Serves: 12 biscuits
Vegetarian!

Ingredients
1/2 cup Cold butter (cubed)
2 cups Self rising flour
3/4 cup Buttermilk
Melted butter (for brushing)
Topping suggestions include:
Butter pats
Jam
Jelly
Fruit butters
Fruit preserves
Marmalade
Honey
Savory gravy

Step by Step Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Cut the cold butter into the self-rising flour in a large bowl until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the buttermilk just enough to moisten the dough.
  2. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it 3 or 4 times. Pat or roll the dough out to 3/4 inch thickness.
  3. Flour a 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter and cut out biscuits from the dough (reforming and rolling it back out again if necessary).
  4. Place the biscuits onto a greased baking sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Brush the tops of the warm biscuits with the melted butter and serve with desired toppings.
