Champaign, OH:  Blowin' In The Wind

The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind…
The answer is blowin’ in the wind…
(Blowin’ In The Wind-Bob Dylan)

I am in a soul searching, Bob Dylan crooning kind of evening state of mind, tonight…

We are early into the month of December, but this is the time of the year that your market manager begins to look back on the year, look back at the paths and directions that I have taken. I put so much into my everyday life, the people that make up my circle, my businesses, this market, you, the market customers, and everyone who I have encountered along the way.

Each year, I begin to form the theme for the year to come. I have decided on my first theme for the coming year, but after listening to this song, tonight, over and over, brings me to my other theme of the coming year. The answer, always, always, is out there, blowing in the wind.

The coming year will usher in many changes in my life. And, instead of worry or doubt or fear, I am looking to the answers that will come to me, in the wind, in a sign, in just throwing all caution to the wind, and letting the chips fall where they may.

This market always is my anchor in a sea of questions. I love this market, deeper than you all can know. I believe in it, I believe in you, and I believe that our mission is still on a winding path. Some weeks, our path seems so straight forward, and solid. Some weeks, we get thrown a curve ball, that sends us asking a million questions. But, even on those weeks, I know that the answer to anything that market gets thrown, is just to keep searching, keep the faith, and know that we are loved, that our market continues it’s quiet chug down the tracks, and that you, the customers and vendors, are the answers that always exist at this little market of love…

So, tonight, I open the market for the week!! Get your shopping lists, your grocery lists, your to do lists ready!! Our market is all about making your life easier, while putting that local flair to it all…

Go ahead…find your answers, and then find your way to us…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

New Field Farm's Online Market:  HONEY

Greetings,

This is to let you know, finally, that we have 23 pounds of honey in one pound jars. The price is $10/pound.

Please order by Wednesday, December 14.

And please order by email. After I have your orders we can arrange a convenient pick up time and payment.

Pick up is here at the farm or I can drop it off at the Union Mill in the usual place (the lobby of Union Mill, the entrance of which is opposite the back door of Nature’s Green Grocer.)

I was surprised to get honey in light of the drought, but the bees managed, and it seems thicker than last year (less water?)and less prone to crystallizing.

Meanwhile, the greenhouses have new covers, there’s a large pile of compost under a tarp in the field, I picked up a couple of yards of potting soil the other day, and the garlic is waiting for spring under a blanket of snow.

May the new year prove fruitful.

Tim

Spa City Local Farm Market Co-op:  New winter pickup hours

Dear Members,

Spa City Co-op will shorten the pickup hours just for the winter months to 3-4:30. Most of us who work the market are older adults, and many do not drive after dark. As it gets dark many days by 4:45, we need to clean up and send our volunteers home a little earlier.

We will probably resume the 5pm end time in April.

Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to seeing you at 3 markets this month, the 2nd, the 16th, and the 30th, the better to serve you this holiday season.

Also, thanks to your generous donations to the Project Hope Food Bank, the co-op will make a holiday donation. Thank you for your generosity to those in need.

Happy Holidays from all of us at Spa City Co-op

The Cumming Harvest - Closed:  This Week at The Cumming Harvest

This Week

My Daily Bread will have all jams on sale this week $1.00 off and they will be topped with Christmas toppers for gift giving. They also have added the gingerbread boys, small loaves, including cranberry orange walnut and the tiramisu and pumpkin rolls to the market. These make great teacher gifts!

Shrimp Email from St Simon’s Shrimp…I’m sorry to inform you that, due to circumstances beyond my control I won’t be able to deliver any shrimp this week and I will have to delay all orders/deliveries for another week or two. We are experiencing an unusual event for this time of year and that being a shortage of shrimp in Georgia waters. Normally, this is when we start to experience a surplus.
Our shrimp boats are currently along the coast of North Carolina trying to keep up with our demand for product here along the coast. I apologize for the short notice but, I was keeping my fingers crossed as these things can change in the blink of an eye.

Carrell Farms & Buffalo Gal will be delivering on December 10th.

Holiday Turkey’s should be delivered on Dec. 17th.

Old99Farm Market:  Old 99 farm, week of Dec 4 2016

As I write this on tuesday evening I’ve been up since 4:30am, having loaded 90 live birds into crates to take to the butcher: turkeys, geese, ducks and chicken. Now they’re all back here, chilled fresh and being frozen over the next day or so. If you want a fresh bird, now is the only time it’s possible. Same price as frozen. The turkeys range from 8 to 18lb, ducks 5 to 9 and geese 7 to 12. The chickens are for making soup and stews, with lots of flavour.

A few frosty nites in the past week, but the greens are super, thanks to the greenhouses. Same long list as last week, as itemized in attached.

Did you hear the latest about Donald Trump? He drinks raw milk! Has for a long time. I’m starting to like the guy already!
