Miami County Locally Grown: Dish Cloths for the Food Pantry and Market!!
Back in October I spent the most wonderful evening with a ladies’ group from the First United Methodist Church in Troy – so colorful and welcoming, I was delighted they wanted to hear all about the Virtual Market that operated in their First Place Christian Center, as well as all the misadventures of the Ruffians on our family farm :-) As devoted Christian mothers and grandmothers, they certainly seemed able to relate if the amused laughter and encouraging comments were any indication!
That night simply solidified my appreciation for the FUMC community – every group and member with whom I’ve come into contact since our partnership began at the founding of this Market has been nothing but friendly, helpful, and supportive. Their generosity and all of the many ongoing outreach programs are truly inspiring!
One of the ladies, Janet Wright, approached me that night with yet another idea – she had been making dish cloths and wash cloths for a mission in Honduras. Being unable now to send the cloths to Honduras for one political reason or another, Janet wanted to continue making more cloths and offer them to the Virtual Market!
So with a heartfelt THANK YOU to both Janet and the FUMC community, we are now able to offer these beautiful dish/wash cloths on the Market, and the proceeds will be split evenly between the First Place Food Pantry and the Virtual Market :-)
100% cotton and hand-knitted, these cloths are approximately 10 inches square, and come in an incredible array of colors – both solid and variegated! And they can conveniently be tossed in both the washer and dryer!

A major climate summit is happening in Katowice (katovicha) Poland this week: COP24: the 24th conference of parties to the UN framework on climate change. Remember2015? The Paris Agreement where Justin T proclaimed ‘Canada is back!’? Well not quite. We’re way back there, in the standings of states meeting their own voluntary commitments to reduce CO2 emissions. Go here for a YouTube channel set up to share the links from over there. If you are not already on the member list of the ScientistsWarning.org website, then please get on that. That will be the best means of distribution for the full set of programs from COP-24. If you subscribe to the ScientistsWarning.TV channel, then you will get notified with each upload. That is the preferred means really.
I had an exhilarating time at the Soil and Nutrition conference put on by Bionutrient Food Assoc. I’ll be introducing ideas for boosting your own garden produce nutrition as well as here at O’99 by starting a study group. Watch for news at Community Permaculture Lab on facebook.
Yeah, healthy eating!
Ian and Cami.
