else is groovy? Did you notice that I picked a tune, this evening, using the word bridge? Well, plus, I LOVE this song…but, anyway, groovy, bridge…I’m leading up to announcing a brand new collab for the market, with a new vendor, and new product.

This market is long standing in our little community, has built an excellent reputation, and boast a huge, steady, loyal customer base. Groovy!

You know that I am constantly keen to new ideas, new vendors, and even branching out, when needed, to bridge another local community to our little local market, if I feel strongly about the product, vendor, their practices, and if we have a void to fill in the market. A Groovy Bridge!

So, in a new collab with a new community, I reached out to a former customer, who lived in our area for a short time, during the pandemic. Your managers got to know her, her background, and even caught an old documentary about her…she just really stuck with me, even after she moved down to the Athens area. She knew local, and she knew and appreciated what this little market is all about.

So, right before Christmas, I took a chance and reached out to her to see if she was still down in the Athens/Pomeroy area, and she is!! And, she is still with the connection I was trying to connect with. She paired me up with another girl, within their farm/company, and they were SUPER excited to become part of our market!! SUPER GROOVY BRIDGE!

This market needs cheese. Good cheese. Cheese that I trust the farm, the practices, and while they are a bit away from us, we set up a great shipping gig with them. And, if you know the Athens area, you know they are just the coolest when it comes to local, food, and helping to fuel others with the same interests and visions.

So…in this long blog, I am announcing my excitement at adding, Snowville Creamery to the market for their white cheddar cheese, and their white cheddar cheese crisps!! (I am still trying to decide how to get their yogurt on the market) but for now…CHEESE!! And, it is soooo good!!!

Also, Snowville will be doing a write up for you, soon, but just so you know…all of their cheeses are made with only the A2 milk from their cows. That means, it is easier on your digestive system!!

And, your other market manager will also have their cheese and cheese crisps in the retail shop, so you can stop in to purchase if you forget to order from the market!

SO…see, it’s groovy, and it’s bridging local with another local!!! With amazing products!! You can also go to their website to read all about them!!

Local helping local…it’s a groovy thing…

Just give me a bit to get their products listed on the market page, and then begin your ordering!!!

XOXO,
Pam
