Champaign, OH: Garlic Scapes-Culinary Delights
Hello, and once again, new growth in this season…
We now welcome Garlic Scape season!! It’s a short lived season, they are AMAZING, and it’s like being given a gift to treasure in your foodie bag of tricks…
A word from Carla and Jenny of JCGrowers!!
C Growers Gourmet Garlic Scapes are available this week on the Virtual Market champaignoh.locallygrown.net.
Thankfully they freeze well because the season comes and goes so quickly. They can be used in everything. Our favorite is the garlic scape green bean style, sautéed in olive oil or butter until they are the color of a cooked green bean salt and pepper to taste. I love the wizards home made pasta with garlic scape pesto way to much. Great on salads, baked potatoes even eggs. Use your imagination and enjoy.

Your market manager is taking a bit of time, today, to go hang out with long time friend from high school. She has a lovely oasis of a backyard, we will be socially distanced, sipping chilled afternoon drinks, and having some much needed chat time.
I hope that you find a bit of an oasis for yourselves, today, wherever that may be.

Several of our Growers have been struggling over the past month getting their crops in due to the unbelievable amount of rain we’ve all had. Some items might be a littler later than others coming in but I’m expecting some wonderfully delicious items coming soon.
Thank you for supporting our On-Line local growers and artisans.

CLG: Opening Bell: Garlic, Potatoes, Carrots, Honey!
Good afternoon!
Delicious and zesty organic garlic is now available from Cedar rock Ridge. This award-winning garlic is some of the best we’ve ever grown. Rich soil, ample rainfall, and a mild winter combined to make an abundant harvest. Keep them in a cool dark place and the bulbs will last for months. Stock up because there won’t be any more until next June. If you make pickles, you’ve got to have fresh garlic. And since we are talking about it, we will have 12 jars of wickles and 12 jars of bread and butter pickles available on the extra table this Friday. :-0 People often ask me, they say: Larry, what are wickles? So I explain to them that wickles (wicked hot pickles) are quite possibly the world’s finest zesty dill pickles. I make them with my own organic dill, garlic and hot peppers. Put them on a sandwich and get ready. They’ll change your life!
If you want to make pickles but can’t find pickling cucumbers yet, try the zucchini from Strack farm. I’ve made a batch of dill pickles using zucchini and they were amazing!
If you haven’t started a garden yet, or want to add a few more tomato plants, there are still a few Brad’s atomic grape tomato plants and Cherokee purple tomato plants available for $1.50 each.
We have been enjoying a wide variety of mushrooms at our market. Unfortunately, we won’t be having any shiitake mushrooms for a couple of months. Use this opportunity to try some of the other varieties available.
We are about a week away from being restocked with chicken and beef. And egg production should increase soon also.
A couple of your items are being added to the market this week. Check out mushroom spinach cheese quiche, lemon chicken, rice tortilla soup, key lime pie from Salscilla Farm.
Our market will continue to meet in the lobby every Friday. Our volunteers will be wearing masks. Your order can be brought to your car in the parking lot by one of our dedicated volunteers. Just call or text me when you are parked, and we will bring your order to your vehicle. 501-339-1039.
Be sure to SEARCH for your favorite items using the search field. Four instance, type in the word “sale” and see what pops up. We have almost 500 items available now!
Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!
And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)
The market is now OPEN for orders. Click here to start shopping:

Please check your email a few minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thanks!
