Yalaha, FL:  oops late opening the market, sorry

We do still have some lettuce and kale but the end of the cool season crops is fast approaching.

The regular ordering window is now through Thursday 8am for Friday-Sunday pickup. (Or check with me [email protected] or text 407-342-8515 if you might want to pick up sooner or for special arrangements, I’m usually flexible.)

I may still be able to take orders after Thursday Morning but can’t guarantee availability of things as I may have already packed them for the Restaurants.
Ordering window is Monday Afternoon (or when I open it) through Thursday Morning and pick up will be Friday-Sunday by appointment until we expand more, Please indicate when you would like to pick up when you place your order.

Remember to tell me when you want to pick up! (and if I don’t reply to confirm within a day, bump my e-mail or text me 407-342-8515. Though I have cleaned up my e-mail so hopefully I won’t Miss Anyone.)

Sign in to order. https://yalaha.locallygrown.net/market

You have to sign in to see the add to cart button. Then set the number and click the add to cart button on the items you want to buy (it is the little picture right next to the quantity box.) Remember you need to check out before your order will be placed.
Remember to let me know when you want to pick up on Sat or maybe even Friday late afternoon or on Sunday. (If I don’t send you an e-mail confirmation of your order and pick up time, please make sure you checked out and completed your order.)

Grumpy Goat:  Eggs, eggs, and more eggs!

We have lots of eggs so please stop in anytime! The small eggs are slowly getting larger. We might have a slight dip in the number of large eggs until they do because we had a small massacre of the old ladies earlier this week. We found at least 8 carcasses and it could have been more. Matt staked out the coops for a few night but we are still unsure who the culprit was. We also lost one of the younger chickens a few nights later to another predator. Let’s just say it wasn’t a great week to be a chicken.

This weekend, Saturday 6-9, is the opening of the Rustbelt Fibershed’s One Year One Outfit program at Wave Pool Art Center in Cincinnati. All 24 outfits are locally made with locally sourced materials (within 250 miles of Cleveland ). Grumpy Goat has worked with the amazing Katie Pfohl on one of the outfits that will be displayed , showcasing our locally grown fiber from the sheep and goats! You can stop into wave pool during their open hours between Saturday May 13th and June 17th.

Have a great week!

Old99Farm Market:  Old 99 Farm week of May 6 2023

Thank you to several readers who commented about the post last week alerting you to Robert Lustig, MD, being interviewed on The Great Simplification/Nate Hagens.

Topic was food and health.

Lustig was asked what was his advice to avoid chronic, ie recurring illnesses. He said it in three words: Eat Real Food.

That’s why I do what I do.

We have lots of fresh greens, some roots and a stem (asparagus)!

Surf to the online store here to place your order. Store pick up Thurs 4 to 6 or by arrangement.

Here’s another essay I commend to people from the blog site of Ugo Bardi, Prof of Chemistry in Italy.
“the future is not a single path toward catastrophe. It is a garden of forking paths. We are bound to follow one of these paths: we don’t know which one yet, but not all of them lead to the Seneca Cliff. In the transition to a renewable energy system, we can adapt, reduce demand, improve efficiency, deploy new technologies, and simply be happy with a more limited supply of energy. It is only the rigidity of our mental models that make us think that there are no alternatives to fossil fuels.”
