Lathemtown Farm Fresh Market: Weblog Entry
New this week – Blueberries! We were able to speak to the folks that own the former “Blueberry Hill” where we used to go picking years ago. They have agreed to sell a small amount of berries for purchase! Get them while you can! We’ll use some in our scones if you’d like to sample them that way, too!
Tomatoes are still spotty in ripening so not enough to preorder again. I’ve replanted a bunch of crops as the Japanese beetles have wreaked havoc this year!
If you’ve picked up your orders and noticed the sunflower patch – it has really bloomed now! Below is the pumpkin patch. There are white caspers, and other coming in. I’ve just planted more so we should have a great fall harvest!
Have a great week!
Far,her Chef Amy

News from Our Growers:
The Market is filling up with delicious Summer Produce and Baked Items, order early so you don’t miss any of your favorite things.
Please welcome our newest Grower: Ewe and Me Homestead: A few years ago, We discovered I had a food sensitivity to cow and goat milk. I went a few years without any dairy in my life, but was extremely excited to find I was not sensitive to sheep milk. We started our sheep dairy last year, with this being our first milking season.
We recognized that this unique milk could help others in our community who are sensitive to the other types of milk available. We offer herd shares and sheep milk ice cream through our dairy, which provides a guaranteed amount of milk per week.
Our sheep graze out on our pasture which has never been treated with chemicals. We provide our flock grass hay, sheep feed and alfalfa. We are moving towards a grain free flock on a rotational grazing system. We hand milk to keep our girl comfortable and happy.
Trinity Rose Oberhasli Dairy Goats: taking a weekend break this week, see you all next week.
RnR Farm: We are adding more and more new items as the summer rolls along. Still have plenty of the best naturally grown lettuce in Middle Tennessee. But also have plenty of items that are great companions to our lettuce. We have amazing cherry tomatoes, and also saladette tomatoes, which are a small heirloom type of tomato great for salads or chopping into fresh salsa. Also cucumbers, the first bell peppers of the season, zucchini, tomatillos, and more!
Mama D’s Bakery: Hi everyone! We have everything available this week! We have a Sourdough Sandwich Loaf, Oatmeal Cookies, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, Strawberry Swirl Bread, Raspberry Swirl Bread, and Apple Cinnamon Swirl Bread, Blueberry Muffins, Crusty French Bread, Organic White Wheat Bread, Mocha Muffins, Chocolate Swiss Roll, Cinnamon Rolls, Caramel Apple Cinnamon Rolls, Blueberry Lemon Yeast Rolls, Banana Bread and Pumpkin Bread(with the option of nuts or not), Bagels(plain, cinnamon-raisin, blueberry, and everything), Donuts(cake and yeast), Cream Cheese Danishes, Pies(chocolate fudge, pecan, chocolate chip pecan, pumpkin and sweet potato), Cookies, Granola and Protein Bars, Yeast Breads, Sourdough Breads, and Fruit Scones. Champaign, OH: Going Up The Country
I’m gonna leave this city, got to get away….
(Canned Heat)
Don’t you feel like this lyric, on Thursdays, when you drive out to the farm to get your lovely weekly orders of market love?
This song always makes me think of summer, of growing up in the West End and exploring all that summer adventures had to offer with my little band of pals.
And, it always gives me such a calming feeling with the intro to this tune. Just a fun beat…
Happy Monday, lovely customers. The market is crazy with all of the produce orders, and that makes me beyond excited to see all of the beauty of locally grown produce adorning the market site!
Kingdom Fish was beautiful produce along with their tilapia!
JC Growers have their seasonal garlic bouquets!!!! YAY!! Start purchasing, for now, and for the winter months!!!
Also…we will wait to see if there are berries, this week, from Champaign Berry, after their busy weekend of being open for picking!!
You have until tomorrow, to indulge in the very short season of locally grown produce!!
Have a happy Monday, and remember to keep that song in your heart!
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Market News
It’s time again for “Tomatoes at Terrapin”, the annual fund raiser for the Athens Nurses Clinic. This coming Saturday, in fact, July 27th from 4:30 to 7:30. The Athens Nurses Clinic is a quiet but hugely important group in town, and attendees at this event get to help them continue their cause of providing free medical services to our community by eating deliciously fresh, locally grown tomato sandwiches and drinking refreshing, locally brewed Terrapin beer. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the amazing tomatoes that local farmers donate to the event and help those who need medical services. There will also be live music, provided by the Green Flag Band. In years past they sold tickets at $25 a pop but this year the event is free to all! They’d love your donations, and they’d love to see you even more. Find out all about it at their website: https://tomatoesatterrapin.com — Bring your chairs, blankets, and come safely give back to an organization that has done so much, especially during this last year!
Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you at our market’s home on Tallassee Road!
We are still getting new customers every week (and we love seeing new faces!) so for all of you you can find a detailed run-down of how Thursdays go on our website here: https://athens.locallygrown.net/faq#7
Other Area Farmers Markets
If ALG doesn’t have everything you need, please support our growers at the other markets that are now back up and running, or at their own locations. The Comerian takes online orders for Saturday pickup at the bakery here: https://www.thecomerian.com/online-ordering. The Athens Farmers Market is holding their Saturday market once again in Bishop Park. They’re still operating under pandemic rules, so you’ll want to read up on all the changes on their website, http://athensfarmersmarket.net. The West Broad Farmers Market is back, holding a drive through market just like us (and using my software too, so it’ll be nice and familiar). You can join them at https://wbfm.locallygrown.net. The Saturday market in Comer has also returned. They’re small, but sometimes an early Saturday drive to Comer is just what the soul needs. And of course Collective Harvest is going strong over at https://www.collectiveharvestathens.com.
All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!
We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!
