Foothills Market: The Market is Open!
Foothills Market is open for another week, with a variety of fresh, local vegetables.
I read an article recently that talked about the difference between chronological and biological age. The article gave tips for how to reduce biological age with diet, including some items you can get right here on Foothills Market – dark, leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, colorful vegetables like beets, and eggs.
Shop the market between now and 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. We’ll have your order ready for pickup on Thursday.
Eat something fresh this week, and maybe turn back time on your biological clock!
Russellville Community Market: 5/28/23 closing

Few Growers News:
Periwinkle and Pine: we ares featuring our Just Peachy Wreath, Mini Candle Wreath, and our pretty Periwinkle and Rose Farmhouse Wreath. Each wreath is meticulously handmade by me with attention and care.
Be sure to check back over the next few weeks as I’m excited to begin adding new products for summer!
Rus-T-Acres: Excited to announce we have new cuts of our Black Angus beef available.
East Fork Farm: Luffa
What is a luffa? Think of a “scrubby” used in the shower. Maybe you think of a “sponge”. Luffa is a vegetable and a member of the squash family. When small (about 6") it can be eaten like okra. But at East Fork Farm, we allow them to remain on the vine and grow all summer long until right before the first frost. At that point, they are pulled, dried out, shucked of their outer hard flesh and stripped. This provides long cylindrical shaped sponge to use in many ways. We love our luffa. It has SO many uses. From cleaning your pots, pans and dishes, scrubbing showers, floors, to even a safe chew toy for dogs.
McIntosh Field & Flower: We are so excited to be back in action at the Stones River Market! We farm all of our flowers right here in Murfreesboro and keeping them as local as possible is our goal! We’ve got farm fresh cut flower bunches, gorgeous bright blue edible flowers, and loads of colorful floral confetti in the market this week! The growing season is in full swing after all this great rain and sunshine! Don’t miss out!
Carole’s Herbs (CS3 Farms): we have extra tomato plants we would like to share.
Quarter Spring Farm: is very excited to be processing new birds for the spring. We have several cuts back in stock this week, and should have even more on the market next week. We also have our usual collection of skin softening goat’s milk soaps and lotions. They would make a great gifts!
Pinky’s Micros: Microgreens and sprouts are extremely dense in vital enzymes, minerals and vitamins, and chlorophyll. There aren’t many foods you could eat that are fresher. Put them on your sandwich, top your salads with them, or use them in place of lettuce.
Our new Spring Seasonal Chef’s Blend:
Leeks, Dill, Purple Radish, & Golden Pea Shoots.
Every season we’ll be creating new blends to represent each season. Along with Peas, Rose Radish, Broccoli, Basic salad Mix, and Sunflower.
We are also offering our Freshly Juiced Frozen 2oz Wheatgrass Shots or Freshly Cut 4oz Wheatgrass.
Enjoy a dazzling array of new flavors. Plants are at their absolute peak of flavor intensity at this stage of life. They pack 40x more vital nutrients than their mature counterparts. Come check us out!"

MISC MARKET NOTES
I recently read a short article about Brittney Griner, the US athlete who was detained and imprisoned in Russia last year. Without getting into the politics of the situation the article concluded that Griner has a newfound appreciation for her country following her release.
Sometimes it takes seeing how things are in other countries to appreciate the privilege of living in the US. No, it’s not a perfect country and we certainly aren’t a perfect people, but it’s still the best the world has to offer. My first epiphany about that occurred in 1980. My Mr. and I took our very young daughter to meet her grandparents in Haiti. HAITI. Haiti right after a hurricane went through where we got to see US Marines side by side with the Hatian army and holy smoley, was I ever glad the Marines were ours! That was just on arrival at the airport. Seeing how years of corruption and poverty affected the hope and the hearts of the people made my problems look small.
We would not have it so good were it not for the sacrifice of those who gave their lives in service of this country. Freedom is NOT free.
JBW: Exciting new happenings going on at JBW! This week we cut a hole in a wall at our store front, added more honey supers onto our bees, and also expanded our poultry program. We are expanding at the store to make room for a new cooler to hold pastured pork we will be selling at the end of summer. It is always so rewarding to see results of months of hard work and planning. The rain we received was well needed, the pastures are springing back up nicely. At JBW Farm Fresh, we are regenerative farmers. Our goal is to grow healthy soil, as well as healthy animals. Our cattle are 100% Grass Fed and Grass Finished. We adaptive graze through pasture rotation. We do that with multi-species animals (cows, sheep, goats, hogs, chickens, and ducks). We do not spray our pastures to kill forbes (weeds). We encourage the growth of forbes through proper grazing of our different livestock and poultry. We utilize their manure to renew life into the soil. We don’t want the soil dependent on us. The grass and forbes which grow from the naturally fertilized soil, have more nutrients and vitamins for the livestock. This gives our products the most nutritional benefits!
Mount Moriah Farms: As of Friday this week, we have put our five dry (non-lactating) does in with the buck. Four of them have never had kids so we are excited to see how they do! We added a Great Pyrenees puppy to the herd as well. Her name is Moriah and her sole purpose is to protect the goats. Two of the hardest things raising any kind of animals is #1 Parasites and #2 Predators. It is so hard to not spoil her but she does have to be raised as a working dog and not a pet. Whatever we have on the farm must give back in some way. We have also formulated a new product ( very excited about this one) and will have it up for sale next week! We wish everyone a happy Memorial Day!
Editor’s note: Call this a mini product review: We tried the sourdough bread from K’s Kitchen. THIS ISN’T GROCERY STORE BREAD. It’s thick and dense and delicious. We loved it.
We look forward to seeing you next Friday at one of our pickup locations. Thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Thank you for choosing Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as a way to support your local producers. This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!
PICKUP TIME is Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m.
If you do not get an email ORDER CONFIRMATION after you finish the checkout process, then your order is NOT complete. Head back to the market page, and your order might still be there waiting for you to check out! If you have any trouble or questions at all, we are here to help; simply reply to this email.
Once you place an order, be on the lookout for the order reminder email on Wednesday with further pickup and payment notes. Thanks for your support!
