Champaign, OH:  When The Leaves Come Falling Down

I saw you standing with the wind and the rain in your face
And you were thinking ’bout the wisdom of the leaves and their grace
When the leaves come falling down
In September when the leaves, come falling down…

And at night the moon is shining on a clear, cloudless sky…
(When The Leaves Come Falling Down-Van Morrison)

If you ever want to get lost in a beautiful song, with beautiful lyrics, put this on, light candles, pour a glass of wine, or tea, or water, or coffee, or cider…and begin your dinner prep…the music will let you drift back in time, or let your thoughts swirl into the autumn sunsets with the first leaves…

I know that we have not crossed that threshold from summer to autumn, just yet, but yesterday, I had the afternoon to myself, and I took a drive out on back roads, with my convertible top down, back to my roots, my old stomping grounds, the West End. The breeze, the sunshine, the golden hue…all signals that the change is in the air. The crisp passing of the seasons.

I spent time going in and out of roads, went past the house I was born in and lived until I was two. I drove past my old school. I landed at my mother’s house, and sat in my favorite spot, at this time of year. The back porch has steps leading down to the back yard, and with all of the majestic trees, overhead, I love to sit, listen to the quiet, and watch the sunlight dance through the shadows of the trees.

Instantly, I remember racing through yards, playing games with all of the neighbor kids, remembering growing, coming of age, leaving home for college, leaving home for California, leaving home, leaving home, leaving home…

But, yesterday, as I sat on the steps, I was no longer the toddler, or the young girl, or the teen girl…I am now grown, always busy, always flitting to everything I am involved in, but for those fleeting moments, on that porch, I am revisiting an old friend, my old yard, house, memories…

Just like this market, this week…everyone seems to be returning to our little local market of love home. Customers, vendors, everyone is finding their way home after their summer away.

Like falling leaves that swirl…we all swirl back to where we belong…

We have products added back to the market, we have Champaign Berry with their added popular jams and sauces that they needed to replenish.

Think about the comforts of home, heart, family, and autumn love…plan the shift in your cooking, baking, eating…we have it all to make it feel like you are back home…

Today is Tuesday, the market seems to be exploding, and I want you all to get in on the ordering fun!! We close, tonight, at 10pm!

Peace, Love, Good Vibes…
Cosmic Pam

Please remember that the Forest Run Farm Farm Stand CSA punch cards are not valid for purchases from Bristol Valley or Ripp-N-Good offers.

Old99Farm Market:  Old 99 Farm, week of Sept 11, 2016

We had fun putting up the tomatoes last weekend:now have juice, sauce, and a garden cocktail, all recipes from the 1977 Rodale classic, Stocking Up. (You can still find it used online.)

Last nite was first 10dC low temp which means outdoor tomatoes will become scarce. We’ve got lots in the greenhouse but the romas will now get about a week on the vine before we bring the rest in.

Oh, I harvested Asia Pears from our orchard, one of the few fruits that produced this summer. And a bushel of crab apples, for jelly. I can sell some too if you’re interested.

How about trying that honey garlic lamb sausage? Tasty on the bbq or baked.

It’s a long list of available offerings this week: eggplant, spinach, swiss chard, beet root, beet tops, green onions, leek, rhubarb, kale, arugula, tomatoes including cherry, beefsteak and roma, carrots, string beans (yellow, green and purple varieties), potatoes (cobbler, dakota and purple), garlic, and herbs: chives dill, spearmint, bronze fennel and lovage.

Healthy eating
Ian and Cami
