ALFN Local Food Club: Market Is Open
Good morning ALFN members!
What a wonderful market we had yesterday. We had quite a bit of produce go through the market. Once again, we have a smorgasbord of items on the market this week.
For those of you who ordered dry goods last week, remember we will make aim to get the delivery window for the middle of June. We will notify all those who ordered when the items have arrived and are ready for pick up. Thanks for your interest! Those dry goods are still available for order over the next few weeks, so take advantage of the opportunity!
NextDoor
Part of living an intentionally local life involves not just ordering from local farmers, but know your local neighbors. It can often be difficult to know how to be present in our neighborhoods and stay in touch with everyone.
I’m always interested in tools that facilitate communication for regional groups, and I thought I would mention NextDoor. This app was brought to my attention by another member of ALFN. The app connects you into a neighborhood online posting board that provides a platform for fellow neighbors to post questions, events and alerts. From cautioning neighbors of a robbery to having folks look for a lost pet, NextDoor is a great way to provide a data stream for neighborhood news. If you have a chance check it out. You may even see other ALFN members in your area!
Take care,
Kyle Holton

Erdmann Farm is back this week and has kale, swiss chard, lettuce, radishes and peonies! Get these while they last!

We have lots of plants still available for your spring plantings! Sweetpea, Rainbow Hill and White City Produce have been steady adding items from 4-packs of plants to singles. No matter the size of your garden or “yarden”, growing food for yourself and our valued pollinators is such an earth win!
Lots of coffee and teas (try them all iced!!) from Nuance, natural skin care from Botanical Harmony Farm
Eggs and bread from Flying S
Double Star Bar Farms also has produce and wonderful bread options!
Thank you for supporting these artisans/producers! We appreciate every word-of-mouth mention, share/like on Facebook, like on Instagram. This tells folks “here is something I love and hope you will too!” Isn’t it wonderful that we either know or have the opportunity to know our producers? That’s community! Please continue to share your ideas, needs and the love for L & L Contractors as we continue to build local, small businesses and our strong community!!

Dothan, Alabama: A Little Early This Week . . .
Dothan’s SUSTAINABLE Market is now Open
This and That
Summer is upon us and I am so excited! School’s out now, wedding season has started and wholesome fresh vegetables ABOUND. Last night I made the Mr. one of our all time favorite dishes – new potatoes in buttery white sauce with English peas. He was a happy, HAPPY man. The next time I see 2C Farms offering their red potatoes I’ll be sure to share the recipe. And if you’re a seat of the pants cook like I am and have a few taters you’ve not used yet, it’s basically boiled potatoes, white sauce, and frozen green peas.
That being said, be sure to read the next section about what is and is not available on the market this week. Product selections are always expanding as does our vendor base.

Just list in comment section which cut.(Except whole hams or ribeye steaks)
Our newest product is our FEED YOUR FAMILY BOX. We’ve designed this box to help cut some of your time standing in line at the grocery store. This box will contain 5 types of vegetables, one for each night of the week, 1 dozen eggs, plus 5 cuts of meat for the week. Serving size is based on a family of four to five. Because there’s a menu for each dinner using what’s in your box, it will also save you time when meal planning. All you will need is a few small items to make the meals complete. You will be able to tell all of your friends that your farmer sells you meat, veggies, eggs and even helps with meal planning for your family. Talk about knowing your farmer! ”
Farm to Table Recipes
Ingredients
3 Tablespoons/45ml olive oil
2 Tablespoons/30ml of freshly squeezed lemon juice (about half a lemon)
1/2 teaspoon finely grated fresh lemon zest
2 pounds medium zucchini (about 5-6)
¼ cup chopped fresh mint
1/4 cup chopped black olives
2 oz/57g Mixed greens like baby spinach, and baby kale
4 oz/113g of goat cheese
¼ cup/ 30g of lightly toasted pine nuts
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, whisk the olive oil, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
2. Trim the ends of the zucchini. With a vegetable peeler, shave lengthwise into long, wide strips about 1/16 inch thick. When you get to the center of the zucchini, turn it over and slice from the other side until you get to the center again.
3. Put the zucchini ribbons in the large bowl, add the chopped mint, olives and greens, toss gently with vinaigrette to lightly coat.
4. Top with crumbled goat cheese and toasted pine nuts. Serve immediately.

CLG: Opening Bell: NEW GROWER, Onions, Squash, Potatoes!
Good afternoon!
For the second week in a row, we are very excited to welcome a NEW Grower to our CLG family. Phyllis and Gary Strack have been growing great vegetables on their family farmland right here in Conway for almost 30 years, as have 2 generations before them! Learn more about Strack Farm using the OUR GROWERS tab at top of the page. I toured their operation on Thursday and was very impressed at all the work that had gone into the long rows of healthy plants, as well as the irrigation system fed from a lake next to the garden. Expect great things from this new Grower!
Carissa added a new recipe under the RECIPES tab at the top of the site. NEW POTATOES IN A CREAMY GARLIC DILL SAUCE. She made it for lunch today using local produce available right now at CLG, and it was awesome!
Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!
Usually our volunteers have the market ready for customers to pick up before 4pm. If you are out and about and want to know if we are ready, just text me to see: 501-339-1039.
Check out over 550 wonderful items listed right now. See you on Friday!
Come early on Friday for the best selection from the EXTRAS table. And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)
The market is now OPEN for orders.
Please check your email about 5 minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thank you for being a valuable part of CLG!
Have a great week!
Steve
