NashPhilly: Find our new items in Cold Salads and Dips we have a new salad this week: A much different take on a potato salad but I am sure it will not disappoint you in the least bit. I render most of the bacon fat first, then add onions, garlic, pepperoncinis and red bell peppers. Once they are slightly cooked, deglaze the pan with red wine vinegar. And the final step, toss the potatoes in the pan and finish with some fresh parsley and thyme.

It’s light, slightly sour and spicy, very filling, and fresh. Great for these hot summer days ahead of us. Perfect for a backyard bbq. One order of this will certainly be able to feed a few people very well.

Ingredients: Russet potatoes, bacon, onions, pepperoncinis, red bell peppers, parsley, thyme, extra virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, black pepper and Himalayan sea salt.

It is recommended to heat this up slightly or to serve it at room temperature. If its right out of the refrigerator
the bacon fat may be coagulated, might not be as good is all.

Italian Stuffed Flank Steak available this week. A 1 lbs 10 oz flank steak that is seasoned generously with thyme, oregano, rosemary, Himalayan sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper. That is layered with boursin garlic, shallot and herbed cheese, sweet and tangy sun dried tomatoes, and spinach. I roll this meaty stuffed flank log and roast it for 45 minutes @ 400 degrees. In the picture taken I was able to cut 6 fat pieces from this when it was finished. This will feed two people very happily with two pieces for leftovers another day. When you order this dish it will come as it is from the oven at a doneness of a medium/ medium well It will also not be cut into slices. Ingredients: Flank steak, boursin garlic, shallot and herbed cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, thyme, oregano, rosemary, Himalayan sea salt and black pepper. Reheat Instructions: Preheat Oven to 350 degrees f. Cut from steak log to desired thickness. Place steak slices into pan cover with foil. Cook for 7-10mins or until hot.

Martin's Farmstand:  Weblog Entry

The farmstand will be open this afternoon from 12:30- 5 pm. There is fresh bread baking. Garlic scallions and chives are new products.
Between yesterday and this morning we finished planting all the onions out to the field. Yes it is done by hand- just poke the little plants into the marks on the bed. We had about 125 flats of onions with 550 seeds planted in each flat. It gave 29 beds of onions in the field. The wet weather forcast is perfect for the plants to grow roots.
The asparagus is coming up however it is not ready for harvest yet. With the cool weather forcast I judge that it will be another week before harvest begins. The spinach that we overwintered in the field looks like it will have fairly large yield. It is about a week out yet before harvest. When asparagus harvest starts summer hours will begin at the farmstand. Daniel

MISC MARKET NOTES

We’re keeping the newsletter short and sweet this week as there’s so very much going on! Gardens are starting to produce, bees are still buzzing, and most days the weather is so nice there’s no reason not to have meals outdoors. Did you know it’s popular in Europe to eat outdoors? Especially in Scandinavian countries that have limited winter daylight. Good food, fresh air, and sunlight are a winning combination no matter what country you live in.

Images were selected because they’re practical for regular folks. The setting doesn’t have to be fancy and you can throw a bedsheet over any flat surface to dress it up. And who cares if chairs don’t match?

Thank you for choosing Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as a way to support your local producers. This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!

PICKUP TIME is Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m.
