Fresh Harvest, LLC:  Amaryllis Bulbs, Aloe Plants & Honey

Market News

Hello!
The Amaryllis bulbs and the Aloe plants were late additions to the Market. You can find them in the Flower or Plant Category. My secretary neglected to make available the Honey, Hemp Honey and Lip Balm for the Market yesterday. I’ll need to talk to him about his negligence. There are plenty of carrots, lettuce and lots of great items from Bear Creek, Wedge Oak, Bloomy Rind and Dozen Bakery still available.

I’m hoping that the next Market will be March 1st.

Here is some information on how Fresh Harvest works.
*Orders can be placed without receiving the Sunday email. I try to open the Market between 7 and 8pm on Sunday. Sometimes I run a little late. Just go to the website: http://freshharvest.locallygrown.net/welcome to see if the Market is open.
*If you see an item as Sold Out, write in the Comment section at check out that you would like that item if more becomes available. We’ll try our best to add it to your order.
*PayPal payments have to be manually added to your account. There will be a delay to crediting your account due to me needing to take time to do the bookkeeping. I also have to go to each account with cash or check payments. These are sometimes delayed by procrastination or being busy. You can still place an order even though it may cause your account to be “overdrawn”. There is no penalty for going into the minus column. Sometimes I’m a little slow in getting to the bank to make deposits, but it eventually happens.
• If you recruit a new customer to Fresh Harvest and they open an account with a $50 deposit, we will credit your account $10 for each new customer who signs up. They will need to tell me your name, so that I can credit your account. Word of mouth has been our best advertising. Any help that you can provide is greatly appreciated.
• Every week, we leave orders at the church for customers who cannot arrive at Trinity before 6pm. This has worked well for those who have difficulty with the 4-6pm window. Please let me know if you need me to leave your order at the church.
• The bag that you receive each week is to be brought back with your next order. We have been negligent in telling new customers how this works. Don’t feel bad if you return multiple bags, it happens all the time.
• We’re into reusing and recycling. Our clean egg cartons, honey jars, paper and plastic bags, berry containers are some of the items that we can reuse. If we can’t reuse the returned items, we’ll recycle them.
• We do guarantee everything that we sell. If you ever have a problem, please let us know and we will credit your account.
• If there are other products or growers that you think should be a part of Fresh Harvest, please let me know.

Thanks for your support, and I will see you on Wednesday!

If you need to text me, my number is 615-838-0428.

Market News

This week, I’d like to highlight a feature of the website that you may have missed. When we started filling orders paperlessly a several years ago, I revamped the “Order History” that you can view by looking at the Your Account page. Back when we had a sheet of paper with your order on it, you could see right then if a grower couldn’t fill an item you had ordered. Now, we try to tell you (we can see that on our little screens), but I do sometimes get asked days or weeks later about missing items (often when someone else picked up the order, and word didn’t get passed back). The system records every time a grower takes something off your order by adding a note to the comment section of the order. Sometimes they’ll also email you in person, but not always. Additionally, the system records when we put an item in your basket or bag, and how you paid. If something turns up missing because the grower didn’t bring it, or if we later discover a bag with your name on it (usually because we accidentally gave you someone else’s), it’ll record that too. We automatically issue refunds for items you paid for but didn’t receive (and you’ll get an automated email each time), and that gets recorded also. You can see all these notes and details about your order by pulling it up in your order history and clicking the link for the PDF Invoice.

If you want to double-check our packing as we hand you your order, you can print out that invoice and bring it with you or load it up on your smart phone. There’s nothing wrong with that, and we welcome your diligence. By 2pm on Thursday, it should accurately reflect what you’re going to be getting that day. I will say that the paperless system has improved our order filling accuracy tremendously. We still have to refund a thing or two each week, but well over 99.9% of the items are getting to where they’re supposed to go.

If you have entered your credit card into our system, we do not run those cards until after pickups close on Thursday night, and the total charged to your card reflects any adjustments that had to get made along the way. If there is any question, the PDF has an item by item accounting of everything you received and was charged for, so we can go back over that at any time.

If you’ve ordered something one week and want to order it again, but can’t quite remember what it was called or who sold it, there’s a simpler version of your order history right on the market page. If you never use it, you can hide it, but what makes it really useful is the items you ordered previously will have an “add to cart” link right next to them if they are currently being offered for sale again. If you like to buy the same things each week, it can really speed up your shopping time.

Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

Other Area Farmers Markets

The Athens Farmers Market has closed for the season. They’ll return in the Spring, and you can catch the news on their website. The Comer Farmers’ Market is open on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon. Check www.facebook.com/comerfm for more information. Washington, GA also has a lovely little Saturday market, running on winter hours from 1-4. You can learn all about them here: www.washingtonfarmersmkt.com. If you know of any other area markets operating, please let me know.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Fresh Harvest, LLC:  Fresh Harvest for February 16th

Market News

Hello!

Surprisingly, there’s a pretty darn good selection of veggies, cheese, breads and meats this week. It’s unclear how often the Market will be open, but I’m guessing every other week at this point.

Bountiful Blessings Farm will be listing eggs with Fresh Harvest. The hens are free range and are fed organically. $6 dozen

Henosis has Lions Mane mushrooms this week. Touting neurological health benefits this little puff of goodness is great for any seafood center-dish or appetizer.

Wedge Oak Farms has some great new sausages:
Potsticker Sausage: this sausage tastes like the filling of a Potsticker or dumpling. Rich with Scallion, ginger, garlic, soy sauce and sesame oil. Try it with your favorite Egg Roll in a Bowl recipe.
Boudin Sausage – a traditional Cajun sausage made with pork, rice, and loaded with garlic, onion, bell peppers, scallion and parsley. Get ready for Mardi Gras 2020
Honky Tonk Cheesesteak Sausage – beef, white cheddar, jalapeños, and bacon. We call it Honky Tonk cause it’s hot and smoky.
Winter Goose – “poultry-only” sausage rich with all spice and cloves. A delicious way to try goose.

You have until Tuesday night to place your order.
Thanks for your support, and I will see you on Wednesday!

The summer gardening season is underway at Cedar Rock Ridge. This morning I transplanted 36 Brad’s atomic grape tomatoes into their individual 2 1/2 inch pots. I will grow some of the plants and list the rest so you can grow them in your gardens. It’s a wonderful variety. I noticed about 20 Jalafuego jalapeño sprouts as well. Those will yield big pods with traditional jalapeño heat. Great for pepper poppers!

Kohlrabi? Yes, please!

A fresh batch of zesty barbecue sauce from Cedar Rock Ridge is now listed. The heat comes from my organic jalapeños that I smoke over peach wood for 6 hours. Warning: this batch is a little spicier than normal. Sweet and hot but oh so good. It’ll change your life!

Search for Maria’s wonderful BBQ pulled pork this week. She has a few 1-pound packages listed.

We’ve been having a lot of excellent items on the extra table lately. Earlier shoppers get the best selection. We are normally ready for customers to start arriving around 3 PM if you happen to be out and in the area. Just text me to see if we’re ready.

Be sure to SEARCH for your favorite items using the search field. Four instance, type in the word “sale” and see what pops up. We have over 500 items available now!

Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!

And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders. Click here to start shopping:

Please check your email a few minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thanks!
