Market News
Looks like it’s going to be a beautiful week, just the sort that the cool weather leafy greens love. I’ve fallen behind on my garden plans, but it’s not too late to get some seedlings in the ground for eating all through the winter. This coming weekend, for sure!
ALG operates year-round, even after all of the other area markets close, but there is one week we take off every year: the week of Thanksgiving. We will be open as usual the rest of November, so if there are things you’d like for your Thanksgiving meals, you’ll need to plan ahead and order them early. Naturally, I’ve get asked if I know of any local growers with turkeys available. We have in years past had ALG growers raising turkeys, but most everyone has stopped trying. Domestic turkeys, even heritage breeds, have a really hard time with the heat and humidities of our summers, and so take an enormous amount of labor to raise well. As the holiday gets closer, I may get a few leads on a handful of locally raised heritage turkeys, and if so, I’ll share them with you.
Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!
Other Area Farmers Markets
The Athens Farmers Market runs Saturday mornings at Bishop Park and Wednesday afternoons at Creature Comforts downtown. You can catch the news on their website. The West Broad Farmers Market has returned, and you can catch the details on their website here: www.athenslandtrust.org/west-broad-farmers-market/. The Comer Farmers’ Market is open on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon. Check www.facebook.com/comerfm for more information. Washington, GA also has a lovely little Saturday market, running Saturdays from 9 to noon. You can learn all about them here: www.washingtonfarmersmkt.com. Folks to the east can check out the Hartwell Farmers Market, which starts bright and early on Saturday morning from 7am to noon, and Tuesday afternoons from noon to 4pm. The city of Monroe has a downtown market on Saturdays, 8:30 to 12:30, and you can learn more here: www.monroedowntown.com/events/monroe-farmers-market. If you know of any other area markets operating, please let me know.
All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!
We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest, and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Market News
Hello!
We’ve got tons of great stuff this week – lots of greens and salad stuff! So eat your veggies!
The time change means we will be up under the porch until Spring! We are so grateful that Trinity Presbyterian Church allows us this space to do deliveries – sheltered from rain and wind and with lights for those now dark afternoon!
We will not be delivering Thanksgiving week. There are some options for getting Thanksgiving goodies, however! You can pre-order turkeys from Wedge Oak Farm on our website and pay your deposit, but will need to pick those turkeys up at Richland Park Farmer’s Market on Saturday before. You can read more about this on the Market Page.
You can also check out the Thanksgiving Menu at Dozen Bakery. They have a great selection of pies, breads, and savory sides to get you through! You need to order through them and pick up at their location :
https://www.dozen-nashville.com/thanksgiving-menu-2018
Stay tuned from special items from Bear Creek Farm that you can order the week before and look to The Bloomy Rind as well for your party cheese and charcuterie plates!
Don’t forget we will have lots of sweet potatoes, winter squash, and other vegetables that you can stock up on ahead of time for that holiday week.
In special event news, Karen Overton, farmer of Wedge Oak Farm, will be hosting a fundraising event “Seasoned Sunday” –
This will be held at Wedge Oak Farm on 11-11-28, from 12 – 5 pm
It is a benefit for the TN local Food Summit. Get on out to the farm tasting great sausage and craft beers! 4 chefs, 5 breweries!
You can read more about it here:
http://www.tncraftbeermag.com/seasoned-sunday-sausage-and-beer-at-wedge-oak-farm
They are offering a $15 off code for people that shop locally with farmers
Code is: CSA
Tickets are on Eventbrite and you can buy them here: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/seasoned-sunday-sausage-and-beer-tickets-51825869571
Should be awesome!
You have until Tuesday night to place your order!

Dawson Local Harvest: November News for Dawson Harvest
Dawson Harvest for November 9th
November News for Dawson Harvest
HI EVERYBODY!
Lots happening with The Market right now, starting with a nice mix of Vegetables from LEILANI’S GARDENS. Available this week: Green Beans, shelling Peas, Jalapenos, Yellow Squash, Zucchini, and a very tasty Radish mix. Plus, BACK IN TIME FARM has the very first Kale of the season, a tender and delicious Large Leaf!
Secondly, we have run into a snag concerning the sale of SAWNEE ACRES Fresh Turkeys. It turns out The Market, which is considered a Farmer’s Market, can only sell Frozen Turkeys. Fresh processed have to be purchased at the SAWNEE ACRES farm itself. We have made the Turkeys unavailable through our Market but you can still look them up in Our Growers and contact them directly if you want a fresh-processed Bird.
Finally so you can plan ahead, the Dawson Local Harvest will have a special Pre-Thanksgiving Market Pickup on Tuesday, November 20th from 3 to 6 pm. We will open The Market on Sunday night, Nov. 18th as usual, but will close The Market Monday night at 11pm. Pickup will be the next day, Tuesday the 20th so you can order all of the Vegetables, Breads, Desserts, Dips, and more you’ll want for your Thanksgiving. We’ll give you more details as we get closer.
THE MARKET IS NOW OPEN!
REMEMBER! You can now order until Tuesday night at 9 pm. Pick up your order at Leilani’s Gardens Friday afternoons from 4 to 6 pm.
You’ll find the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST at http://dawsonville.locallygrown.net
We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible! We guarantee your satisfaction with all products in the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST.
