Dawson Local Harvest:  Pork and Beans (and lots more!)

Dawson Local Harvest for July 22nd

Pork and Beans (and lots more!)

HI EVERYONE!

Lots of News! First of al, Bacon is back! FIVE HENS FARMS has added their super-delicious sliced Bacon to the Meat Menu this week. That joins Breakfast and Italian Sausage, Pork Chops, and other items in the Meat section.

And what is Pork without Beans, although in this case I’m talking Green Beans from LEILANI’S GARDENS. These are our first Pole Beans for the season (awfully good with 5 HENS Fatback). They’ve also added Speckled green and Yellow Round Ball Zucchinis to the Vegetable section along with a colorful yellow “regular” Zucchini for casseroles and baked dishes. And don’t forget their Purple Cabbage for the tastiest and most colorful Coleslaw you’ve ever seen.

Also ORGANIC Blackberries and Blueberries from MY DAILY BREAD while they last!

THE MARKET IS NOW OPEN!

REMEMBER! You can now order until Tuesday night at 9pm. Pick up your order at Leilani’s Gardens Friday afternoons from 4 to 7pm.

You’ll find the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST at http://dawsonville.locallygrown.net

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible! We guarantee your satisfaction with all products in the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST.

ROCKY GLADE FARM brings us delicious:

HONEY! Just finished up robbing our ladies this week and the honey is wonderful! Our honey is all natural, we just strain it, never heat it…so it retains all the natural enzymes and pollen etc that will help you fight allergies naturally. We grow all sorts of vegetables that the bees get nectar from, they also take in a good amount of white clover and the buckwheat we grow for cover crops, so the honey is a true mix of everything they have collected from last fall, all winter, spring and early summer…good immunity! Coloring is medium, honey color will vary from bottle to bottle. Taste is fantastic!!! I have quart jars in glass as well as plastic inverted squeeze bottles that hold one pound of honey.

Garlic…garlic bundles!

Potatoes…plenty of german butterballs are available as well as purple bora valley and Yukon gold.

Tropea Onions—Sweet Red onions that are very mild, no bite just lots of wonderful sweet onion flavor. These are the torpedo shaped onions. They come in one pound bundles

Erdmann Farms has absolutely GORGEOUS cut flowers!!

White City Produce has large amounts of vegetables available along with favorites from Flying S Farm SweatPea and Rainbow Hill

ALFN Local Food Club:  Weblog Entry

Good morning ALFN members,

What a wonderful day to begin another week on the “market”:http://littlerock.locallygrown.net/market! I love this season in the ALFN market when the cybernetic seams are stretched with the bounty of summer choices. This is the time to let tomato juice dribble down your chin and gorge on fresh food. This is also the time to can and freeze the foods you love miss the most in the winter.

We had a successful pilot run with the dry goods on the market. We will continue to have dry good available in the coming months as a pre-order option. Just head over to the dry goods section on the market to order. Don’t forget to check out the heirloom tomatoes, fresh okra and mixed sweet pepper options available right now.

Shared Economy

Recently, I read a profound description of modern life and the desires cultivated by our over-capitalized world. Ricky D’Ambrose suggested the modern lifestyle is “available only in an affluent, wasteful, appetitive society such as ours, committed to reckless uses of limited energy, built upon extravagance and speed, crammed with unremitting secondhand desires that are hugely disproportionate to what most of us are capable of ever achieving.” Have you every wondered whether the desires that well up within you are your own or recycled desires from unsustainable economy based on unlimited consumption? Secondhand desires are passions seeded by marketing. Through mass media, reality is presented as a new glossed surface promising a life based on mirage. However, I think we can redeem “secondhand desires” by refusing to take part in an economy and worldview of obsolescence. I’m interested in the market exchange of used and recycled goods. As the limited resources of planet earth begin to run thin, human economy must move to a shared, recycled economy.

Want to hear more? Here are two cool resources. From the Story of Stuff folks, listen to the podcast on how to open up to the market forces of sharing. Inevitably, you may find yourself at a website called Yerdle. On this site you can swap items with folks in a cyber share-exchange…check it out!

Have a great week!
