Champaign, OH:  The Weight

Catch a cannonball now to take me down the line
My bag is sinking low and I do believe it’s time
To get back to Miss Fanny, you know she’s the only one
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone…
(Putting the grooviness of, The Band, into your day…)

And, while you are searching your playlists to get this song implant into your morning, don’t forget to get your orders in for the market!!

We close, for the week, tomorrow, at 6am, and you don’t want to miss out on all that we have to offer, to get you through the weight of these cold, cold days.

Also, we welcome a new vendor, Karen’s Heavenly Fudge!! She just got her listings up and running, so if you would like to indulge…she’s got it all for you!!

Have a great day, put some music into your step, and groove the market…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Heritage Farm :  Operations Update.....Please read.

All,

As many of you know Greg’s mother suddenly fell ill and had to be hospitalized in Savannah. She had a massive stroke and, after surgery and a brief hospital stay, she passed away in hospice on January 11th. As you can imagine this has been a very hard time for our family and as such we have been unable to schedule or maintain farm route/services. We will catch up orders and accounts in the near future. Our plan now is to run the next farm truck and home deliver on Saturday Feb. 1st. We will contact all of you with open orders in the near future to secure final details.

Your thoughts and prayers are deeply coveted and much appreciated.

Thanks,
The Hutchins Family

Market News

I don’t have any new news for you so I’ll let you get right on to ordering. We’re in for some cold weather this week, enough to bite back some of the thinner leafy greens. Most of our growers will counter that with row covers or keeping the hoop houses closed up tight, or even providing some external heat. I know a few growers have wood heaters they deploy in weather like this, just to keep the ice away from the more sensitive crops, or the summer crops they’re managing to keep going under protection. Stay warm yourself!

Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

Other Area Farmers Markets

The Athens Farmers Market has closed for the season. They’ll return in the Spring, and you can catch the news on their website. The Comer Farmers’ Market is open on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon. Check www.facebook.com/comerfm for more information. Washington, GA also has a lovely little Saturday market, running on winter hours from 1-4. You can learn all about them here: www.washingtonfarmersmkt.com. If you know of any other area markets operating, please let me know.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!
